Trammel points make me chuckle. When I did my carpentry apprenticeship , starting nearly 40 years ago, next month ,trammel points were a required tool in the fourth year classes ,specifically stair class. The 4 year apprenticeship classes were set up with mandatory tools(which were available for purchase at the school store) .What this did was create an environment where you bought tools on a regular basis and were prepared for many things. I had to ask my dad what trammel points were as I had no Idea. I still have the set I bought 37 years ago and I'll bet they haven't been used 10 times. In class we used them to step off the hypotenuse of stair stringers from tip of tread to tip of tread, to ensure stringer layout was correct.Below that is a single trammel point, which looks like a brother to one that @Outlawmws scored a few weeks back.newer

Rust bluing requires boiling to change the iron oxide to hematite.Fair day today, not gigantic, but it was not too hot, not too cold, both temps and sales.
Started at a Yard sale, as it was open about the same time as I try to get to the Flea, but on the way:
Got this shade, the hole clears the top of a 242 series, I'd need to open it slightly for a 200A:

stanley driver needing an SG soak for the blade, Sliding bevel maker unknow as yet, Older Craftsman "Yankee" driver, Clon C era with the Geometric font a Brass clamp, and a clamping base for an umbrella? $5 all for this stop.
The skate Key was from the Col Flea for a buck.
Col Flea, more tools, Plvmb DBE and DOE, older Blue pints DBE, SO combo, and a 10MM gearwrench twisted ratchet wrench. I'd love to fins a set of these at a good price, but I seem to find them 1 at a time..
Another Yard sale, 3 bucks for a bamboo lap desk with cooling vents for a laptop
Another YS a TOO this time, and $5 for two old and surface rusted Daisy BB guns a repeater and a single shot. - I'm hoping the rust will "card off" and become bluing . Both seem ready to fire otherwise.
And the last stop: 5 tubs for a buck each. I could have gotten 20 or more, but I restrained. Orange was picked on purpose. Size is about 9 X 10 X 15

Meanwhile, while BMW was pillaging my home town used building materials recycling store, I was hitting another sale on my lunch. Kinda think I got taken advantage of, but that's ok... Paid $4 for everything. Pulled all these out of bin of junk chinesium tools.
Snap on wobble 3/8- 12" extension, instinct #2 driver- 16", 7/8 socket- 3/8 drive, 1/4 drive ratchet, vintage hard handle pick

What is the end profile of that file. A tall skinny Diamond? Or a vertical half diamond?
A Japanese feather file is the tall skinny Diamond, which is used to sharpen japanese toothed saws, which are impulse hardened, which can’t be sharpened. Never heard this slitting term for that shape.
If it is a half vertical Diamond, right or left, it is possibly a cant file, used for sharpening tree felling saws. Mine are not tapered along the length. Apparently someone called this a feather edge file, per Google AI, I did not verify.

I think you can see why I called it a "feather" file. Single-cut, fine, and still very sharp--maybe unused.
Length, shoulder to tip, is 4".
Without breaking out some serious macrophotography gear, the tang stamp is barely visible in the first image.

On Saturday, there were only a couple stops that looked interesting, but I managed to find this at the first one:
Not sure who made it yet, but it is full of... junk? Maybe, but there is some interesting stuff mixed in.
Oh, and I found the key mixed in with the junk. $20

If that is a metal over wood case, it won’t be in “the guide”. I have an ASCO (as does Lugz), and one that appears to be a Green Case, another option might be buried in the SIPCO thread too.

My Sipco has a different latch:

I just got around to looking over the bag of assorted driver bits that I got in my latest auction lot, and found two items of interest. One is a Proto wing nut socket, marked 44.B.8812-1/4 and the other is a bronze (?) bit holder marked with patent number 2,522,217, which is a 1950 patent assigned to Apex Machine & Tool Co.

Been slow in my parts for sales with quality tools. Hit 4 sales this weekend and 3 out of 4 were duds but the last one bore some fruit.
Craftsman top box from a couple weeks ago that needs some clean-up. Looks to be circa 1949 or so. Paid $30 for it.
Also pictured, Metabo 5" grinder from this weekends sale.
Bunch of Vise-Grips and Cincinnati clamps, Armstrong adjustables and a Williams S-52 ratchet all which set me back $25 including the grinder.
Craftsman top box from a couple weeks ago that needs some clean-up. Looks to be circa 1949 or so. Paid $30 for it.

Update: here is what was in the machinist chest that I am keeping:
20 or so taps, a dozen dies, pocket knife, wood filler putty, blades, Plomb socket, drill bits, some penny's, glass cutters, and so on.
Here is what I am throwing away:
And at this point, the drawers a vacuumed out, tape is being soaked to make it easier to remove, and a handle has been found in my pile, but not yet mounted.

MrsLS & I took a spin to Jake’s Flea this morning, where $6 brought home a 6’ Roddy baitcast rod, a Shakespeare Alpha 35 spinning reel, a leather hatchet sheath, Bonney Zenel doe, Wizard kit doe, unmarked vise pivoting jaw pad.

Just one stop this weekend. Picked up this Kennedy (T-18) tackle box for $20. A bit of surface rust that should clean up easily. Nothing great inside. Not a great deal, but I have a soft spot for Kennedy boxes.
