Sometimes I hear voices, when someone drives by and my hearing aids decide to pair with their phone. It's a hoot in rush hour traffic. The things people say when they think they're in a private space.
Back in the day, I could tune in AM stations on my silver amalgam fillings. No more with resin fillings.

The junior high I (occasionally) attended was next door to the transmitter of one of the most powerful AM stations in the NW US--KYXI. The heating radiators played music. The window frames in the library played talk shows. Kids with braces complained of hearing music and voices.

Today was day number 2 of my build on a wooden blown sbc. It’s my first week back in the garage in 3 weeks, as my cancer has kicked my *** lately. Hopefully another day or so and I’ll have it finished!

A Dorman deal I just could not pass on!
Five-4 drawer Dorman parts units/cubes.
Just like the old Western Auto had when I was just a kid.
They are not in really bad shape, drawers had some rust, paint needed cleaning where there was paint. Overall, 80% was just cosmetic.
A few trays needed scraping, primer and top coat, nothing a few rattle cans couldn't fix. Planning on cutting some rubber matting to slide in the bottoms of the trays. There are possible upgrades in new vynal drawer stickers in the OEM style, but at $5 a pop???? I think I'll pass on the new front covers....they can stay crusty, just like me.

Yesterday, fenders off again and went to the alignment shop. As I was taking them off, I spotted a crack in the passenger side front body mount.

Today, ground a little bevel in the crack and welded it. Awkward spot to work, laying under the running board.

IMG_7307.jpeg

Also noticed that the front bolt for the body mount was missing, so I replaced it. I had a grade 8 bolt and nut on hand, so that’s what I used.

Fenders and wheels back on.

Set up the sanders for tomorrow.

I'd been eyeing those. Glad they got grabbed well

edit: whoa not the ones I was eyeing if they were 5$ a pop lol

Pulled the engine out of my boat.

LOL! I was working on mine too. The Last bolt I put in holding the lower unit on pulled all the threads out. I had to remove it again and put a helicoil in. 🤦‍♂️

I just got it back together a few minutes ago. If the wind isn’t blowing too hard I’ll check it out tomorrow. I gotta start doing this maintenance in the winter

Mostly took the day off, I got someone to PU a couple lo lopped Yucca heads for replanting so I put two more out this AM and those are gone now too.

We have a possibility that our garbage PU wil go out on "sympathy strike" as its the same company that has a real local strike somewhere, so I adjusted the recycling and garbage early so we hopefully won't be overflowing with nasty stuff. I can deal with recyclable stuff and a lot of garbage can sit in a bag without attracting vermin, so the cans get only the dregs.

Light boat and trailer maintenance and prep, trip out of town coming up.

Started to service the transmission and rear diff on my dually. Thunderstorms caused a rain delay. Transmission is drained, new filter and pan replaced, just need to fill with fluid today. Transfer case and rear diff next in line if I can get the afternoon thunder storm to hold off, I'm working on the pas out front the shop. Mag Hytec pans and covers replacing the factory pieces for easier maintenance on the next service, Motorcraft for all the fluids and filter.

Buddy came over yesterday to change the light bulbs on the Ranger. Steering column has to be dropped to allow access to the thirteen bulbs in the instrument cluster. This is why I try to not work on cars. I cooked up some dinner while he was fussing with the truck.

Not much garage time lately with the heat/humidity we've been having here. I did manage to finish installing conduit from the garage to the greenhouse and get the trench filled back in this week. Yesterday I took apart the hedge trimmer attachment and repacked with fresh grease, then lubed the blades. Then greased the string trimmer head and cleaned up a bit.

I gotta start doing this maintenance in the winter.

I hear ya. I am usually pretty good at doing the maintenance and other projects in the off season. I have a boat condo so I can work on my boat even when there is 4 feet of snow outside. This is because of a new issue. I had done a bunch of things over the winter and this was discovered after our first test run. We launched and drove around for an hour or so. everything was running and operating great. Including my 2000 gph automatic bilge pump. We had stopped and shut everything down and was rigging up some lines to drag in the water when the pump came on. Okay, not unsual as I had washed out the bilge and decks a couple days earlier so no big deal. Then it came on again and again. This got my attention so I started lifting motor covers and deck panels to see WTF. I could not tell from where at the time but we were definitely taking on water. Time to head back.

I could not find anything obvious while on the trailer so I decided to relaunch the boat minus decking and engine covers. I brought lights, mirrors and cameras. I was 90 percent sure that it was coming from the transom area. I tried to use my snake/boroscope type camera but it was just too bright out to see the screen. So I ended up finding the area using my cell phone in video mode and holding under the motor as far as I could. It was coming in at the bottom of the exhaust Y where it connects to the transom plate. So I pulled the motor to access the exhaust Y. Pic of Y suggests that it has been leaking for years. Now waiting on parts...

Not today, but earlier this week, my brother had his 2007 Mountaineer towed down to my house for some major repairs it needs. It has the dreaded 4.0 V6 with the timing "cassettes" in the front and rear of the engine, and he wants to replace them. To get to the bolt holding the rear cassette in place, you have to pull the transmission out  what a genius design ... but I digress.

It had been sitting at his house awaiting repair for some time, and in that time it developed a no crank, no start condition. I broke out the test light and found that the 12V signal wire on the solenoid was missing. With some poking and prodding, discovered that the signal was lost at the PCM due to the transmission range switch going bad. The PCM thinks that Park is Reverse, Reverse is Neutral, etc. Went to the sensor and found it out of alignment, tried aligning it but the sensor still wasn't reading correctly. NOS Ford sensor is on the way.

While it sits here in my driveway like an ugly lawn ornament, we'll be pulling the transfer case to diagnose a clicking noise under acceleration, replacing the timing cassettes, and I'll teach him how to do front brakes since the front brakes are TOAST.

That’s a serious bilge pump. When mine kicks on I just reach down and put the drain plug in 🤦‍♂️

Ya'll got auto bilge pumps on ya'lls boat?!?!

I really need to look into an auto bilge pump, but the bilge pump I have still works. I just have to remember to turn it on while fishing.
What should happen, is I should find the damn leak in the boat. The water was coming from the right side of the boat, but I couldn't see it directly due to the metal cover of the foam section of the boat was hiding the leak.

Yesterday I took apart the hedge trimmer attachment and repacked with fresh grease,

That became a "That reminds me!" moment. I just did the same for my little antiquey 12" B&D electric hedge trimmer!

I'd been using it on the ivy, and I was sure I'd done it when I picked it up, and I saw signs of some added when I opened it, but I cleaned it out, cleaned the gears and did it right just now.

In yesterday's news, Yep our Garbage guy's are on strike, - They better not be charging for services they are not delivering...

Ran out of slides today and decided to make the new tool my travel kit to take to my son’s house for projects there.
Repurposed a range bag to carry all the needed tools, attachments, bits, charger etc.

I really need to look into an auto bilge pump, but the bilge pump I have still works.

The pump is not actually automatic. It is a standard Rule 2000 wired through a float switch that works like the float in your toilet bowl but comes on when the level is high and off when low enough. This pump operates only from the float, I have another smaller one that operates from a switch at the helm. Having 2 or more pumps is very common here. Sinking *****.

Usually faster to just pull the engine and leave the trans in.
