Any window or portable AC units designed for recharging?

Title says it all.. yesterday I lost the 4th ac unit in 6 years due to refridge leakage. This is so stupid.. pay $500 for something and it lasts 2-3 years and is sealed so can't be serviced (easily).

Anyway Im pretty sure I know the answer but wanted to ask anyway to be safe.. any if yall come across ac units designed to be recharged? No that won't help a leaky system but the assumption is that if one was made to be recharged then perhaps the whole system is tougher or more leak resistant.

Have you considered an add-on piercing valve?

Generally speaking, if you can't fix the leak, you shouldn't be dumping more refrigerant into it anyway, right?

They are designed to not be serviced. You could add a Piercing valve, however by the time you get that done, get the gauges and scale, buy the Refrigerant, your probably over what its costs to buy a used one on FB, if not a new one

I wonder why you are losing so many units to leakage. I have 6-7 around here that are anywhere from 1 to 20 years old and none have ever leaked. They get moved around a bunch and loaned out, handled pretty rough. Seems odd to keep having them leak. Are they all the same brand?

Good Point, i have had a unit fall out the window and hit the ground and never leaked.

Im on the same 2 units for 8 years now

Me too. I have 2 that are over 20 years old, and get pulled every winter and put into storage. Then I have another one in the garage that sits there all year round and it's probably 30 years old, covered in moss, bird **** and wasp nests. They all work just fine.
