Small pipe plug?

So I am making this it is a fully functional jeweler vise. It is currently being made out of a 3-D printed material which is 60% iron 40% plastic and all the heavy friction parts are going to be steel like the screws and bolts and nuts. I am looking for this very small plug to secure the end cap. The dimensions are roughly this.

I’m having a hard time finding these plugs that I have gotten it in the estate sale years ago they fit perfectly. I could adjust the dimensions, but I like how small these are.

If anyone knows where I can find these, please let me know

A pipe plug would be tapered. I can't tell if yours is, or not. If it is, it's probably 1/16 npt pipe, which is not terribly common. It's a standard size, and fittings are available from trade and industrial suppliers, but not many hardware stores would have them. 1/16 npt fittings should be just over 0.25" at the small end, across the thread crests.

But I'd suspect that's a set screw, which is probably a better choice than pipe plug, unless you have some reason that requires pipe threads.

if you really want to find what you have, you need to give better dimensions. thread pitch, diameter at both ends as a start.

I dont think that is a pipe plug. looks like a set screw to me. Maybe 12 x 24 ? What is the diameter ? Switch your calipers to inch rather than metric.

7/64 means nothing to me, but I'd try 1/4-20 NC, then work down through 10-32 to 6-32.

Your hardware store should have a screw plate where you can test the one you have to determine its size.

Or a gunsmith. Our local True Value carries #4-40 screws, but not sure about set screws.

Could be 3-48 or 4-40. When dealing with these small sizes more accurate measurements are needed. I have a tool that uses a set screw with a .050 hex. Thing is tiny!

What are the details of the hole you are threading into?

Is that already threaded, or does the screws cut its own?

The material allows it to be cut once I insert the screw I could tap it, but it’s not required

-There isn't a commercially available pipe plug that small (NPT or NPS) so what you have is a set screw. There are many types and sizes that depend upon what you're using it for (cup, dog, grub, knurl grip, cone, etc.). A more detailed explanation of the purpose/intent will get better suggestions. Include the reasons for your preferences.

Yeah, I’ll be selling these since I’ve put about six months of design work into it, so I won’t be sharing the file. I actually already have a waitlist going. I’m also planning to auction off the very first one on eBay for charity—that should help me figure out the value too. I’ll post the link here once it’s ready, probably in about a week.





As for the filament, I’m totally fine sharing that. It’s nothing proprietary—it’s from a company called Proto-pasta, and it’s their Magnetic Iron filament (60% iron, 40% PLA).
