I use a specific white noise machine at night due to the frequency which essentially cancels out my right ear tinnitus for the most part.
I leave the radio on (National Pinko Radio, of course), turned down to nearly cain't hear, which seems to relieve the tinnitus. Absolute silence is where it gets really irritating.

My hearing aids sing a barely audible ululating song that turns off my tinnitus. The effect is good for a few days and then it wears off if I neglect to wear them.

Emptied my catch-all shelf that I put in the garage when I bought the house. It became a mound of tools, consumables and hardware. Now that my "real" shelves are moving in a little at a time, I sorted that mess into the places the stuff really belongs.

Then I dressed up my lan wiring for the CCTV cameras. It was just in a wad on top of that same shelf. Now the switch is mounted under the subpanel and the cables are all zip-tied and neat.
Clean network cabling is always nice. At a previous employer, one of our remote sites had a complete shitshow of cabling in the switchroom - and it was a small facility. I made the 2-hour trek out there early one morning with a box of assorted patch cables to clean it up before they opened. Got a call later from the site general manager complimenting me on it - he said he was blown away how I made sense out of spaghetti. It was a bit self-serving as my techs and I would have to walk them through most troubleshooting by phone.

I've got one of these for the PW, it does a nice job on the condenser coils without damaging the fins, and it shoots detergent if necessary.

A friend hammered all his fins flat by using the turbo tip from watching a YouTube video. I lent him my fin comb to unfuck 3 minisplits worth of ruined fins. I absolutely refused to help. I had warned him to use the hose or the special head.
Very cool, thank you. Your friend should listen more - you did the right thing.

Picked up my new special seals. Good thing, too. Pulled the rotors back off and found the new seals I put on two days ago were shredded.

Got everything mounted up again, and all fasteners torqued to spec.

Needs alignment. Called to make an appointment, can’t get in until mid July. So tomorrow I’ll be doing an old school garage alignment.

Cleaned up and put away tools and stuff.

Upgraded my work stool with some new wheels.

IMG_7213.jpeg

These have short 3/8”-16 shafts, not long enough to through bolt the frame. Welded some T nuts to the bottom of the frame instead. Going to take some getting used to, these roll really easy compared to the crappy stock wheels.

I did the same with the cheap harbor freight rolling stool. Leaned just a little bit too far forward while working on the mower, hung like wile e coyote for a second and then rolled on my back. Then I did the same damn thing two days later! Slow learner.

I did the seat just to see if I could. Tuck n Roll is a bit fancy for the garage.

I'll see your Tuck-n-Roll and raise you a Harley-Davidson knock-off buddy seat. It didn't sell at a parking lot sale at our dealership so I took it home instead of sending it to the dumpster. That was about 1977. My wife loves this thing. I have plans in my head to add wheelie bars as it can tip backwards pretty easily - just never rises to the top of the to-do list. The base is Craftsman like the pic on right. Changed the wheels and carpeted the tray as well.

Started the day with a phone call from the electrician, he apologized for the POCO jumping the gun. He warned he was arriving with a POCO guy shortly. Kenneled the dog so they could walk the yard and point and decide.

Fired up the 3d printers and while they were printing took apart the reluctant door handle. Filed, marked, cleaned-decided the springs weren't clean enough disassembled both and parts went thru the evaporust in the ultrasonic. Reassembled, more filing and finally both work fairly crispy. Now I need to locate a steel 4m flathead rivet. Locks to be rekeyed as I'm not sure they match, key number stampings are different.
Started modifying a stainless canteen which will be incorporated into the baja project. Mcmaster provided 2 90 degree fittings overnight and getting ready to install. Trip to town for rubber washers and stainless fasteners. Back and working through the assembly. Will confer with restoration guy and insure we agree on assembly for drip proof assembly.

Opened packages from amzn, checked fastener lengths and fitments, all good.

Staged powder coated parts to go to restoration shop.

Called tire guru and hes not done assembling tires for front of baja, more waiting, but he will get it perfect, so his decision is final.

My first car was a 70 beetle, I converted that into a Baja bug, lot of fun!

Yesterday we loaded all the cardboard I cut up into my wife's Bronco Sport to take to the dump for recycling.
I marvel at just how much cardboard we turn in each week. I am starting my own No Amazon July to see how it even feels to not order anything for a month. I have always wanted to try to shop more locally, but it seems the stores never have what I am looking for. Wish me luck! 🥴

I've got too much stuff in the garage to move in order to give the pros clean working space to install the ceiling. I'm going to insulate and drywall incrementally as budget and time and strength permits.

Is my plan efficient? No, but as the Brits say, needs must.
That's why I am going to get the drywall done before I start moving stuff in the new garage.

doing as much as I can outside before the rains come. Shop vac does great at cleaning up foiliage from two doors down’s tree that the whole neighbourhood hates.

Flatdeck trailer was borrowed by a coworker, told him he’s the last guy to use it other than me, I tired of letting others wear out my tires….then when he showed up to get it…..he brought not only 2 flats but 3! I taking it to the storage yard after work Monday.

Then move some stuff around and whip up some sketches for future projects.

Our few local hardware stores responded to the competition from on-line sellers by simply rolling over and showing their bellies.

ACE is now a paint store. Do It Best is a women's western wear store. Even the grocery stores that used to have a pretty good selection of kitchen and camp gear have given in.

Then they have the audacity to chide us for not "shopping local"--and can't even use decent grammar to do so.

I don't disagree, I am going to try to do a full month of no Amazon, I suspect it will just be me going without until the month is over and August will be Amazon Mega Mania at my house, my suffering probably will have been in vain.

Good luck, I tried and I live near Pittsburgh. I couldn’t find the correct steel decking material without ordering online from a company based in Georgia but luckily had storage warehouse in Pittsburgh. I wouldn’t have been able to order it at the warehouse.

My other issues with shopping locally is their prices are high. I understand $20-40 extra on some big items but when they start adding $100 and $200 to the price, I have to shop online for the same product.

I have a decent Ace Hardware, Lowes, Menard's and Home Depot near me. Mostly I am trying to cut down my mindset of just shopping for stuff on Amazon. I don't have a whole bunch of major supplies I need right now, this won't be forever. I am just trying to beat the habit of shopping on Amazon specifically.

Often I tend to buy stuff because I can and not because I truly need to.

We will see how it goes!

Yesterday, finished up with the mower. Seems to run pretty good, hope the running condition lasts. Moved my car into shop for oil change and tire rotation. Will be able to check/inspect suspension while tires are off - I added a lift to it late last spring. Will also do some heat gun work to the front inner fenderwells.

To be honest, I just need to stop shopping. I have enough stuff. Why do I feel I need more?

Restoring another old Coleman lantern, this time a May of '50 242C:

It's dirty, but it's in GREAT shape! That ventilator (the hat) is in incredible shape for one of these--the 242 series burns so hot, it tends to destroy vents. The globe (glass) is original. Everything is in great shape. I doubt this lantern saw much use before being parked in the barn. Hell, they didn't even splatter white paint all over it!

54603068665_1164d760a8_o.jpg

The usual mud dauber condo. It was so stuffed full I had to chip the nests out with a screwdriver to take things off.

But the nests don't go to waste

54602961344_48454c3d07_o.jpg

they fertilize the posies out front of the shop.

Ready for the ultrasonic cleaner, where the parts are right now.

Progress on today's project:

54603226814_244c5030e3_o.jpg

Parts fresh out of the ultrasonic, after a half-hour w/hot lye solution, followed by a half hour with hot sodium citrate solution.

The sodium citrate is still leaving me amazed. I've been using phos acid for rust removal, but it has problems. It will etch and dull the porcelain enamel on the ventilators, so that's a non-starter. Sodium citrate removes every bit of rust and leaves the enamel gleaming. Phos acid dissolves the zinc from brass, leaving it "pinked". Sodium citrate leaves the brass bright. It does trash paint, the only downside so far.

Compare this to the pic above:

54603348085_7e89b14d5b_o.jpg

No elbow grease was employed.

Even the 75-year-old glass came out gleaming:

54603047226_419f4c37b2_o.jpg

But I was suffering from a bout of the yips.

Now for some elbow grease to get all that beautiful nickel polished and waxed, and all the parts back together.

Spent most of June so far refinishing this 50+ year old garage door. Wanted a new, black, glass modern door but the $20k price and security issues kept me from doing it. Spent the time for new paint, glass buff, new surround trim and moldings really turned out great. On to the next project which is probably that walk in door but hate to refinish it before all my interior construction work is complete.
