Metal Cut off saw?

We just wrapped up the bizarre event known as the State Fair.....

When I was walking around the vendors there was one with a neat metal cutoff saw that I can't remember the name of. It was fashioned after a chop saw but used a variation of a portable band saw instead of the typical circular arrangement. It was quite impressive, the guy was cutting wafer thin pieces off of a 2" round bar. I remember it was pricey(fair special) but had some neat attributes. It was a fairly small footprint and easier to store than a traditional horizontal band saw. Has anyone seen one of these, and do you recall the brnad?

If it was in fact a Hyd-Mech, I have a DM-6, which is no longer made, and I love it. Its well made and an animal. I cut some 5" solid bar the other day to make a counterweight and it performed wonderfully.

Thanks for the leads, it was similar in design, but neither of those manufacturers. It had a handle on the "front" like a chop saw or miter saw. It was really pricey, one for $599 and a premium model that was $999, just wondered if there were cheaper alternatives as it seemed to be a neat design.

Those cheap abrasive chop saws are not very accurate and not very pleasant to use. Northern's come out with the first Chinese knock-off of a dry cut saw, though. The $299 price will probably come down further once Harbor Freight gets involved.

You could cut wafers with this (at least until the hinge and the vise go out of spec):

Yea, I hate the abrasive saws, I'm looking at the dry cuts, I've seen a couple of decent ones around $250ish.

Wanted to update this. I finally pulled the trigger on a dry cut saw, bought the Evolution Fury 14" on Amazon, $199 shipped with blade, they actually have one in the deal warehouse for $171.99 when I last looked.

This saw is great, cuts good, very little mess, I'm very pleased with it.

How straight are the cuts? I'm looking for a new way to cut stock down for my hobby machining. The band saw ain't cutting(hehe) it, and the abrasive saw won't cut my aluminum... Something that will need very little machine work to true up would be great. I just don't have the $400 at the moment for a better dry saw.

Let's see, I just zipped through some 2.5"x3/16" wall square steel in about 15 seconds. As an advocate of the good old "heck saw balde" how long do you think it would take for the same cuts? How true would they be?

Any other pearls of wisdom you want to contribute here?

Found the vendor this year, neat saw, way less chips thrown around than my Rage.

But at $1200 I think I can live with the chips, nice saw though, NG120XL.
