Possibly shop made. Usually VG made tools the metals all look the same.

Thanks. I tried looking it up, but most of what I found is a power company. When I did finally find Cleco's site, I didn't feel like dealing with the cookies ****.

But what are Cleco pliers?

What ist Cleco?

Cleco are positioners used eg in aviaton, when repair patches need being installed in aircraft skin.
Have the patch shaped and dimensioned. Place it in position, drill a hole through patch and skin. Install the Cleco clip to maintain alignment of the holes. Drill next, attach Cleco and continue with next until full pattern was drilled. Then start removing Cleco and replace by rivet until entire patch ist installed.
Operate Cleco by means of this plier.

They also make little spring loaded clamps, like the ones in the second photo I posted above. I've got both styles, but mainly use the clamps. Most of my clamps are the shorter jaw style. They're very useful.

I could see how locking the clamp in the open position with vise grips might be useful, then releasing the VG once in position. The compact design of the original pliers is nice though.

I don't think the VG pliers are specifically meant for Clecos, but may be for something similar. That said, they may work on Cleco stuff.

I should add that the VGs have a uniform coating all over of that goldish color which looks like yellow zinc plating with a chromate conversion coating, which is unlike any VG I have seen which are chrome plated.
