End game is to someday enclose the sides and put doors on all of my shelving. I do like being able to look and immediately see what is there, but also yearn for the clean look of solid painted doors. I even bought all the hinges to do this job about 6-7 years ago :dunno:

More organization and thinning out of "stuff" required. Probably going to get rid of the short bench along with the drill press that is mounted to it, go with a floor model that takes up less space. More Winter projects for the coming cold months.

Marc, one thing I did in my last shop after a few years, was to build some rather inexpensive doors to cover the shelves under my workbenches. I cannot believe what a difference that small "tweak" made to the overall feel of the shop.

Marc, even shelving was too expensive when I started organizing my garage in 1997. At the time Home Depot had cheap upper and lower kitchen cabinets. I think I spent about $600 for all the cabinets and a bunch of 15x30 and two 15x42 door packs (2 door panels & 4 European hinges per pack). Made a bunch of shallow cabinets 30x30 boxes with 1x8 and 1x10 pine. Some 1x4 pine to reinforce the backs and I was good to go. Not fancy but boy does it hide my mess collection.

The 1x8 cabinets are the exact depth needed to conceal things as deep as a gallon can and the 1x10 cabinets are deep enough to hide catalogs and magazines.

@Xti04, it was an easy sell to get a workbench for the kitchen. Sadly it doesn't have any of my tools in it. I did sneak the woodworker vise in and installed it on the right end. This was a Costco find many years ago.

Bob, I did some horse trading for some cabinets in the detached garage. Had an old 30gal air compressor that swapped for a set out of a buddy's mom's kitchen. When I moved to the big shop, the wife decided she wanted to keep those in "her" garage.

Busy weekend. I've been daily driving the Suburban since we got back from vacation. On Saturday I went and snagged some parts and set out to do the rear axle bearing on the driver's side of the Tundra. As I was leaving I thought "Marc(cause that's what I go by these days), you should really pull a drum and check the brake shoes."... I didn't. Got back with the parts to do the bearing job, pulled a drum, and got to go back to the parts store for shoes/spring kit

Things just kind of went down hill from there. By the end of Saturday, I had everything ready to go back together. I started to drive the axle seal in and forgot to throw a little grease on the backside and the garter spring decided to exit the chat. That was when I realized it was time to be done. For the evening.

My new to me press worked great after I made some modifications last weekend, added locking casters and moved the cross brace from one in the middle, to 2 on the outer ends of the legs. Blue part is the American made (in Omaha no less) tool for pressing the bearing and accoutrements off.

Sunday we decided to jump in the Suburban to go to church...no start. Got it, this is how we are doing it this weekend. Took the wife's Tacoma instead. When I got back, did some troubleshooting with the multimeter and decided the battery was cooked.

Made up a list of parts needed for both vehicles, and pulled the air line connection from my black pipe dryer to the reel(it's had a small leak for a month or so), and headed back to the parts store.

The afternoon went okay for the most part. Tundra and the Suburban are back in full operational mode.

These little brake line sealing clips are awesome by the way. They were on the brake lines for 24ish hours and not a drip one.

I agree Marc. There are days I miss my '86 Suburban that I dropped a 7.4 liter big block into. That was a clean ride, but a thirsty one.

Now maybe I should have kept it and stuffed a 6.6 liter Duramax powertrain in it..... :unsure:

^^This. I've never used the HF press plates but have two coworkers who have had theirs fail at their home shops.

I have the old press plates that I made from forklift forks that I made for mine about 30 years ago when I bought my Nugier 20-ton press used, but earlier this year I splurged and bought the set from SWAG Off-road and can attest to their quality. Spendy purchase, but worth it.

Cody, thanks for checking in....nothing too noteworthy.

Did a deep clean on the Suburban and Z28. I've been purging some stuff and cleaning/organizing in the shop mostly. Youngest started back to school on Wednesday. I did put the MF 8 tractor up for sale, so we'll see how that goes. Still going back and forth on parting with the '49.

Other than that, it's been too damn hot to be outside, so I've been catching up on some house projects for the Mrs.

Right now, I'm enjoying a cold barley-pop and trying to decide how to talk my wife into taking us out for diner :LOL: 🤷‍♂️

So far a busy weekend starting last night. The horn in the Mrs.'s Tacoma quit working, so I had ordered a new clockspring to fix the issue. Knocked that out along with a new air filter and some fresh wiper blades. Horn now honks as required. She is happy, life is good.

Youngest's TaoTao 4-wheeler has been giving me some fits. Suspected(diagnosed with the poor details that are out there) CDI box. So I ordered 2, installed the hotter box out of the 2 I ordered and it fired right up. He ran it around for about 3min and it quit and will not restart. No spark at the plug. I've tried 3 different coils, 2 CDI boxes, still no joy. So at this point all that is left is the stator and the voltage regulator. Regulator is $8 and a quick fix. For as many of these chinese rigs that are out there, there really is poor info on testing components. Plan to get it running and send it down the road. Time to start a project with the boy and build him a go kart instead...or maybe a Honda moto or quad.

Today's task was mowing the road sides on our 2mi stretch of county rock road. Maintainer hasn't been down our road once this summer with the blade, so the grass has gotten out of control. My FIL made a pass earlier this Summer with his AC WD45 and mower. Today everything got at least 1 pass, some of it 2. The school bus is running down our road with schoool back in session and I'd like to give Ben more room when meeting oncoming traffic. I was also tired of pulling off in the grass when meeting someone on the road...felt like you were driving through a tunnel.

No pictures of any of this, so you'll just have to trust me ;)

In other news, I've found a new owner for the MF 8 tractor. It's the right person to own it, if it's not going to be me. He started a lawn business with one 35 years ago and has been looking for one to restore. It will actually be going further north in IA than @XJSuperman !

Well, I have been doing stuff. But haven't been doing so hot at documenting any of the work. Tao Tao 125 is back to full operational capacity. Stator ended up being the actual culprit. Not terrible to R&R and parts are relatively inexpensive (haha let's be honest cheaply made!).

Youngest built his first "engine" a few weeks back. They had a 4 cylinder setup that had light up spark plugs...couldn't pass that up. Lots of discussion on what the parts are, what they do, and how a 4 cycle engine works.

Spent most of a week driving the '49 to see if I could fall back in love with it. Meh, it was fun for a day or two...but not necessarily "enjoyable".

Fall is most certainly upon us, cool mornings and Mother Nature can't decide if it wants to continue Summer or gracefully slide into Fall type temps.

Corn seemed to change overnight harvest will be starting this week. Bartlett is giving 1/2 dock on 20% moisture corn.

Tool acquisition and organization has been a common theme in the shop lately. Filling some gaps, adding some needs, and upgrading lesser purchases of the past. Picked up an M12 3/8 Stubby impact (good for 550ft/lbs) and a high speed ratchet (for free, Milwaukee e-rebate).

Have a fun weekend coming up, I'll make it a point to document better with pics.

Enjoy the rain that seems to be hitting eastern KS from what I've seen recently. Are you also getting the 90deg temps again like I am later this week? Corn is turning up here. They'll be starting any day now. I saw two fields taken off so far, but nothing opened up or eased into. I'd offer to take the 49 off your hands, but the wallet says no. I could give it a temp home once winter is over though....;)

We had 2.60" last week. Its done for today, didn't check the gauge before I left this morning but it was definitely a "good rain". Yes...90+ on Saturday, which is kind of lame, but thems the breaks. Everyone had to scramble to chop corn this year, they waited for it to get just right, and then it just went straight to drying out. I think maybe the rust got to it?

'49 is a real conundrum for me. It's inexpensive to own $26/mo for agreed value coverage, and $17/yr to tag...but I've only driven it 2300ish miles since October of 2017. The math ain't mathin'.

287 miles/yr. What is not enjoyable about it? noise, comfort?
Thinking of upgrading? selling?

I can provide some absurd modification suggestions if you wish. Given you live on a dirt road and already have a muscle car.
Chop the top, roots blower out of the hood, IFS front drive axle, transfer case, 4x4. Keep it low. Cross between a rally car and a typhoon/cyclone (given the S10 frame) but looks of a '49

Trade you my '01 suburban?

Wind noise, some of which could be mitigated with extra weatherstripping on the door. It has all new stuff, but the drivers door is tweaked like so many of that era, very difficult to get it pulled back out without doing paint/body work. Comfort in the form of no heat/AC. Makes it a partial 2-seasonish vehicle in KS. I have 60-70% of the necessary pieces to add in this stuff, but it requires removing most of the front wrap, and I'm not convinced I would drive it more with the creature comforts. It is 100% useless in the rain, the wipers are there for decoration and float off the window at anything above 35mph. Tried to give it to my uncle that lives south of Tucson in Green Valley, but he decided he really didn't need it, his Harley is the only toy he wants I guess. Selling is under consideration. It was fun to build/initially drive it and sort out the details, but it doesn't really serve much of a purpose at this point.

I'm going to throw some more audio equipment at it, needs some 4" speakers in the dash grille for better highs and I will probably throw an 8" slim powered sub under the seat. The amplified 6x9s really are lacking at highway speed. Maybe I'll get excited this Winter and tear down the front end and finish up an HVAC install. If nothing else, all these things will help it sell.

My dad and I discussed building this old truck into something for years when I was younger. We didn't get the chance to build it together and maybe that has something to do with it :dunno:

In regard to the Suburban, I'm not sure I could go back to a 1/2t rig at this point. If it was a 2500 with the 8.1...maybe 🤘:LOL:
