Nothing major, just a few oddball items this past Saturday....

The Seller and I got into a reverse negotiation...

He said, give me Five Bucks for all of this.
I said, It should be more.
Alright he said, give me three dollars.
We both had a good chuckle...
junk.jpg

A couple of Snappy punches and three Snappy sockets was what I was mainly after......and a Long C dbe wrench
I went back later to buy a Hammer Stapler and other odds and ends stuff from him that I don't need :ROFLMAO:

From one pro estate sale this weekend which was the only sale worth hitting. Sales company was reasonably priced this time.

Carton full of mostly Snap-On stuff, all or nothing. $45 + tax

1/2" drive Snap-On extensions, New Britain 1/2 breaker, Snap-On 3/8 breaker.

Mostly Snap-On 3/8" drive SAE sockets with a few 1/4" drive thrown in as well as a few MAC and Vulcan sockets in the mix

MAC distributor wrenches, Snap-On punches, Snap-On 1/4 flex extension, Snap-On mini hacksaw frame, Mac driver, Snap-On pickle fork.

You ****!

The first few local car boot sales have been a bit lean and so I've lumped all my purchases together.

DSCF0318R.jpg

King **** aluminium alloy 1/2" drive ratchet. I always pass on a load of king **** stuff.
Two Leatherman bit sets. I would never buy these new but for 50p I couldn't resist.
Garrington "Jay" 7/16 x 38W ring spanner. Dated 11/54.
Draper 10mm comb. unused and who doesn't need another 10mm!
No name 1/2" drive torque angle gauge.
Britool 1/2" drive 1 3/16. very nice condition.
Britool 3/8" F to 1/2" M adaptor.
RS branded 4 way utility cupboard key.
Vitrex "Handibit" British made hand countersink/deburrer. Looks unused.
Moore & Wright dividers. I would have passed on these but they are marked with AM for Air Ministry, a crown and 1939.

DSCF0321R.jpg

Another King **** chrome 3/4" SOE. I like this series of spanners.
Clay Sheffield, England 6mm cold chisel. Unused.
RS branded 5mm parallel punch. V nice condition.
Polymer abrasive wheel. Always useful for cleaning old tools.
No name universal joint. Very dirty and with surface rust when I picked it up thinking it was a female to female 1/2" drive. It isn't, it's 9/16" and much better made than any socket UJ. It even has an oil/grease port.
RS branded 5.5mm nut driver which looks unused. These were/are made for RS by Spiralux.
An adjustable reamer. This was filthy when I picked up. Very disappointed to find, on cleaning up, that it was made in India. Can't win them all!
Four small spring clamps. Always useful to have more.

DSCF0322R.jpg

DSCF0323R.jpg

Tiny unbranded drill index. Nos 61-80 (0.030" - 0.0135"). Three missing, the rest look unused.

All of the above cost me less than £10.

Plastic gears in the planetary drive are often the problem. Buy the grease before you open it up, you will need like a pint or less. That way you don't leave it apart waiting for expensive grease.

:+1: on the grease you want the food safe grease as well...

Thank you brothers! This one is no. 8 or 9 for me. Should give me a reason to sort out and update my KitchenAid thread!

I don't like the silver so laughs will be had at my painting skills!

Here is another small auction haul. First purchase was the interchangeable handle chisel set, no idea who made it, still working on the logo. Got the three ratchet screwdrivers real cheap, so didn’t feel bad reimporting Stanley stuff, except the longer two are Yankee by Stanley Sheffield 😁. The “marking” knife was too pretty to let go without a bid, but it may be an erasing (or eraser ) knife, I have another downstairs somewhere, identified by my vintage bookbinder friend, the brand is Richardson’s. And finally, a Preston bullnose rabbet plane, I think another T271.

Finally had a couple of garage sales in the area. I found a Skil "ratch n lock" pliers and a 6" black Crescent wrench at one sale, a sheet metal drill bit stand at another, and a $2 milk house heater at the third. I posted about the Skil pliers in the Vintage pliers thread.

There were two estate sales with tools mentioned today. Unfortunately they were definitely not close to one another. The first one was in Alameda put on by a company known to be a bit expensive. I passed on a $20.00 ‘40s California license plate. Here is what we brought home. IMG_2052.jpeg
The Allen wrench set was pretty complete. IMG_2061.jpegIMG_2062.jpeg
My wife found these Artisan pliers which were my favorites of the day. IMG_2054.jpegIMG_2056.jpeg
The Stanley hand drill was unusual.IMG_2060.jpeg
8” wartime Diamond adjustable badly in need of restoration. IMG_2063.jpeg
Two Cincinnati Tool small clamps.IMG_2067.jpeg
A folding wooden rule from the C.S. Co. in Pinemeadow Conn.IMG_2057.jpeg

The second sale was in Concord around 40 minutes from the first sale. We found some worthwhile tools there.IMG_2069.jpeg
The Powr-Kraft tape measure may have been sourced from Lufkin. IMG_2070.jpegIMG_2071.jpeg
Channellock pliers with the handle pattern.IMG_2076.jpegIMG_2077.jpeg
Diamond tin snips and Motor Spec pliers.IMG_2074.jpeg
Unusual brand on the torpedo level. IMG_2078.jpeg
After I threw away the broken up lid, the Craftsman metric set was surprisingly complete. IMG_2082.jpeg
A Dunlap Phillips screwdriver. IMG_2072.jpeg
A Stanley line level.IMG_2079.jpeg

Chapin Stephens, a revered maker of rules and planes. Forget who took over later.

Quite a few hits on Google, this one is interesting, gives a very wide date range (back to early 1800s), and seems to indicate Stanley bought the business in 1929:

Hit an estate sale today, run by a company that is short on tool knowledge. This works in my favor, most of the time. Anyway, here are todays finds
54473608012_5137d19788_b.jpg
Jorgensen 3" clamp, Wakefield bicycle wrench, and a Klein socket set, missing two sockets the ratchet and extension, with junk inserted.
The set was Wright sourced, so I know what to look for, although it doesn't seem to be very common. Anyway, the set has a cool label under the glued on cardboard from the box it came in

I am a bit of a Klein fan, and tracked it down in the catalog, #120.

Facebook Marketplace pickup yesterday. It was a guy selling his dad's tools who was a bus mechanic starting in the 70s. Not a metric tool in the whole room! Lol.

There was a mix of brands, I grabbed basically all the Snap-on. I had to leave behind quite a few Contour Grip screwdrivers (my favorite handle) as the handles were just too far deteriorated and falling apart in my hands.

All for $90, my favorite find would have to be the ratchets or the full 1/4" drive SAE deep 6-point set.

Our local humane society holds 2 large thrift sales during the year, and today was opening day for the spring version. Opens at 9am in a building at the county fairgrounds just down the street from where we live now, and at 8:30 I was about 100 or so in line. Nothing of interest in the tools and hardware (some years I find something that makes the whole season for me). I did buy a Kenwood stereo receiver for $5, still need to see if it works.
BUT--they had some boxes of free stuff by the door, including boxes of books, and I found the (to me) good stuff there. Some Lindsey reprints of old technology books, a history of straight razors up to 1900, a book about Hoover dam, gas burners for forges etc., and a bunch of metallurgy books and one on mathematics for electricians. And a booklet on "Ayrshire Hone-stones", which at first glance seem to be comparable to Arkansas stones in the USA.

I discovered that a few are duplicates of what I have but the price was right.

Estate sale ($100): Load of sandpaper (nib); 9 - N95 masks; Hardi Board screws; 36 - Dry pigment for making oil paint; Lisle CHJ cylinder hone; Morgan 10A wood vise; Mac PM6A multi-head screwdriver; Epoxy; Gloves; Casters; Delta Double-ended shaper spindle (nib); Freud 10" saw blade (nib); Estwing hammer; Lufkin 20' tape; Perfect handle nail puller w/ wings.

Got into with the estate sale guy's dad, who runs the tools. I guess, and didn't hear that he wanted $50 for the vise when I picked it up, which if I had heard that I would have left it behind. As such, when it came to pay, he goes, "$50 for the vise" and I go "Did you 15, one - five or fifty" and he goes, "Well that's what I told you $50"... Anyway got it for $40, which is still too much, and I figured he jacked up the price on everything else. Oh well, live and let live. Happy to find the paint pigment, my daughters art club should make good use of them... and just picked up a nice bottle of Tequila Ocho when I visited the in-laws last week and today is Friday. All's good.
