New today, a Dewalt DCPR320B 20V pruner.
A little worrisome when the wife says "that thing will cut your **** off!"
Out of all my tools that potentially could be used for such a thing, what is it about this one?

As long as your wife isn't named Lorena, you should be safe!

Well, that's probably what Mr. Bobbitt used to be able to think...

Icon? Pfft. Astro? Nah. Snap On? Nope.

Introducing FOGFAR:

thumbnail_image1.jpg

Feast your eyes upon the finest Chinesium this side of Guangzhou.

Does the surface of your chrome sockets resemble a golf ball? Doubt it. FOGFAR's does.

Do your sockets still have machining marks on them and mysterious chunks missing from them when brand new? FOGFAR does.

Are your sockets so ****** they don't even have a brand name on them? FOGFAR is all that and more. Well, less:

thumbnail_image0.jpg

I don't have my metrology stuff handy so I can't tell you if it's even remotely close to 32mm. And frankly, I don't care. This was delivered to my door for <$3.50. I need to make something and figured out starting with a junk 32mm socket would save me about 75% on materials and an hour or two of my time. So FOGFAR it is!

Did it come with a FOGFAR sticker?

I bought and later returned the DeWalt version and bought a Hotloop branded one on Amazon that takes DeWalt batteries. It seems to work just as well as the DeWalt and is more compact. Plus it came with an extra blade and was only $40. In any case, the DeWalt worked fine, it just was a bit bulky.

I've been meaning to get a shell mill forever. I debated for a while about brands/inserts etc but Haas is having a sale right now and I had a 25% coupon code on top of it so I couldn't arge with the value proposition.

Did you make that? I want one.

I'm not aware of a Snap On fixed bit driver, only the ratcheting variety.
I got this back in 1988. Non-ratcheting. Came with torx bits.

When I went in the Navy I left all my tools with my Dad.

He passed away, we bought the estate, retired and moved back home.

Been going through “his” tools lately, mostly looking for my old Snap-On stuff.

I haven’t seen or touched this bit driver in 37 years!

Sadly, it did not. If it did I'm sure it would have been misprinted, misspelled, or wrinkled. And that would have been perfect.

It is however, close enough to actually work as a socket, even though it looks like it was broached with a roughly hexagonal rock:

Unfortunately the phone rang and I had to go help a family member with a vehicular issue, so FOGFAR shall live another day.

I know this ain’t a tool but it kinda is.

First off I can’t stand behr paint. But in this case there wasn’t a choice. And just for a double but **** I have to admit this resealable poring spout that doubles as the tool flipping kicks ***! I’ll be keeping that sumbitch for future projects 👊

Fixed shaft bit holder. It's so simple, I don't know why Snap On doesn't still make them.

I'm not really interested in ratcheting screwdrivers. I've had both the full size and stubby versions. I never used them and when I tried, they just annoyed me.

I bought ridiculously expensive digital calipers in the early ‘80’s. They were unusable and soured me on these electronic monstrosities until earlier this week, when I grew tired of paying for erroneous inch to mm conversions. $23 for these with three batteries. I measured my 1,2,3 and 4 inch standards, with 0.001” accuracy. I’m impressed and really benefit from the metric readout. I’m surprised.

Attention fellow tool fiends: I made this purchase today and it's not shipped yet, but I thought I should tell you our Japanese friends at Koken have 25% off sale for Memorial Day, at the Koken USA website. Also, note the shipping and tax:

I have one, I use it quite a bit when I don't want to use the ratcheting one. Has better feel than the ratcheting one.

Some guys in sandals in a dimly lit shop in Pakistan are disgusted at the lack of craftsmanship.

I didn’t feel like digging everything from the past month out so I grabbed a few things. None of it’s in brand new condition, but it was cheap. Let my dad borrow the missing flip socket for some equipment work. The snap on lady foot is a little bent, but for $3 it’ll be fine. Best deal would have to be the snap on tmxk100 extension for $2. The ratchets all seem to be pretty dry so I’ll be tearing them apart to clean and oil. IMG_1067.jpeg

That seems like a paradox out of ancient Greek philosophy:

Eubulides: "A pry bar straight and true is obviously a tool. Now the bend of several degrees will not turn straight pry bar into not a tool. And yet it is obvious that a continuation of that process must eventually result in uselessness."

Archimedes: "Will you get back to work? Help me with this stone."

When I have too much going on, I soak recalcitrant ratchets in Marvel Mystery Oil for 30 minutes to overnight. So far, it has always served to loosen up and lubricate those ratchets. I have taken some ratchets apart to clean, but the MMO works well enough that mostly, I no longer bother.

Anyhow. I’m trying to wipe out something this weekend and a portaband was the solution to an issue. Problem was all my portabands are a 4hr round trip away so screw that. I always wanted a toy one but want and need dictated ever buying one. So last night I hoped depot was having a sale but I only found full price available. At that point paying more than I wanted to for the convenience of wasting a 1/3 of a day driving headed off to depot.

Whatta ya fn know!, I caught the last one they had in stock for half off. $110 baby-SCORE!

Picked up the new Klein Flickblade with the built in scraper. Pretty neat, but a little heavy and no belt clip. For my purposes in a drawer, that's not an issue. The blade storage area is neat, it has a little magnet for the blade to keep it from falling out when you open up this section.

Also wanted to check out the Rapidaptor, so I grabbed a normal and a ringmagnet version. As you can see both were "carded" from Amazon, but only one has "SB" in the part number.20250524_095556.jpg20250524_095308~2.jpg

I just enjoy pulling them apart and cleaning them. I did find that the flf936 is going to need a rebuild soon. Found a couple shards in it and the engagement doesn’t look to be the best.

Double acquisition:

I decided to install a scissor-type car lift in our new garage instead of a two-post lift, so I ordered a full-rise 3500 kg capacity scissor lift, which just arrived, and I used my newly acquired forklift adapter for my front-end loader to remove the scissor lift crates from the delivery truck. Here you see the largest and heaviest of the crates (about 1700 lbs) sitting on the forklift adapter.

I plan to unpack the lift in the next day or two and post a few photos.
