Took down a dead tree yesterday, probably 45 feet tall, these three pieces were in the trunk about 15 feet up totally stuffed with shredded leaves. Something was nesting in there at some point... I think I might make some rustic planters out of them. IMG_1797.jpeg

those would also make good nature made Swedish fire logs as well.

Looked at the two pairs of Planter Box end panels I assembled yesterday and I discovered that I had made an error on the length of the vertical supports that the horizontal boards were attached to.
I was able to shorten those vertical supports without having to disassemble those 4 end panels. All this was done without having to disassemble anything, there were no tool marks left on the panels and my work will be invisible to any casual observer.

If you can’t see it, it didn’t happen

Laser Marked all my worn drill bits so I can see the sizes without effort. Next I'll do my impact sockets.
I marked the ends of our gage pins, that way you can see the size in the box. I also engrave-marked instead of the surface mark that's on the pins' circumference from the manufacturer. That mark is prone to wearing off. Probably should check the pins for size one of these days....

Did some minor repair to my dad’s old Craftsman 12 drawer top box. The bottom drawer has been dragging every time I open it because the body of the tool box was bent up causing the drawer to snag .

So after about ten years of this , I got out my grand dad’s old body work tools and found the appropriate hammer. I lightly tapped and got it back to shape so now I can open the drawer without it dragging. Lubed the drawer slides and moved on.

Problem solved , problem staying solved.

Found this piece was broken. Not sure how that happened, it didn’t seem an obvious place for anything to hit it.

Contemplated buying a plastic welding kit, or one of those staples kits to fix it. On a whim, checked with the local dealer to see if this is available, not really expecting it to b

Soldering iron, and finishing nails work well for me for plastic welding.

I changed the serpentine belt on my 2011 Impala 107,000 miles. I was hesitant at first seeing how it was routed. I saw a diagram of how it was routed, drew it, put it on top of the engine and did it. The only issue was getting it on the lower left tension pulley. It had to go behind it. I took the tire off for a better view. It had to go around back.

I have been experimenting with replacing electrolytic capacitors on my old Ford EEC-IV ECM's. So far, everything ran after I did it. I haven't ruined anything. I mixed up a shot glass full of clear polyurethane to paint the circuit boards where I burned the coating off and tonight I can put them all back, I reckon.

I've had good luck doing the same for Samurai ECM/s I even bridged a couple of traces the cap leak ate.

It was a great day today... 30% humidity, 9mph gentle breeze, 63F, bright sunny day...

I decided to start and tackle the garage door...
Removed the wood mouldings and will start stripping the old 1940's paint down to the wood...
Last year I had the local lumberyard custom cut new wood replacement panels and moulding...
I want to get this finished before this years heat wave hits...

Got the water heater wired up. Now have hot and cold running water inside as well as to the outside spigots of the shed.

IMG_7248.jpegIMG_7249.jpeg

If I could read a tape measure I would be done with the 220v service. Got the 30 amp RV outlet in, came close to getting the 50 amp outlets in but that will have to wait until I pick up more #6 wire tomorrow.

Working on the freebie snapper today.

Thought about putting a new blade on, but I’m already $50 deep into it lmao.

So I pulled the original blade IMG_6045.jpeg

Kinda hard to balance this style blade on this balancer, but I got it close. Vise is level IMG_6048.jpeg

Got most of the nicks out. Most. Not the best and not my proudest sharpen, but any more $$$ and no profit when I sell. New blades are $30ish. If I keep it, I may put a new blade on it.IMG_6051.jpeg

And this is why less profit. It needed the self propel drive cable. Cheapest I found was Amazon for just over $40. That’s the old cable and the reason for the need to replace is evident lol IMG_6053.jpeg

Got it back together. It runs and cuts amazing. Just need fluids and filter, washed and detailed, and she should be ready for market. I’m shooting for $125 or thereabouts. What says y’all’s?

my dad was with one of the big wholesalers that had the rights to Snapper back in the day, they sold the hell out of them, always had some at the house and I thought they were nice mowers.

That's a good price. Considering what they soak ya for a new one, that's a gift.

Knocked out a rotten exterior wall at the new place. Made a thousand trips to the garage to cut studs and sheathing. Almost got it done in one day. Got the wall framed and the sheathing hung. Tomorrow I have to wrap it, cut the window hole in the sheathing, flash it, install the window, install the insulation and hope to reuse most of the siding. I think there is a box of unused siding in the barn, but I'd probably have to fight the buzzards for it lol.

Oh yeah, I'll have to finish the interior too. But I'm not in a hurry for that. I want to make sure it doesn't leak. This is my first exterior wall job.

How much of this door are you saving?

An SCT with the non-woven stripping wheel would have most of that door down to bare wood in a couple of hours, but will make a lot of mess I doing so. Wear your PPE.

Rainy day, so no painting or staining. Inside projects instead.

Spent the morning investigating with tcpdump. Captured and looked through a bunch of traffic. It’s all TLSv1.2, so I can see where the traffic goes, but not what’s in it. Started planning a MITM attack on it.

Made a paper template for a sewing project. Looks like my plan will work. More rain in the forecast, so may be working on this again tomorrow.

Diassembled and reassembled a balky window cellular shade. Didn’t find anything wrong with it, but it seems to be working better than it was before I took it apart.

Doing my best to overhaul my wrench drawer. I've never had a complete set of wrenches before so I've slowly been collecting new Tekton ones and am making custom organizers.

I might need to get creative with the regular size wrench organizers as I'm trying to squeeze 6mm-24mm and 1/4-1" wrenches in there lol.

The door panel framework.

Yeah, I got the HF SCT for just that reason, when it went on markdown... I was disappointed in the results... I'm guessing the old lead based paint acts like a lubricant and the result is a burnishing of the paint more than removing the paint... I did put a lot of pressure and it did break through the paint layer, but very spotty / uneven.... And yes, PPE of course...

It's going to be in the low 80's today and will try again...

You’re using this wheel?

The others, flap disc style, will polish more than cut. This thing cuts. I have old lead based oil paint here (1950s house).

Went out to the Garage to grab a Mt Dew. Saw the neighbor, so talked to him some. Came back inside... Then went back out to the garage to grab the Mt Dew I forgot.

I haven't had one of those in 30 years, maybe that would put some extra zip in my step!

Give me the sunshine give me a Dew
Give me something simple and true
All I need is sunshine and true refreshing Mountain Dew yeah..."🎶
