Bevel gear

Have an old Red Lion cement mixer. The drive bevel gear is worn out. I don't seem to be able to find a replacement one any where.

What sort of cement would a person mix instead of concrete?

I have in the past repaired worn steel parts by welding them up and grinding them to shape. It was cost effective because getting the new parts would require the machine manufacturer to make the new part, and the process line was down. Once we got a replacement OEM part I started rebuilding the old parts and keeping them on the shelf.
This continued until that process line was replaced.

Shortly afterwards I was laid off and then the plant was closed.

-Have you tried to identify the gear itself by the numbers/dimensions or just by searching for "Red Lion cement mixer"? There's plenty of sources for bevel gears but you have to know the specs to order one. Where have you searched? Shaft diameter may not fit so do you have machinery to bore the new gear to size? Better info gets better replies.

I have tried different site that sell bevel gears. They all have spec pages for the different gears. Mine is a nine tooth gear and all the others only go to 11 teeth. Boring the gear to the right shaft size isn't a problem.

If I can't find a replacement gear I will weld and grind.

-Have you considered replacing both the drive gears as a set? It might be a simpler task than welding and grinding the profile for tooth interface.

Boring the gear to the right shaft size isn't a problem.

Set screw. Ring gear on the drum is non replaceable.

-You could just change the drive ratio, there should be a gear available but if welding/grinding appeals then have at it.
