I had 6 planned stops today, but nothing had "jumped out at me. but three of the stops proved quite rewarding!

First stop had a dollar table - $8 got me:

2 Knives; the (BIG!) folder is a Western 932, the wood handle is a H Roeslli, Blue point BP and Battery pliers, SO straight pick, unbranded? gas pliers, Dasco Mini-bar:

Y1-knives-wetersn-BB-dasco-bar-SO-pick.jpg

And an aluminum Colander destined to become a lantern shade, the hatchet (may have labels under the rust? was a "take one more tools free!" gimmie.

Y1d-colander-hatchet.jpg

The knives - I like that the Western had the saw blade:

Y1b-knives-wetersn-H-roselli.jpg

The H. Roselli is Finnish made, and I was shocked at their prices! I believe this to be a "carpenters knife" the Blade is VERY thick, I'd seen some of Timm's wood handled finds, and decided a buck was a good risk. Both need some cleanup.

Y1c-H-Roselli.jpg

Second stop, an estate sale, was even better!

I fount 2 kitchen style drawers in the garage full of gun cleaning stuff, and cherry picked: The Kroil can is near empty, but once I find a tight cap I can refill that from my gallon can. Hoppes and the MIL-L-644A green can is for lubricating and protecting small arms, fuze mechanisms, and for general aircraft applications where a low-temperature, water-displacing lubricant is needed. band-Aid can with nails will get cleaned and put back to original use, Outers patches, the gun cleaning kit appears unused, Mitchell 300 - pretty sure - large reel spool, can opener,...

E1-Iols-G-clean-BA-box-bamboo-C-opener-Mitchell.jpg

Hand made tongs, - even still have the bend marks on the metal, Sheltom ratcheting too. complete this time! Cleaning brush - needs cleaning - Hi pressure hose nozzle, Copper pipes and the longer one has a complete Brown and Sharp inside mic set wrapped in an oily rag as a bonus I found at home!

E2-Tongs-Copper-brush-Shelton-B-S.jpg

LARGE sharpening stone; 2 sided - Behr Manning - Norton, in a die cast metal case (mag or aluminum?, and those nasty looking compound SS flush clippers.

E3-behr-Manning-Norton-SS-flush-clippers.jpg

Proto, Armstrong and (wartime?) SK ratchets, Perfect handle driver, L long C socket and I have not found a makers mark on the L handle.

E4-Proto-Arm-SK-rats-Prf-handle-L-long-C.jpg

Williams (2 of them) Vaughn, Barcalo, Indestro, and Long C wrenches:

E5-williams-vaugn-Barcalo-Indestor-Long-C.jpg

Fuller dykes, Diamalloy Linemans, Crescent (X2) pliers, and Vacugrip (SO) dykes. And all in at the estate sale for $20!:

Fuller-Vacugrip-Crescent-Diamally.jpg

Two small TOO stops got the Plvmb combo ($1) and some German made bandage Suture scissors, for cents fifty.

Y3-Plvmb-Y5-Surgical-scissors.jpg

And another good one I'm still sorting through, is the 6 (not 7) drawer machinists box, with mostly jewelry making stuff, for $30 all.

I know a similar box was posted recently, but I can't remember the make that was determined.

box has no markings I have found as yet - book is a 1926 one on Metalcraft and jewelry:

Incomplete but: Wood handled Driver & Spintite, 2 mini vises, DNA burner, book, DNA torch, and mini USC for drafting pens,

Interesting. Any details on use?
perfect handle ball peen hammer.
Nice!
I also found this 3/4 drive Plomb ratchet and PIT box for $15. Then rolled out a Unisaw for $150. I've already cleaned it up and painted it.

Neighbor texts me the other day- hey do you want some old tools?? My response- yes! ( man he knows me well). So he said he would bring them over. I always say yesterday when people ask me. Most of the time I get junk old obsolete tools or stuff that's more modern but I never turn down an offer because you never know what will come of it. Well this time it paid off! Got these 2 sets for free 99....the sk is cool but I will probably give to my son for a first tool set. The Williams set on the other hand, will stay with me! The ratchet is snap on midget but the sockets and hinge handle are Williams.

Today, I had to work. Not my most favorite activity on a Saturday but I made the best of it. While sitting at my desk and working through various work activities, I perused FMB intermittently in between sulking and sipping my coffee. I noticed a killer looking sale and sent it to my wife...unfortunately she was occupied and not able to go. A while later for some reason I checked the photos again and much to my excitement I spotted something that has been a bit of a unicorn. Last one I saw was 4 years ago and my friend/fellow forum member ran me up on eBay before he eventually won the item :) I messaged the seller and asked if he would hold it for me if I paid.... $10 later and it was mine. Dual marked Plvmb/Prvtv 3/8 drive socket box with very nice (albeit, crooked) water slide decal. The white thing on the decal is spider web and will come off. I picked it up on my way home from work. I also found this T handle ww2 shovel and this other socket box with miscellaneous Plomb/herbrand sockets and this cool Cornell carb tuning tool. Paid $50 total

There were finally a few sales listed in the Tahoe area and we managed to go to the least productive ones first, unfortunately. I picked up two aluminum bars at the first sale for some unknown reason. IMG_3460.jpeg
The second sale was in Meyers and we found some extension cords, Wiss snips and my wife found a couple of items.

IMG_3463.jpeg

The next sale was my favorite and we should have gone there first as they had a large free table which apparently had been picked over before we arrived. We still found a few free pieces. IMG_3461.jpeg
Here are the various things we found. IMG_3459.jpeg
A very lightly used Drill Doctor 300,

IMG_3481.jpeg

A new looking mityvac.IMG_3480.jpeg
Old Crescent wrenches, 1942 8” Ridgid pipe wrench, pre-lever Vise Grips.IMG_3474.jpegIMG_3466.jpegIMG_3473.jpeg
Continued below.

Picked this 'Tangmaster' tool up for £2 at my local car boot sale this morning. I've never seen one before and didn't know exactly what it was for and nor did the seller. I can find no previous mention of it on this forum.

I now know that it is a tool for 'automatically' releasing Morse taper chucks or drills from a drill press or lathe. The tool is inserted into the release slot and the handle pushed down which slides the thinner top part up the slope and thus widening the wedge. I have now tested it and it is very effective. Very pleased to have got it for the bargain price. :)

Also got this wood rim steering wheel at the car boot sale this morning. I knew that it was a nice one, but didn't know how nice until I got home and did some research. It's a 15" Les Leston brand made by Walsall Wheels Ltd, England, probably dates from the early 1970's. These seem to sell for about £200 and I now feel slightly guilty for having my offer of £10 quickly accepted.

It's been awhile, yard sales here are turning into used clothes garbage. Just picked this stuff up for work for $10. I use the he'll out of robot grips. I was going to use the offset ratchet wrenches, but I may end up reselling them.

Same here. Not even clothes that I want. There's always some really crappy kitchen gear, too.

The kitchen gear is usually crappy…

I try to find All-Clad, Wusthof (German only), Global, Sabatier (French only)…

It is rare to run anything I actually want.

As far as clothes. I like the higher end stuff that the baby boomers and greatest generation had. They dressed nicer than the generations after them. The problem is, those guys were tiny. I rarely fit in the higher end vintage clothes (vintage Pendleton…).

Since I don’t resell tools or buy things I don’t think that I will ever use, it is getting harder to tools that I need. It is mostly SAE and Craftsman around here. I am down to a pretty small list of “needs”.

It’s getting to the point where it would probably be cheaper to buy the few things left on my list at retail. I still enjoy the hunt, so I’m not there yet…

It’s a numbers game. It’s much easier to find a lot of tools that you will actually use at the beginning of your collection. Once you have the vast majority of the tools you will ever need, the gas money can cost more than the tools you buy. I’m not done yet, but I’m not finding as much. I need a honey hole… I haven’t had a big score in way too long.

I went back to the estate sale for half price day and picked up a few more things. Six by 48 belt sander on a custom stand was $40. I think it was a drill press. Chain falls is 500 lbs. Wilton vise has broken jaw inserts but otherwise good. Full bottle of argon, Milwaukee buffer, Diamond polishing disk set goes from 50 grit to 8000, plumbers torch, Allied socket set, 790 cca battery two years old and holding a full charge. All of these were $10 each. Then in the back I found this Lortone 6" trim saw that had never been used. $100. Got my *** out before I bought the place out.

Went to a big neighborhood sale on Saturday. Lots of sales but not great inventory. I did get these Ray-Ban Predator 2 polarized glasses for $10. When I paid he said he only wore them twice and were too narrow for his head. Over $230 on Amazon right now. I did the YouTube check for authenticity and they’re real!IMG_2341.jpeg
Today on the way home from the store I sign for a sale on my street. This Troybuilt pressure washer was in the free pile. He said the neighbor kid was using it and it quit. He didn’t want to deal with it and bought a new one. Got it home and it was out of gas!!!! Fired one pull! Cleaned up nicely. Runs great has lots of power.IMG_2339.jpegIMG_2340.jpeg

Yeah, YOUSUCK on that one

and at 2800 PSI that will peel paint real well, so be careful! My little electric is 1100 PSI ot old one was either 12 or 1400.

For cleanup, more than adequate,

I went to the Flea Market just to say Hi to some friends and to walk around in the sun
It was nice to see the friendly Sellers and a couple of Buyers that I know....

Not looking for anything...but I spied this ole Craftsman cab
the Seller kept dropping his price
OK. Sold
He would have kept dropping his price, but I thought enough is enough :ROFLMAO:

Klein for a buck a piece

and a Delta Mortise attachment that's brand new unused
I do not believe the box has ever been opened
The Seller joked....don't you want to open that box??
.......because who knows......there might be rocks in there instead of the attachment

For 5 bucks, I said I'll use the rocks to fill gopher holes :ROFLMAO:

Picked up at an estate auction on Friday. 4.5 inch Wilton with a 4 inch made in Japan vise with it. Probably should have left it lay, but I just couldn't. It's my first Wilton. It'll be a good "winter project".1000002798.jpg

Stopped at the Weil Antique Center parking lot flea market…and it is gone! I think I heard they were moving, but haven’t tracked them down yet.

Not the coolest find but the local downtown pharmacy that's been around since the barber still pulled teeth sold out to the hospital so they were liquidating the general store and everything the hospital didn't want so the new cross fit gym could strip the building and get opened by spring 2026.

I needed a desk for upstairs and seen they had one on their advert for the sale that looked to be the right size(my office desk is too deep for anything practical, probably since it was from the beginning of the computing era and would've held a giant CRT).

So I ended up getting it with the chair for $50 plus an electric blood pressure cuff my doctor wanted me to get anyhow. It spent a few months on the shop floor while I was busy but it turned out to be a good fit once I finally got it moved. I ended up learning every pinch point on the stairs too which was fun, getting my feet pinned because of the low ceiling and trying to get around the turn getting pinned against the wall.

So it turns out to be a 1950s tanker desk(no branding) with matching chair(Hamilton Cosco). Looked it up and I seen I'd be a happy man if I lived in New York where a guy would've been trying to figure out how to get it to a 20th floor suite for $200 while I'd be walking away with up to $2000 apparently but I don't live in an area where the maximum workload of a desk would be a Mac laptop with some accounting software so it's worth around the $50 as far as I'm concerned. It's nice to imagine but I'm happy just using it.

Also patent on chair since it's 1950s over-engineered mechanisms I'm trying to decipher.

Part 2:
Also got a 2017 Snap On FHL80 from a Facebook estate sale photo dump(76 pics of random piles of stuff marked with "make offer") for $30. Asked about it and guy said make an offer so I decided to be careful and start at my low figuring I'd have to haggle assuming he'd eBay search it since he'd done the same with other listings and meet at around $60 just to be met with "I'll take it. When can you meet?" and a prompt delivery to my door the next day.

Pics below because I ended up accidentally writing an essay. Tried the ratchet out after cleaning and greasing it so the socket is still on in the pics. Didn't do too well but it'll be good for smaller/normal 3/8 stuff. Also added two extensions since I needed a scale(42" by 12", ignore the tape measure I wanted to use the ratchet as scale).

Great score, but be warned those 4 leg chairs are very easy to go over backwards rolling back...

Is that one of those work efficiency designs? Keep them at the desk longer by fear of scooting back too fast.

Thing has a bunch of comfort features. Looks like it even reclines but figuring out how everything works is much more difficult than a modern chair. I still don't know if it has a hydraulic riser or if it's fully mechanical. Looks to have a angle lockdown bracket to lock position but haven't messed with it too much and patent isn't obvious either on some functions.

Some have a "bounce" feature for leaning back. The one I had was a mechanical screw for lifting. The handles on the desk look distinctive enough to ID a maker if desired. Doesn't match General Fireproofing or Steelcase, from examples I have seen.

It looks like it has the bounce and an actual recline position lock pin system from the patent pics but I could be wrong. Lever has to do something but till I mess with it I'm lost. Either way probably shouldn't sit while I do it in case it's actually a disconnect or something. Could also just be to shift centre of balance back which might be more likely although still confusing.

It'd be kinda interesting to find info on the desk but I'm not sure where a starting point would be. I think I've seen a couple that were identical(the overpriced city pieces, one stripped and polished which didn't look particularly bad) but they were listed just as tankers. I'll see about if tanker groups exist when I get a chance but I haven't looked into the tanker fandom scene yet.

Patent below if you want to look at the pics
