Den of Tools has a link to the upcoming HF Parking Lot Sale in August. Includes 40% off ALL sockets, 35% off ALL torque wrenches, etc.

I'm linking his video and the link to the flyer is in the description. Not sure if he gets income on links, so didn't want to link the flyer directly.

Note - for some reason his link goes to page 4/5 so you have to back track to page one to see the coupons.

Time to start getting a few extra sets. These do include things like the Quinn sets (honestly, my favorite "bang for your buck" ratchet) with sockets, correct?

Figure at 40% off--I'll swap much of my Craftsman stuff over to Icon.

The Badland UTV winch was budgeted for August anyway, and 30% off helps.

Originally, I was looking at the 3500 lb. model, as it was the only one in my budget. The Kubota RTV-900 UTV exactly one ton, but I'd say fully loaded, that's 3K--so that's pushing the 3500 lb. capacity.

Also, I'm swapping my hand winch over to Amsteel Blue (from steel cable), and I figure that synthetic winch rope is safer.

Gotta measure, but Kubota's winch pocket is pretty large--but still, I don't know if the "extended drum" will fit on the mounting plate.

My mistake - no coupon needed:

One man's trash is another man's treasure :wtf:

Too bad Harbor freight never released the Icon 3/8 drive digital torque wrench shown at SEMA a couple of years ago.
The question is will the updated Icon compact socket/bit set be 40% off :bounce:
Interesting question. The picture seems to show a "socket set" as in with ratchet and extensions. If you search "socket set" on their site, it comes up as a search item. But I suppose they can say it's a socket "and bit" set.

The results from testing speak for themselves... Icon is behind Snap-on but it’s close in performance. Close enough that’s it’s not justifiable for the majority of folks to buy the Snap-on. That’s just the facts.

I see you are new.

If you are referring to post #14, it was sarcasm. Probably 95% of everything in my garage is from HF.

IMO, most of the hate towards their products is "poppycock"
Agreed. Their tools are just fine for most people, even if you’re making a living turning wrenches. If you like scouring garage sales for deals and want to build a Snap On or SK or Proto set have at it. If you just want to fix your broken junk go to HF and buy stuff you need when it’s on sale and fix your broken junk.

Here’s my opinion: The Icon sockets and wrenches seem to be pretty legit in the tests we’ve all seen. But for a Taiwan tool, they aren’t super cheap. I don’t have the numbers at my finger tips, but I recall thinking Williams USA was within spitting distance.

But at 40% off, some of our newer/younger members should look long and hard at the sets they don’t currently have, like semi deeps etc. Not sure what the discount will be on the long DBE “aircraft style” wrenches, but I think they are nice to use and I think Icon wrenches did okay in the tests.

As I’ve said many times there needs to be a sticky for BASIC automotive tools, then a few additional revisions for intermediate and advanced tools.

I would compare what is in my box with those lists and see if there are deals for stuff actually needed. I think semi deep sockets would be on my intermediate tool list in 1/4” and 3/8” drive. They are really my gotos and I’d almost argue for starting with them.

Can I suggest: let’s turn this thread into something offering practical advice to our members and lurkers and leave the geopolitics etc out of it.

For example: of the items on sale, what do you think are the best values for real shop necessities?

I suggested a few things above. Let me add: a second floor jack, more or upgraded (taller) jack stands.

I wonder if this is when I buy an Icon 1/2” split beam torque wrench?

Part of me wants to but I also prefer to support Tekton when possible.

Looking for some jack accessories. What does HF have that you’d recommend? I have jack stand covers, but they are splitting. And pretty sure I still have a jack pad with the pinch weld grooves.

Thinking about non-marring wheels (tires?) for my Daytona. Any thoughts?

I’m fatigued with HF sales. I’m done living in suspense and scrolling their flyers every day. Got me feeling like a sheep. 7-8 times out of 10 you cannot reasonably get what’s on sale. Either their suppliers cannot keep up or HF throttles back the shipments to stores to make sure there isn’t enough. I dont have the patience for that place, and Im not camping in the parking lot at 5am waiting for them to open to save $30. Time is money and stepping back and looking at how much screen time that store requires to get the item you want a little cheaper doesnt add up. I know, i know, it’s not an airport, I don’t have to announce my departure 😆

I see they are showing a pic of a ratchet on the 40% off coupon but no ratchets show up when you tap the coupon. Also wondering about socket sets that come with ratchets.

I’m in the club! I have a several of their toolboxes and the membership is a no brainer when getting those boxes or really if you will even get something there at least once or twice a year. While I really am tired of allocating time to their sales flyers and ITC flyers (doubling the inbox content), I’d delete my previous post if I could. In retrospect I think my attitude is mostly due to I think my buying spree for the year is winding down and they just don’t have anything else I want this year. Unless a concrete mixer goes on sale 😂

Thats what turns me off. I’m a lot more keen on a system like the Zoro coupon emails… use it on whatever you want so long as it’s in stock. Rather than literally competing with the entire town to score today’s rationed object of masters choosing. It’s like throwing a steak into a pit of malnourished dogs. And the fact that their website inventory has little to no correlation with actual inventory means it’s a wild goose chase too… you could camp in line like it’s a PlayStation release just to get in the store and they tell you they don’t even have it lol. It’s just a lot of hysteria and shitshow for my taste.

To be fair, Harbor Freight is not Amazon.

The only have "x" number of items for sale, so they don't have much choice to be somewhat redundant, when having "sales", which has always been a main draw to their customers.

If I just need to get something there quick, I always wonder "do they have a coupon?" for what I want to get. They usually don't - until a week later.

It’s a waste of time and gas going to HFT. They never have stock and these sales are always store only. there’s things I’d buy, but they are never there.

Check availability on line, ahead of time? :headscrat

Not perfect, but if it states they are out of something they are likely out. If it says "stock limited" I'll call the store directly and have them physically confirm stock availability.

Seems to work for me.

I joined the club just for the savings on a bigger set of boxes. I already have a really good assortment of tools so running to HF for the sales is not happening. I'm looking at getting more of the Bremen clamps but that's about all I'm interested in.

Me too. If it says in stock at whatever store on the website, I've never PERSONALLY had an issue just going, and I also call first if it says "limited stock." I've also asked them to hold one for an hour so I can get down there, and have never been refused (so far) - not sure if they would be willing to hold without a timeline.

I have the Quinn digital, and it's been pretty solid. I have both of the Icon split-beam torque wrenches, and extremely happy with both. The 3/8" is a little long.

The question is will the updated Icon compact socket/bit set be 40% off :bounce:

Apparently not. Folks are so wound up about that kit, but I see it as more of a companion to the "meme tool" vs. a replacement/improvement. For myself, despite the fact that I love the meme tool, I'm skipping the new thing.

Personally, I'd recommend the PowerTorque 1/4" sockets from O'Reilly's - I have the metric set, but they also have SAE, and they're super-shallow.

I had no idea that that many peeps used the original meme tool bit ratchet as a tee handle and would be that upset about the new set. :wtf: I'm good on dual drive sockets between Astro's nano and a VIM set I picked up on ebay before they were a thing. Thanks though
