Got 2 of my 3 "air conditioning units" (fans) installed in the shop.
18" Air Kings from Amazon.
3 speed and I have them plugged into an outlet that is on a switch.
Used uni-strut to mount them and cut off all the excess cord and put a new metal plug on it.

The third "unit" is a 6' ceiling fan but I'm not going to fool with that until I rent a scissor lift again when I do the exterior lights and fans.

Measured and set the stop blocks for another few Planter Boxes, just as I got everything set up and clamped down I had to leave to “stamp out” another matter.
Next time I am in the shop I will cut and fasten together some more end panels for a few more boxes.
I am using the same Cedar Fence Pickets that I hauled home last week.
FREE LUMBER is worth a little effort to make it look pretty.

Talk to me about these fans.

Are you happy with them? Move enough air to feel them or just help circulate?
Are they loud?

I’m thinking about picking one up.
They look good in your shop, did a nice clean install.

Thanks.

I got a little carried away with lights on the ceiling - I have 14 total. So between the lights, the radiant tube heater, and garage door tracks I didn't have enough room on the ceiling for all the ceiling fans I wanted. I can only fit one 6' fan in where I wanted.

Because I couldn't put all the ceiling fans I wanted in I came up with the idea of wall mounted ones. Fortunately I came up with the idea while we were still running the conduit for electrical so we put outlets on switches up there just for these.

I had ran 2X8 blocking around the perimeter of the building just below the ceiling to mount the air plumbing to. Because that blocking was already there, I ran uni-strut down from the air line blocking to the first purlin.

As far as the fans; They are 18" Air Kings which were $120 from Amazon. They have 20" and 30" fans but I didn't like the way the mounted.

I just got them in today and I have only ran them on low but so far I am impressed. They make some noise but they aren't obnoxious. Me and the guy that helped me were able to hold a normal conversation with both running.

They put out more of a breeze than I would have expected given their size.

Overall, I am very happy with them.

One thing to know though, there is no oscillate capability. You point them where you want the wind and that's it. I am fine with that, some might not be.

Thanks for the info. Good idea with the uni-strut. I would most likely need to use exterior blocking since my shop walls are all closed up.

Ceiling fans are out of the question for me and these look nice for a decent price. As with anything, you can spend a lot of moneys to move air around.

Been following your shop build thread almost from the beginning, I have it bookmarked for future use. Tons of good information and lots of details. Fun to read.

Just a bit of assembly.

Missing some hardware so this is where I have to stop.

I'd expedite assembly and just buy the hardware locally but they just shipped out a complete hardware set so I'll just wait for that to arrive.

After that arrives, I can install the supports and leveling feet then move forward with leveling and squaring up the frame.

At the moment every bolt is "hand tight".

Those look really nice. I've been thinking about doing something similar. Right now I just have a few floor standing fans I move around to where ever I'm currently working.

I have similar fans as those being mentioned. When you ceiling mount them, it allows for a lot of configurations and reasons why they can be moved around in position. I took down some archaic ceiling fans the previous owner had and added outlets to the switched power.

They work out great, I run them on high, not crazy loud. I have tinnitus in my right ear and I like white noise when working.

I can have them aimed at the floor or toward the north or south wall and any position in between due to the bracket.

I have one more fan to mount and it will be wall mounted like the OP did. I think I will shorten the cords after seeing what he did. That's a great idea!

Building a dog kennel that looks (I hope) a bit better than the wire crate we’re using now

Using this for an idea.

Sure couldn’t use the “how to” video and the printed info to build it.
Not enough specifics and too many mistakes for me.

In the end, I just made a few working sketches to get my overall dimensions and to help me with the changes I want to make.

Here‘s a work in progress mock up to get final lengths for the rails and stiles on the end panels

Our latest rescue loves his crate, maybe feels safe? So the crate may stay.
The last rescue we had was only kenneled for a short time until we could trust him.
My kids all like their crate. I say crate and everyone's at the door, waiting to go. Of course their crate is in the shop, under the CNC laser so it's cool.

I've considered one of these, but the one dog likes to chew on anything made of wood if he gets too bored.

A friend and I finished installing 19 sheets of 1/2" plywood and eight double-strip LED lights on the ceiling of our new garage. My cheapo drywall lift and roll-around scaffold made installation easier, especially with the 11-foot ceiling, but it was still a fair amount of work.

The black stripes you can see through the plastic are just strips of tape that were temporarily holding the fiberglass batts in place.

All of the plywood is spaced to match the joists and screwed into the joists, and extra backing blocks were installed to join the sheets between the joists. It should stay flat, and it's not going anywhere.

Well other than my garage being storage for the 'too many' tools I buy I'm finally getting around to turning pens again after about 10 years of not turning. I found a supplier that is making stainless steel pen kits in the USA and the quality/fit is great. 2 are acrylic resin the last one is alligator jaw filled with resin.
I love turning pens too. Don’t suppose you’d share the details on who’s making pen kits in the USA?

kaymccampbell beat me to it. https://www.mckenziepenworks.com/collections/pen-kits Only real problem is them keeping 'em in stock. Allegedly a large supply is coming in soon. Also they have new packaging which is going to be great for sales/marketing display.
And there is this vendor. I have not used them yet but it looks like another slippery slope: https://bullseyeturningsupply.com/collections/pen-components

Neighbors girl is headed to vet school out of state. Kansas State @ Manhattan Kansas. She has a jeep, but no winch. Scored a $5.00 come a-long at a garage sale, but it didn't have the doubler sheaved pulley. Tried to buy one, but all were low rated. Example: at tractor supply for $65.00 you get a rating of 800#. So using scrap I knocked one out that should easily exceed the come along rating of 4000#. .
Without the doubler sheaved pulley your power is only half the rating. Sheaved pulley ups it to 36 # to 1 # force.

My 72 year old dad came over yesterday and we turned my disassembled tiller transmission (broken chain) back into a functional tiller.

IMG-8063.jpg

I put the tine shroud on today. Changed oil, plug, and air filter. Should be back in business.

Starting to migrate tools into my new box.

Tell your still younger than I Dad that I am willing to allow him to use my tools to tighten your Roller Chain to enable easier repair and adjustment of Drive Chains.
