Hi,
I bought an old used Solus Pro. It came with a bunch of adapters and what I am told are personality keys (basically small rectangular PC boards). How do these work? Where are they inserted? How do I know what vehicle type am each is for and what each does as I’m told there are multiple keys for each manufacturer even within the same model years. The tool itself is only update to 2009 I believe, but I drive an 08 Tahoe so I figured it could work for my application. One other thing, will this tool program keys/remotes on a Jeep vehicle? My niece bought an 05 Liberty with only 1 key/remote and I read online that both OEM keys are necessary to program any others through the vehicle itself. Looking forward to reading up and all information on this older tool and appreciate all responses. Thank you

The green personality keys slot into a block in the cable of the scan tool that attaches to the 16 pin OBD/diagnostic socket on the car

The software will prompt you which key to use when selecting the make/model

I don't know about security functions on USA models, but I doubt it very much

Thanks for the reply. So when I plug into the OBD2 port with no other adapters and I choose a function it may prompt me on the screen insert a key? Am I understanding that correctly?

I have the same scanner, you connect to the car and then select in the menu the vehicle information which then will give you the key code you need to insert.

Thank you very much. Do you know if it’s possible to use it to program keys/remotes to a 2005 Jeep Liberty? She only has 1 key and the manual says if you don’t have both you need to go to the dealer. Thanks again

I would highly doubt it, I’ve never tried to do anything with programming but don’t think these have programming functions.

One other tip for you. When you are done with your scanner don’t do what most do and wind the cable around the scanner like a kite string. When that is done it places a lot of strain on the cable where it attaches to the connector and will eventually break the small wires at that junction. Then you’ll start getting scanner error codes and connection issues. Try to lay the scanner into the case and then loop the cable loosely into the case. Hope that’s clear enough!

That may be make/model dependent. I have a Modis 13.4 and it has key and fob capability for my '08 Tacoma and my son's '05 Rav4. IIRC, it doesn't support keys for my other son's '07 Nissan.

Snap-On software bundles are numbered by release year and quarter (Q2 or Q4). Ex: 9.4. It will display on the main screen. If you search for "snap-on software bundle 9.4", you may find a chart of the capabilities by make. Tests and capabilities are added in each release, so searching for the version on your tool is critical.

This page may also be of help: https://locksmithcharley.com/transponder/

I only received one key and fob when I bought my Tacoma used at a Toyota stealer - I wonder if that was an attempt to make me have to get high priced copies through them. The locksmith page above was very helpful in giving me the info to find keys and fobs reasonably on eBay, and the Modis has Toyota key/fob capability. Pound sand, Toyota stealership!
