My first garage...

So we are FINALLY working to close a house with sellers who aren't going to turn in to idiots. I'm hoping to close mid-November, so weather won't be on my side to do an epoxy floor coating, but I will def. be able to finish the drywall and such.

The plans....

Dark gray lower wall (the block), with a nice red stripe, and a white upper wall with white ceiling. I am going to change up the shelving for a work bench with cabinets. My goal is to find someone remodeling their kitchen so I can snag the cabinets from them.

Below the work bench will be my larger storage for things like my shop vac, pressure washer, floor jacks, jack stands... The cabinets will hold all my car cleaning goodies.

It's already wired for 220, so I should be able to add a nice compressor or welder in the future.

Gives me plenty of space for my tool boxes...

I also need to give it some much needed lighting improvements. Probably going to mount some lights on the back wall at an angle so I can see in to engine bays with ease as well... Oh, and the center pole - that will be bright red.




As for my obsession with red?

Congrats... I went from no garage to my first just over 6 years ago when I purchased my first home. As a kid who grew up with a cluttered garage it's awesome having my own clean space that is car-stuff only. Enjoy!

Not likely - it's a basement garage.... Theres two bedrooms above it...


Downside? When we have kids I'll have to keep quiet after certain hours possibly.

Upside as soon as you have kids you can put them to work. Really buying a house is a big deal so I'm happy for you. How is the rest of the house any problems so far?

Check your local schools. A lot of schools passed bond issues and are remodeling. I picked up art cabinets and steel cafteria cabinets with s.s. tops for hauling them off.

Looks like a great starting point. Not a lot of stuff that has to get removed. Are there only 2 outlets on that back wall? Is that the electric panel? What is the story with the random hanging wire? I can already see how good this place will look with some paint and lighting.

Previous owner ran a cable TV line through the garage like that from the back of the house to the front of the house. I'll be replacing it with the PROPER way to run cable line....


Theres 4 outlets on the back side, and 4 on the left side of the garage. I cannot remember how many on the right side of the garage. Theres also 2 between the garage doors in the front by a light switch.

Theres 4 outlets in the cieling too.


I'll be adding more outlets, don't worry about that!





One thing I am going to get rid of but will take advantage of the materials with is that back shelving. Today I already found a 7 foot tall cabinet and matching upper cabinet I am going to use for my beginning storage.

It's already in the works and we haven't even closed.

Repo. They actually handed the keys back to the bank. So the people weren't evicted nor did they trash the house before they left.

Very nice. Should be a quick closing then as long as the bank doesn't eff around.

Went through inspection. I love my inspector - HELLUVA nice guy. Anyways, we were checking everything out and he took the cover off the service panel to check everything and we found that they split the electrical for the 220 in the garage with the AC unit.... So I will be removing the 220 service from the garage and running a new line to the AC unit which thankfully is on the other side of the wall from the service panel...


Other than that, the inspection went great!


Waiting for some final paper work and I'll be pushing them to close!

Look great. The post in the middle is unfortunate but not terrible. Since it obviously has to stay, I'd be inclined to make it useful and frame it in (keeping it as compact as possible) and add a couple electrical outlets and an air hose with connector. Would be real handy to have when working on the sides of vehicles to plug in lights and tools without extension cords. And even if you don't have a compressor or even plan on getting one, now's the time to add the airline anyway in case you change your mind or it would at least appeal to future buyers down the road.
