Don't know the answer, but that's a beaut!
Thanks. It’s got the bead rolled edges in the front of the lid and has the “trunk corners” on the edges of the lid so it’s late 40’s. The sides and back don’t have any of the staining, just the top and face so now I’m trying to bring this back a bit. This is after I degreased and scrubbed it twice.

What do you guys use to remove iron deposits from a wrinkle finish tool box exterior without damaging the paint? The box looks like hell but is very solid, just a bit stained and I want to find something to remove the rust without hurting the paint
I’d give thought to a bit of Evaporust applied by stippling with a paintbrush, daubing into the holes. If you can find gel Evaporust, that might work better, but I’ve not found it.

I received This box in January of 2022 and it just went to a corner and then some stuff got on top of it and after 3 years I was able to open it and see this beauty that I only saw on pictures when I bought it on ebay. Unfortunately it's going back to the corner until I get a bigger place. :)

@Smokeshow69 I recently read on another thread about using an iron remover intended for washing a car or car wheels to remove iron stains like this. YMMV, caveat emptor, yadda yadda yadda...
Yup, I did research after I posted and it looks like a lot of folks are having luck with actual iron remover from automotive detailing companies. Also the wheel cleaner looks like it's a good viable option! I'll hit it up with both and report how it goes.

I’ve been wanting an intermediate box under my Kennedy 620 for a while. I bought a used MC-28, but it was way too big for this space. It blocked my workbench drawer.

Here’s a new Durham heavy duty bearing two shelf rack with Durham boxes that is now used as a base for my Kennedy.

The MC-28 that I cleaned up sits a few feet away. IMG_0888.jpeg

I have this sorry looking Simonsen cantilever Type II Size 2
It is beaten, rusty and painted... but as it is a rare box here i Norway, I was thinkin of givin it a facelift. The plan is to strip to bare metal, remove the rust, and give it a decent paint job.
The clasps have at some point been replaced and I would like to re-install the correct ones. So, does anyone know a source for these? From online search it looks like the same clasp was used on several Simonsen models.

Thanks in advance.

Attached some pictures as it sits today and below.

Right, but he has the full compliment of drawers. Isn’t the 620 the Bighorn series? Often green unless repainted.

Yeah, Now that he added pics of it with the cover open...

Color I'm not sure of - I have one 620 that has been spray bombed silver, so who knows; and the other I think is brown.

Not even sure off the top of my head where that one is. I think my son had it and gave it back? but I recall it being brown. My inventory has "TBD" for the "purpose" col so where did I put that sucker...

I'm still watching for a 516 as I think it would be a handy size. I have a Pilliod wood machinists box about that size I really like and use it as a "travel box"

The earliest document I have showing a model 520 is a 1930 hardware catalog listing, which shows the unit sporting "half loop" drawer pulls. As noted above by @Provincial, the drawer configuration is all wrong for a 520.
@d42jeep's undated flyer shows a model 520 with different handles. - the zip code dates it post 1964, the FONT used dates it to late 1960-mid-1970s.

Is it a seven drawer box, or are the top four actually only two? They look joined in the middle, as if they're full width drawers made to look like half width drawers.

The top two drawers are full width, and just look like they are split. I looked at the chest again, and was in error saying it had the Kennedy script on the lid. It doesn't have any markings anywhere on it.

The drawer slide retainers are spring steel clips like Kennedy.

Well, now we are in the Waterloo / Lumidor / all other brand playground I fear. We have many threads where those names are all listed in parallel.

I’d focus on the hasp being for an external lock, and the five drawer design in my search.

I swear I’ve seen that one here before, but it was a tough night, and the brain is not fully functional just yet.

has a Bassett lock on it. Anyone know what that means
Kennedy did not make their own locks.

Bassett in Derby has some history
