No idea about quality on either of them. Solely looking at configuration, I’d buy the Hyper Tough, I like the 2 drawers, closed top compartment much better than the single drawer, open top configuration on the U.S. General.

But that is obviously just me.

Since these brands are not available to me, I have no idea if the build quality of the U.S. General might be a notch above the Hyper Tough - and if that would be enough to sway me around the other way. So take my comment with a grain of salt. ;)

Kind regards,
Olli

agreed. those drawers are shallow too so they don't hold a lot. I'd spring for a 4-drawer or larger one. may check for a used one to save cost.

Memorial day is coming, watch for coupons.
Yes! I’ve seen HF 4 draw tool carts selling in store for $180.00 on a holiday with a coupon. They go fast, if you want one be there when the doors open. I have 2 HF stores where I live, when the tool carts go on sale both stores are sold out by noon.

If you’re not using it every day buy the hypertough up right tool chest for $120.00. It’s the same foot print as the cart, the only difference is it higher with more storage. My friend bought his 12 year old son the HT tool chest on wheels with his first set of tools. It’s been holding up for three years. I wouldn’t buy it if you’re using it everyday.

I would have no qualms buying the box from harbor freight. Except for their super cheap line, Yukon is it? All of their other toolboxes US general and icon are truly legit!

I have both of the carts from Harbor Freight above and they are both solid choices. I would follow the crowd and go with the more expensive 4 drawer cart unless budget is a concern. Keep in mind that the 4 drawer has slots on the side of the top compartment for screwdrivers. That could eliminate the need for a screw driver drawer.

I bought the US General earlier this year when it was on sale for, I think $88. It works well as a stand for the inexpensive drill press that popped up in the Hot Deals section here. I keep bits, etc in the drawer, and a few battery tools in the tray, which I reinforced with a scrap of plywood I had laying around, and some toolbox liner. A couple of battery tools and their bags live on the bottom shelf.

For use as a traditional working mobile tool cart, it’s too small, though. Up your budget and hold out for the five drawer cart, or maybe even the four drawer cart. They go on sale frequently.

For my use as a compact and relatively sturdy mobile tool stand, in a small, space constrained Arizona garage, the smaller cart works well, though.

I'd say it depends on what you're using it for, but having several USG products (and bought others I've outgrown... poe6hb.gif) I'd lean that way for how "known-quantity" they are.

I own the exact USG cart pictured. I use it as a project cart vs. long term storage - I pack parts and bigger tools at the bottom and the tools I'm using at the top:

(I lined the top with a piece of leather to keep stuff from banging around)

I think WalMart has done pretty well with HyperTough in a lot of ways, but I'd want to eyeball and feel that thing before I spent money.

If you're looking for storage, the USG 4 or 5 drawer is pretty great. Over the years I've had both and been happy. The Full Bank was pretty fantastic too.

I haven’t owned the Hyper Tough personally but I do have the US General and it’s great. Coworker has the Hyper Tough and it’s about 2 years old and the drawers are sagging pretty good. I’ve always had good luck with US General boxes and carts.

Ended up going a different direction, found this at Lowe’s on sale for $139. I can put another small craftsman toolbox I have on top. IMG_8791.jpegI think that is a good choice for your situation. Well done!

I found a roached kitchen table with a mangled butcher block top for free, and it had enough undamaged wood to cut a top for my roller. Makes a good work surface, and a place to mount a vice

What is your use case? Neither one of those have much storage space; therefore, assuming not main box.

I think you will be really happy with this extra box for the overflow. I find drawers to be superior to the open shelf of a cart, that collects items and dirt. Enjoy.
