Anyone with experience on either of these adapters? Looks like the simplest way to meter a seperate rate for EV Chargers or solar.

My POCO just approved these for use this year.

I know there was a xfer switch type adapter several years back but that wasn't approved for use. Looks pretty close to this hardware.

Doesn't the utility normally provide these? I read they are not cheap.

I did a similar concept. I installed a load side tap inside my meter socket. I had to replace the meter socket as mine was too old to have a provision for a tap. I spent at least $1,000 on the project because I also added an exterior emergency disconnect switch and replaced my load center inside the house. I replaced the load center in the house because it would have been too hard to separate neutrals and grounds in my old load center. With the exterior disconnect switch the main load center is considered a subpanel.

Look like $500 or less.

Wider acceptance than I expected. For the right site conditions, this could cost some jobs/reduce scope.

As I read further, evse loads are limited to 32A cont max (even though a 30 or 60A cb is available).

There is a 125A cb for the house panel within the meter (underside). So this works on 100 and 200A services, but it cuts the main panel down to a max available of 125A :wtf:. Looks like a restriction based on CB frame size, maybe other limiting factors.

I see only total grid metering capability. I was expecting 2 channels, for reduced rated rate (EVSE) or net-metering for solar.

The $500 won't include hiring a sparky to install it
Nor any other downstream hardware required. This could eliminate certain service upgrades that may have otherwise included in evse or solar installs. Situation specific.

Their website is showing me a much shorter list than that. Only 6 utilities
Unless you live where your local utility has approved it, who any how many doesn't matter. It does show it is starting to gain a wide spread acceptance vs. only 1-2 POCOs.

Customer size of the POCO is another factor.

Absolutely.

I could see using something like this at my house where an evse would be outside, near the meter, but with a 320a service, it's a no go.

My point is that their lists aren't even consistent and adoption is very, very small

My PoCo (non-profit irrigation district in Cali’s central valley) would never allow those… nor would Profit Gouge & Execute (PG&E; large private PoCo in Cali).
