I got 500 things going on from now until Sunday so I won't get to make it to this estate sale. This guy had one hell of a collection of stuff! Maybe someone here from the DFW might see it and get something out of it!

Looking at the sale, I noticed a few rules:
Not Responsible For Accidents or Injuries, Customers Enter Premises At Your Own Risk
No Public Restrooms.
No Pets.
Unattended Children will be given a Jolt cola and drum set and will be sent home

I approve.

For those in the mid-Atlantic region, the Markets at Shrewsbury near York, PA is hosting "The Real Man's Yard Sale" on August 9th.

(Yes, the date on the link is wrong, but if you click it, it will show the updated details, including correct date)

I'll be setting up there in a 10x50 spot for a purge. (Yes, lots of U.S. Made tools)

Cleaning house.

Last weekend, I stopped by a small garage sale and saw a small red toolbox with a $5 price tag. One daughter just purchased her first house back East and I planned on bringing her a surprise household box of tools at Thanksgiving, so this looked like the perfect size toolbox (she prefers smaller sized offerings!). It turned out it was full of a few Lectrolite, Snap-on, Crecent, Herbrand, Armstrong and other wrenches, one Snappy ratchet and other miscellaneous hand tools. The three larger wrenches (Plomb and Williams) cost me an extra $3. Some of these might have to stay with Dad!

Playing catch-up again and I'm still three pages back.

***** for:
@1Bad55Chevy for the Coke machine, oldtime drill press and leg vise. You can flip the press and vise for $$.
@JMP for the homemade machinist chest.
@Smokeshow69 for the WWII map--That town 2" to the right of your finger, Birkenfeld, is where my mom's side of the family is from. SWMBO and I were there and in Trier this May.
@WabiSaabi for those pans--900% profit--Nice!

Today's grab from the one sale I was able to find:

54693991433_e0662fb72e_o.jpg

54693772591_0de7629753_o.jpg

Proto--based on the blue ring--#3 Phillips. No other marks on it. Yankee ratcheting driver, fixed bit, which needs straightening and a little grinder work. W. Germany drill bit index, mostly full. I'm pretty sure it isn't mostly full of the indicated sizes.

I've been looking for an index this size for a while. I have 1/16-3/8 by 64ths, but not from there up. I'll transfer the lot I have (fairly nice cobalt) to the new index and then set about filling it with the right sizes from 3/8-1/2".

As I was paying up, I made sure to complement the folks on their signage. Large, easy-to-see and read (without getting out of the car), good directions and arrows where they were needed.

I mostly avoid this thread as I hardly need the 'not so subtle' urges to acquire more tools that is so generously encouraged here....:) I have been looking for a beam saw of late and by some minor miracle I spotted one at the habitat store in Lincoln city the other day. It was yellow tag, 25% off day, and damn if it wasn't sporting one. With that and my old timers discount I was out of there for around $85. Now when I face heavy timbers I'm sure to feel invincible....even had an extra blade in the box. Ed.

Headed upstate today to Trout Run / Ralston PA, the new home of the Loyalsock Valley Antique Machine Association, which is a little confusing to me, because Ralston is in the Lycoming Valley, not the Loyalsock Valley. Anyway, there were antique machines, tractors, etc, and a small flea market (my real objective).
The flea market did not have the volume or variety I had seen a couple years ago at their temporary grounds, so I wound up buying only a $1 Bonney C1 screwdriver with a chewed-up P1 head. Maybe the flea will be larger Sat/Sun. There were some interesting tools, like some WWII “US”-marked pliers and dikes, but the seller was quite aware and had them tagged with eBay-level prices.
IMG_6744.jpegThen I saw Dale the “Hammer Man” had his display trailers set up. I don’t know how many hammers he had there, but his total collection exceeds 2000, mostly without dupes. Shook his hand and had a chat about hammers.
So worth the $5 admission. Then I continued up to my parents’ house and went fishing with my dad, using 1960s/70s reels I picked up at Jake’s Flea a couple weeks ago and reconditioned.

That's the exact saw I used for a few years on the job!

Start doing wrist exercises... the torque on start-up is something to respect.
I always run my skill saws one handed but this is definitely a two hand saw. At least the handles are solid and well placed for good control. Beats sawing from both sides and still having to break out a hand saw or sawzall to finish off the middle.

What a beast! Never knew those existed (and am quite sure that I never want to need one)... Nice score!

I have 6 planned stops today, but nothing had "jumped out at me...Leave in a hour.

For those that don't frequent the "what did you do in" thread the stove I picked up 3 weeks ago (turned out to be a Coleman Gypsy, No. 10 from about 1930 - ~95 YO!) I got the burner assembly rebuilt (after a fight with a sheared off screw...), and seasoned like you would with a CI skillet, and made fire with it last Thursday:

It has an interesting "hot blast" (blow torch) feature to get the generator and manifold hot:

Fire 3.jpg

Here it is running, cleaned - I still need to mitigate the surface rust on the case, and try to preserve as much original paint as possible but ot runs nice!

I ended up getting over to this estate sale today for 50% off. Right when I walked into the garage a gentleman purchased the end mill and the lathe for $750! Thats right $750 for both of those bad *** working machines! That was the reason I had gone over there and i missed out stopping for lunch! I still picked up this Wilton power Hack saw for $100 and a ring roller for $80.

A garage sale with tools over 40 minutes away hit my radar. The seller was a retired diesel mechanic but many of the tools like the machinist related tools came from auctions. Another tool guy like myself got there just a couple minutes before I did otherwise I would have spent way more than I should have. I also left a good pile of vintage Snap On and other good stuff. In total I spent $80.

Some nice toys to add to my recently acquired machinist chest.

IMG_2406.jpeg

Nice collection of high quality Greenfield tap wrenches and taps. My favorite is the small Greenfield tap handle No. 00. Far right a set of Brown & Sharpe center punches along with the tiniest jewelers precision screwdrivers I've ever seen.

IMG_2408.jpeg

Looks to be in great condition. Mitutoyo 505-628-50 12" dial caliper

IMG_2405.jpeg

IMG_2420.jpeg

Snap On:

Water pump pliers, modified? short duck bill vacuum grip pliers, 1/4 TN72 ratchet (like new), tool box badge/emblem, misc. swivel sockets including the illusive 10mm 12 point.

IMG_2415.jpeg

Short lived 50's era 1/2" Craftsman ratchet predating the well known Flying V style. Finding these without a broken selector switch is a bit of good fortune.

IMG_2411.jpeg

New Britain:

IMG_2414.jpeg

Very neat antique H.D. Smith perfect handle ball peen hammer.

Estate sale this morning. I picked up a drawer full of rusty 1/2" drive sockets for ten dollars. Boiled and carded them with three ought steel wool. Here are the before and after. It doesn't do anything for the pits but it does restore the black oxide.

I also found this 3/4 drive Plomb ratchet and PIT box for $15. Then rolled out a Unisaw for $150. I've already cleaned it up and painted it.

Nice haul @JMP! I love the perfect handle ball peen, I have been hunting one of them for a couple of years.

I didn't know such a thing existed but anytime I see a perfect handle screwdriver I am on it. Even more lucky since the other guy went through the box first and took the monkey wrench I wanted (not rare but useful) but overall I'd say I came out ahead despite them having a much larger pile and spending 2x more than me.

I picked up one of those hacksaw blade boxes at the beginning of summer. Who is next?
For a cobbler?
Or shaving the head of your worst friend…

Bummer that you missed out in the lathe! Good score on the items that you did snag.
