Man is Google and its AI search totally useless!

I was looking for info on the odd hammer I got today - It had Worcester Mass on it's top, and on the bottom a wrong patent No. and and obliterated company name:

Using an image description search I was able to find someone else's info post adn got the company mane and the pattent number, search on the USPTO is nearly as bad, but I got there.

Its a welders chipping hammer, and has provision for a wire brush to be attached. I was wondering what the hole from top to bottonm on the "hammer head" part was!





Apparently St. Pierre is the manufacturer.






This was my one "WTF was it?" Q from today.

What do you think of this hammer on the far left? My initial thought was blacksmith related but perhaps a similar sort of chipping hammer. I didn't notice any marking on it but I'll have to double check.

Met LesserDaughter2 & fiance, LSJr at Jake’s Flea this morning but quickly lost them in the busy rows. For $5 MrsLS picked up a galvanized pail and two plants for her yard decorating project.
For $30 I picked up a doweling/tenoning bracebit, Plierench, backpacker-profile survival multi-tool, Utica-mfd Williams longnose, Williams 3/8dr flexshaft, Crafstman circle-H 1/4dr flex spinner, Snap-on 1/2dr extension sp socket and two S-O overstrike sockets, a nutcracker(?) that may have been mfd by Cam-Ron, couple extruded SP sockets, Millers Falls obstruction screwdriver, SK bit, Bonney 3/8dr deep socket Phillips stubby Zenel tappet full polish combo, Klein 4-bit stubby, US brass lock, two big wingnut assemblies, small Channellock, two small Craftsman pliers.

Lots of estate and garage sales this time of year especially if you need furniture, ladies & kids clothes and shoes, glassware/kitchenware stuff etc. but been pretty slow tool wise. Not to mention the numerous FB ads that fail to mention one or combination of times, dates, addresses, types of items ?. Does FB charge by the word ?

Hit one sale Friday of a retired Kodak machinist with sale posted at like 11:00 am but started at 8:30 am so came up empty and have no idea where is was posted earlier but could be a FB thing.

Yesterday nothing was striking my fancy enough to get my **** in gear but of course don't you know it a private run estate sale pops up on FB at like 7:30 am indicating tools, tools, tools and of course the usual household stuff. So I hustle to get out the door for the 30 minute drive for a 8:30 start time. Quite a few tools of course in the garage in basement but not a ton of quality stuff but being the first there had the run of the garage and basement for awhile so was able to take my time searching in my attempt to put scattered sets together. Any who was decently successful for $35 out the door.

Snap On Phillips drivers and funky Snap On double box end wrench with metric on one end and relatively corresponding SAE on the other end, never seen anything like those before. All look to be unused.



Gray Canada 3/8" drive SAE socket sets and extensions that somehow made it across the river and again look unused. These will go in my Mastercraft/Beach stack that I am gradually outfitting with made in tools.

With the limited pic, I'm leaning "as built" for something someone was forming. - so likely blacksmith, as you thought.

Looks like “No88” to me. I don’t know the manufacturer. There are more raised points that could be letters in a name like “SABRAHAM,” but despite tantalizing dark streaks, the extreme palendromic symetry makes me think they may not be letters.



Thie pics don’t show it, but the blade has a small L-shape near the cutting edge, like on some augers. It was somewhat mangled.
Then there’s a pilot hole with an adjustment screw. I assume a regular drillbit of the right diameter could go through there.

If you recognize the manufacturer, please let me know before I start wading through add and catalogs!

Nickel-plated steel, forged in USA. I think by Cam-Ron in Emporium PA, because of the grip pattern, which was a puzzle until I found these dikes:

Here I’ve been complaining about the slim pickings lately. As a rule i don’t normally go to the later days of a sale. Some of you have done quite well on things that might have been originally priced high. I think I did pretty well on this Coleman 220E. 90% at least of the original paint. I think the globe is original as well? The ventilator only has a couple small chips. January 1955. Pretty decent survivor of 70 years.
Not bad at all for $20.

Those E's are great workhorse lanterns.

Yes it does say Pyrex on the other side! The pump is stuck, other than that I bet it would fire right up. I’m surprised this one was still not sold even at his original price. I could tell it was in great shape.

Thanks! That New Britain-manufactured C-man spinner came home mostly because of the handle. I have a 1/4dr spinner (unmarked), a Lic2 P1 screwdriver (unmarked Irwin, I guess) and a 3/8dr spinner (unmarked), all with the same handle profile (8 ridges).

I think it is JH Smith’s 1866 patent 56459 assigned to EC Stearns, and renewed in 1880. The opposing threads screw is distinctive, even though the patent drawing is blocky. But it’s not among the other hollow augers (I had hopes for “no33”) in the 1924 or later catalogs on ITCL.

I'm going to see if I can connect with somebody on one of the "Coleman collector" sites and see if they want it.

And I got nothin' on "A.A. Wood" except for an 1875 page (available at ITCL) and one catalog page that shows a different model of Wood tenon cutter.

Carboot at the weekend, I had said previously that I'm only buying what I can use or what really catches my interest.
This is firmly the second category for now.
A scroll former or bender, seems quite similar to this link.
After picking morning at a few sales this year, I maybe just wanted something from this one. I know I pick blacksmith tools, but most would make a quick former rather than set this up, would be great for multiple copies though, but how often is that needed
All that said, I think it's quite cool. Spent a little time with it, mainly trying to get the capstan handles off, to make for easier storage, one fought , but I won. Will get it bolted to something one of the days to take it for a test 'spin'

Yes, there are some that, except for the grip pttern (and that they are currently made in China), look identical. I searched “nut cracker” or “crab cracker” and got the same tool.

in some cases, they are the same tool. Subsequent improvements to Mr. Harless' design (and the later patent 3395421) incorporated features designed for dealing with the shells of crustaceans. The pair I found were produced prior to the later patent having been issued.

The "pilot hole" is probably for a depth stop. I thought it might be a Millers Falls or Goodell-Pratt, but although the one I have has a similar left and right thread adjustment, there are many differences too.
