Apologies for my absence, good to see you guys have been busy! Our younger son has been full-tilt with baseball (2 teams). And, my sailing season (as an official) started this past weekend (wet/foggy on Saturday, much nicer on Sunday)...

-----

Anyway, all of yous ****....

These were in the "welp, I guess we'll send them to the metal recycler's" pile at the tool library, so total cost $0.

1000001619.jpg

(I am genuinely surprised that the pliers and wrenches and weird triangular vise clamp did not make it into the "we should refurbish this" pile, but everyone is dealing with a lot. I'm just lucky that my way of dealing is "that looks interesting under the gunk, gimme.")

Estate auction
First item was 4.00 box with pvc fittings 3 boxes couples hoses pressure sprayer and other miscellaneous things
Second was a top tool box 39.00 semi full ended up being a par x even had the key
third item was a 4 drawer bolt and miscellaneous organizer 33.00 That is kinda full of mostly junk

Tool box ended up having mostly snap on Mac with a few proto craftsman cornwell action Bonney crescent sk wright stamped USA wrenchs and I think I only had 2 or 3 china socketsIMG_9140.jpegIMG_9141.jpegIMG_9142.jpegIMG_9144.jpegIMG_9145.jpegIMG_9146.jpegIMG_9147.jpegIMG_9148.jpegIMG_9149.jpeg

Went to an advertised tool yard sale. Mostly electrical/plumbing/construction stuff which isn't my lane but managed to grab a few items for $25 total. The mini vise is a cool item I need to do some research on it. It has

"H
PS
Stubs" stamped on it

Finally back on the board for 2025! US made Jet No. 0 arbor press for $10 at an estate sale

IMG_2030.jpeg

Second flea. I found this interesting box of trinkets with an interesting tiny wrench sticking out. Added the Perfect Handle wrench and got all for $5.

Misc tool steel, brass, odds n ends.

Turned out there were a number of interesting small wrenches in there. A cool homemade male hex wrench. Some branded tool steel including one Pratt & Whitney.

Starrett and Whitman & Barnes charts.

Some neat open ends.
- Dodge Brothers
- McKaig Hatch
- Barcalo
-no name flat wrench
-5 pc tiny set of Gordon (England) wrenches. The smallest is 1/8”, oddly the first wrench I spotted. One wrench broken and one modified.
-Canforge Welland Ontario. A new to me oldie I’m not familiar with.
-Williams 3/16 single end
-2 really cool Stahlwille single ends. 6mm and 7mm.

Other finds:

-Bog male 1/2” extension. Lucky find in a box of drill bits as the seller was packing up.
-Apco Mossberg 1/2” by 1/2” square
-Snap-on 3/8”
-Mac brake bleeder wrench
- 2 Large wood handle screwdrivers. Blue-Point Tool Co Chicago! I’ll have to make them a little more readable. For their age, I can’t believe the lightly used condition.

Not really a garage sale, but more horse-trading. I gave away a pallet of electrical enclosures and motor control panels to a local picker and he asked if I'd like something in trade. He said he had an old wooden Kennedy box if I was interested. I ran down to take a look after work, and:

54461166155_9dc0072a04_o.jpg

I don't think it's Kennedy. It's all wood, with sheet metal cladding on the outside.

54461068243_486840928a_o.jpg

Nothing on the hasp/lock.

54459966952_1d729ccfd5_o.jpg

Drawers are sound, if a bit dirty. They still have the intact green felt bottom liners.

No identifying marks anywhere. I'll post it over a the Vintage Toolbox thread.
If you pull the drawers all the way out they generally did some stamping on the inside of them, at least Gerstner did.

Wife and I went to a couple of local garage sales in the cold misty rain this morning before going out for breakfast and heading out to a couple of friends whose greenhouses were opening this weekend. Among the regular last year's decor and miscellaneous clothing I found a Machinery's Handbook 26th edition, so my time wasn't totally wasted. When I got home I discovered I already had a copy of #26 so now I have a house copy and a shop copy.

We did make a spreadsheet listing our books, but once in awhile I find that we have missed some. And sometimes I forget to check, but it does usually prevent me from getting a second or third copy of a book. Doing the listing of our books was justification for buying our first laptop many years ago, so that we could easily go from room to room and add books. (It's up to about 7,000 now.) In this case I didn't mind too much having a duplicate copy. $2 well spent I think.

I generally recall all of the books I have at any given moment, mostly due to decades of working with used books, but from time to time one will slip through, usually due to a dust jacket issue. For instance, I picked up a vintage 1920's copy of the Decameron recently, and as it didn't have the DJ I didn't realized I had one of that edition that did, but as it was a thrift store pickup it wasn't a costly mistake.

That said, I have no idea which editions of the Machinerys Handbook I have, only that I have a few.

All catalogued per the Dewey Decimal System?

I went and hit this estate sale today
54492267021_fcc1eae350_b.jpg
But as I am not a big fan of off-site sales, I decided to wait until the rush would be over. And let me tell you, after just two hours, almost every bit of Snap-on was gone, sold at first day prices and carted out. Also, the Wright gooseneck socket set I was semi-interested in was gone also. But I did manage to pick up some useful items for the collection. A Duro/Indestro ratchet, and a Deco driver with Snap-on flextension and Proto adaptor.

The LEFT-BEHINDS were more numerous and interesting, including a metal trunk from Wolverhampton, England that I didn't want as bad as the price (Pics 1 & 2), a cool but sketchy strange belt buckle I want to learn more about first (Pics 3 & 4), and... um, just no (Pic 5).

I got the same ratchet a few weeks back listed here . Will there be a third soon?

Lugz, that belt buckle is very cool!
I know! With the embossing of the gun and the border!
I hope it turns out to be authentic.
Apparently, it is. There are plenty of them online - $20-$50+ range, many from Australia, although not all of them have the Tiffany's marking. Auto-Ordnance Company is the name of the company Thompson founded, but these were made and sold as novelty items in the 1970's when Auto-Ordnance was part of Numrich Arms Corp and they were making and selling Tommy gun replicas.

I assume that the Deco is 9/32” drive. My first one was and my second one was ground down in a poorly done effort to make it 1/4” drive. The Indestro non reversing ratchet is cool.

What thinks ye about this vise? Another LEFT-BEHIND from yesterday. The black and orange scheme was tugging on my Bonney vibes, but it's not marked, and some of the features were off.

Today’s score, a set of Snap-On Foundation tool boards, one in SAE and one in stupid millimetric.

Paid a bill for the pair, little more than I normally would have but I like em….

IMG_0146.jpegIMG_0147.jpeg
Nice snappy tool panels! If by a “bill” you mean you spend $100, you did well. Thats usually a little bit less than I have paid for a bunch of my Proto tool panels. I usually won’t pay over $80 unless it’s got super useful or uncommon subject matter but yours are both useful and a good subject matter. I say you did well!

I like to stay under $50 on my boards, well under if possible. Snap On stuff is, of course, harder to find and carries far more demand. He had these listed at $60/ea, but they had been up for a while so he took $50/ea. I was happy.

The Colt-built Thompsons from the 1920's are regarded as the most desirable ones, so that buckle is focused on them. The Tiffany logo implies a licensed production. I wonder when the buckles were made?

@Private Lugnutz That table vise is a Staney 74x, and I know you know why it looks Bonney-ish. It may be stamped topside towards the back of the slide. I haven’t delved into dating by color, but they did use that color scheme at some point - probably 1930-40ish. There also might be a patent notice on the oblong pad of the table clamp, after the 1908 US0877695 for the overall design.

Per yesterday’s convo on inventory, my on-phone Bonney list is usually complete and accurate; for other things, whatever set-building obsession is currently driving me is usually reliable. I don’t usually log one-off oddities.
With books, I am more acquisitive of midcentury youth-market hardcover. They have a comfortable feel, and especially with sets, a single in-focus pic of a shelf saves having to list them out.
IMG_5253.jpeg
Still, I don’t always LOOK at my lists when I’m out shopping, so…IMG_5252.jpeg
(I was actually looking for a good copy of Irish Red, LOL.)
EDIT - Hell, that isn’t even true (I have one): I was looking for Outlaw Red!

Ran around a bit this weekend and last and picked up some random stuff

Sorry for the blurry pic, dunno why the phone decided to focus on one wrench...this was $14 from a private estate sale, the 1/4 inch stuff is mostly Penens and Challenger, rat is a Thorsen and both extensions are Snap on plus some other random sockets and stuff.
IMG_7626.jpg

Giller box and a few random Husky USA sockets for $3 at the flea
IMG_7628.jpg

Some polished Husky and S-K wrenches, paid up for these at $20. Trying to get a set of the Husky USA stuff built. Hoping they clean up ok, usually the full polished stuff does but a couple of the S-K combos are pretty corroded.
IMG_7629.jpg

6 bucks for the Starrett feeler stock (which is pretty much complete other than I think it's supposed to go to .03), the Icon D2 knife, Proto extension and sanding block. The sockets were $4 from a different vendor and are mostly S-K and Craftsman with a few other pieces thrown in.

Estate sale ($50): Cleaners; Simpson 260 series 6 multimeter; Sony SLV-D550P VCR - DVD recorder w/remote; Delta hand crank scroll saw; Justrite Streamlined carbide lamp; Snap on 71-M ratchet; Lennox Gold box cutter; Starrett No. 425-3" pocket slide caliper; Amp Meter; Colonial anvil bone scaled 2-blade pocket knife; Shelton tools multi-head screwdriver; Lumber crayon; Rags; Birdbath heater; 3lbs of scrap copper; Ohio 18" jumbo thermometer.

Lot's of fun stuff this week. The Delta hand crank scroll saw is... well, hand crank, which is thumbs up in my books. I'm looking forward to getting the carbide lamp going. I'll post pics of it working. I really like the font on the jumbo thermometer. It looks like something you'd have in a cartoon car. Been looking for a Simpson multimeter so it's nice to find one.

Another tiny haul, on my way back from running the dogs. All the local stuff was cancelled or ****. They were running a bit late as all her help flaked out, she got her BILs to show up and set up. I had to run and wash the one dog before and adoption event, so no time to kill.

Two pairs of voltmeter clamp on connectors, over 3' long, banana plug style, so they only fit my older meter, not my newer Fluke. But I had none prior, so good enough for now.

While running around at our local Flea Markets, I've decided to only buy stuff that I need or that I can use.
No More **** that I have extras of, or stuff that I have plenty of!

So at the Flea Market, I was good...well for a minute or two anyway :ROFLMAO:
Bought a couple of Hammer Handles......can always use those....
One pound of Wood Putty.....always need wood putty!
Bought a bundle of paint brushes from a cute Hippie Girl... :ROFLMAO: ..I always need paint brushes....

Then things went south on me....
Three Jacobs USA chucks in really nice condition.....I have no drills to put them on, but What-the-Heck?
Very cool old Bolt cutters.....I have two already
Another folding wood rule....dang, what's wrong with me? I just couldn't pass it up
Chain breaker or Link poker-outer....I already have one somewhere
And a Stanley 765.....I really need one with a base

Anyway, it was a fun day which is what it's all about
