Wow!
You'd really hate it around here, most of the garage and estate sales open on Thursday.

We've got one estate sale company here in SE MI that likes to have sales from 10am -2pm. its hard to fathom working people and shopping.

Last weekend I didn't go to the big swap meet in Portland. Too big and spread out. Sunday morning I attended the monthly local flea market, and found some stuff worth taking home.

Lots of 1/2 x 9/16 wrenches. The Plomb brake wrench seems to have a field modification bend in the large end. The Proto ratchet was $2.00, which makes it a cheap donor, if nothing else. The Barcalo combos were a package, and I only wanted the 13/16, which fills a hole in my set. The WBH DBE also fills a hole.

Not a lot around here, but I did pick up a toolbox and contents for $10 from someone who was downsizing. Largely unremarkable, but I am pleased with the Petersen vise grips and the Channellock wire cutters.


I'll go through the rest, sort the wrenches, and probably make some library donations.

Those strap wrenches work well for very stuck jar lids. I've use the larger ones as a fount wrench on lanterns (got to stay on the rolled lip...)

I've got one, but a spare won't hurt (like my pin drill, anything I can use one-handed tends to go meandering). And I definitely don't have the fancy curved blades already.

His neighbor had his shed open as well. He told me he used to do cleanouts.
I dropped 80 bucks & got:
Werner "erector set ladder", axe & maul


Shovel, rake, mattock, hitch flag pole, landscape shovel, 2 digging bars, Fiskars extendable pruner, 4 grain shovels & about 100 dvds



Then some signs & a beer mirror.


When I got home, I thought I should check out the Porcelain Atlantic on ebay.

Funny thing, my favorite snow shovel for the 1-2 footer is a grain shovel.
They are bowl shaped in the handle end & drop less snow while tossing.
Sort of a scoop on the handle end, & flat against the concrete on the other.
Found used, they are usually worn badly on the scraping end as they are unprotected aluminum.
Three of these are in very good shape as far as that is concerned.

Depends on what you're moving. It can also be a coal scoop--if you need to move coal.

We were back in Walnut Creek this week. One estate sale looked promising and the other not so much. Here is what we found at the first sale.
A really long Proto Professional screwdriver

Crusty Visegrips will be a challenge for the evaporust

Second sale only had some Bonney pliers and a little clamp.

Unfortunately the previous owner was really into engraving his tools. Every little Craftsman wrench was engraved as were the Thorsen sockets.

Wife and I escaped to the Texas Coast for a quick getaway, but you simply can’t not stop at little garage and yard sales along the way…

Been looking for one of these for a while, happened across this one for $15


At the same sale as the water bag, I got a 1/4” Craftsman RHFT and a 1/4 Craftsman breaker in like new condition for $1 a piece.

At another sale, I picked up a pretty clean Rock Island 591 with good jaws and a straight handle. Got that one for $15 as well. I’ll post pics later.

After a fun day of Dr appt and x-rays for the co-pilot we grabbed a quick lunch and headed for an estate sale in Tiburon that looked promising. There were some interesting tools and prices were very low.
The hacksaw was so ugly I just had to have it. It’s a Disston-Porter

An odd made in England adjustable wrench.
Cleaned up the Powr-Kraft tools.
The Stanley screwdriver minus a thick coat of rust.

Just picked this up at a thrift shop for $25. They thought it was a high end toaster oven. No idea how it ended up there, but it cleaned up nice and works, and is going straight to eBay. The commercial nacho chip dispenser was $5 and just kind of cool not to get.

I hit a charity reuse store in Ephrata PA 2 times this week and bought some "measure-y things" to add to the collection. I messed up my architectural scale from HS using it with a craft knife (duh) on the most useful scale/edge for drafting. I love vintage advertising rulers and the subject is spot on for me as my desk is a GF tanker.



We are currently combing the house for GS items as we will be involved in the May 3 Town Wide GS sale here.

I messed up my architectural scale from HS using it with a craft knife (duh) on the most useful scale/edge for drafting. I love vintage advertising rulers and the subject is spot on for me as my desk is a GF tanker.



We are currently combing the house for GS items as we will be involved in the May 3 Town Wide GS sale here.
