I've never met a wrench organizer I liked. I've tried Craftsman, Tekton, and one of the Snap On styles. Not saying they're bad, just they didn't work for me. The Ernst design seems to be well liked, I'll give those a try. I had a 20% off Zoro coupon and for some reason my credit card company had a 15% cash back deal on Zoro purchases for one week only, so I couldn't resist that Tekton Bit set...

*Sigh*

Didn't like the Ernst wrench holders. The wrenches were too close together to easily grab them with my sausage digits. And one of the magnets fell out. I had a project to get done today and ran out of time to mess with them. Their next stop is the screwdriver drawer.

However, in keeping with the theme of the thread...

I like that pole saw. I bought/added an extra middle extension to mine for a little added reach (Dewalt Pole, Middle Extension #DWB-N611762). I did have to modify it a little though, It wasn't as plug-and-play as I hoped. Dewalt designed that middle section so an extra section wouldn't easily be able to be used that way. I don't remember exactly what I had to do, but it wasn't too difficult. Cut off a notch or something so it would fit on one end.

I should have time to try it out this weekend. Not sure I'll need more reach, but if I do, I'll keep that in mind. I see how the ridges work for assembly, should be easy to remove if I have to. Thanks for the tip!

I thought I had lost my Matco 5/32” Allen, since I don’t have a dealer anymore I ordered a replacement from Tekton which will be a spare now.
While there I ordered #1,2,3 3/8” drive Philips and a set of the discontinued hard handled Torx drivers IMG_3285.jpeg

Had a bit of a brain bash earlier this week when the lift gate on my Forester let go/snapped. Thankfully my head was able to stop the lid from slamming down with a broken piston that would have for sure... damaged the tail light lens...

Ordered new pistons, and these two items... the clamps will hold it open while replacing the broken side. The REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT will prevent me from trying to close the lid without removing the clamp.

They will be "Paracorded" together. The yellow bungie will be stored with their brothers.

I'm not usually a hard-handled screwdriver guy, but ordered the Tekton disco screwdriver set in long length because they were such a good deal, and I figured the long length made them a bit different than my other sets... LOVED THEM! Then ordered them in regular length as well... At $25 for the long chrome six piece set and $12 for the standard length chrome four piece set, US made, it's hard to say no! Now seeing your hard-handled Torx, might have to grab a set of those as well?

The Tekton drivers have taken over the drop-holes on one side of my USG service cart. Made in the USA, red handles, white lettering, and the blue box make for a good 4th of July post!

.^^^ in case anyone noticed and was wondering... I often mark my 14mm sockets with a bit of yellow paint when they are on an unmarked socket rail. Makes a convenient "index" for the socket I'm looking for. 12mm? Down two. 17mm? Up three. Of course that only works when you have no-skip sets, which most of my sets are.

How long does the paint last?

I mark the post, not the socket. I'm usually looking down at the rail, either in the drawer, or on the floor if I've taken to the work, so I can easily see it, and it's still a useful reference point if the sockets are off the rail.

I mark the 10mm or 7/16, as that's the one I want most often.

Forgot to add the picture, as I found this design/ execution interesting. Don’t think I have seen that before. Basically a spring element with two prongs.

I think I've lost the spring on two (or more) of those.

I now have the gedore ones. I like the knurling to use it to spin something in/out quickly.

Not-quite-new from a yard sale:

For less than 1/10 the new price, it's new enough! I just ordered $40 worth of belts for it, various abrasives from 40-5,000 grits. I think this'll come in handy for refinishing knife blades and such--not to mention cleaning-up inside corner welds.

Oh, hell yeah!

I chucked up the "new " mini-belt in my worthless Asian vise

54633699450_526e705f81_o.jpg

and, with the 240 grit belt that came on it, tried cleaning this up:

54632533782_c800ca949a_o.jpg

The grinder marks on the primary bevel are worse than the pic show.

Less than a minute later:

!

Best of all, holding the blade with my thumb almost on the edge of the blade, it never got more than warm.

I need a little more practice, but this is what I've been wanting for a while! I may have to rig up some kind of tool rest for it for "roughing" the bevels on knives before finishing with the Wicked Edge. Should save a hell of a lot of time on chisels and plane irons, too.

Does it count if I printed, not bought these?

I typically use spudgers and plastic putty knives as non marring scrapers/pry tools. However, I couldn't find mine, and got tired of having to scrape things off the print bed with fingernails.

So, I browsed the various sites (mostly Thingiverse and Printables), selected what I thought may work, and printed them. All of these work great at taking them off the print bed and prying away supports.

Also, the Vise Grips. I wanted to try "Print in Place" and also wanted some non-marring pliers. They didn't take long to print, so I printed them off. They actually work, and grip pretty well.

Mac Tools SMEDL3PT 1/4" drive and SXEDLA3PT 3/8" drive locking hand drive extension sets. I bought them on a BOGO back in March and they finally made it here.

I really like those, how much were they with the deal? One of my favorite Snap On tools is the now discontinued 1/4" handled extension, essentially the same as that M6EDLA but without the locking part.
Yep tried to order one for myself but apparently the MAC didn't want the sale or thought I didn't need it.
...
Yea... The one snap on truck I tried to buy those cute pliers from wouldn't take my stack of crisp $20 bills... Told me he only sells to his customers he parks at. I bought an Icon pair instead.

WTF is wrong with these tool truck guys? Business can't possibly be that good with the increased competition from the likes of Tekton, Capri, Icon offering high quality, easy to warranty tools at a fraction of the tool truck prices... Not to mention incredible alternative tools offered Koken, Vessel, Knipex, etc.

I was trying to track down a local SO franchisee... Not for warranty purposes on my MANY current SO tools, but to buy more. It's like a secret society or something. **** 'em, I even tried buying some SO stuff at their online store, but they have FU shipping prices.

So Zoro/Tekton/Capri/Amazon/JBTools and a small handful of other online sources get me 95% of the tools I want, on my doorstep in a few days, and at great prices. Plus there are FIVE HF stores within a 20 minute drive if I absolutely positively need something TODAY, so I guess I'm OK with the tool truck business model going down in flames.

Really?????? That's... weird.

Reminds me of a recent vid where Eric O. explains why he no longer has any trucks that stop at his shop any more. No Mac, No Snap-on, and No Matco. Said the last one was a Matco guy stopped in and wanted to add him to his route, which Eric said sure, but then after Eric explained neither him nor Josh would be running a truck account and that if they wanted something they would just buy it, and the guy never came back. Eric says that Matco guy stops by his brother's shop, but not by his.

Last shop I worked at was the CAT dealership, left there in 2023. Afterwards, I still had my old Snap On dealer and others.

But since moving, I'm not having any luck making connections with any of the local dealers.

It's not something I've really experienced personally before, only read about it online or heard about it second hand.

Sometimes they simply don't want your business for whatever reason. It doesn't seem like a good business strategy, but what do I know? :dunno:

I think SOG knives used to use a similar design for their bit adapter for the square drive adapter for their multitools.

I think the set was $138-140 and the 1/4" was free,..BOGO. I knew with tax, I had $150 in my pocket and would have walked off the truck if he had them.

I hear about drivers with bad attitudes too, but also hear about these tool truck guys going out of business and losing their routes. Surely there is some overlap or a correlation between driver attitude and success. On the whole, I think Snap-on is doing pretty well. There is always a cheaper option, but that always comes with a tradeoff.

I'm not on a route, but the driver I bought from in SoCal was (and still is) awesome. Really pleasant guy to do business with and has gone out of his way for me for no real reason - says that's what makes Snap-on what it is. Can't disagree with him on that one, and when I order from the Snap-on website or call them I get the same exceptional service. It's free shipping over $250 IIRC.
