  • The specific model 4800-SD comes in a 3 inch x 4 inch size, meaning it adapts a 3 inch PVC DWV/SCH40 pipe to a 4 inch S&D pipe.
Looks like that is an adapter for 3" sch40 to a 4" s&d (sdr type)

A. Yes, you can bury a Fernco.

B. Your adaptor is for Sch 40 to SDR. You will probably need to go to a plumbing supply warehouse to get a true Sch 40 3x4 adaptor. I believe the Nibco part is 4618. And it is a bushing adaptor, not a coupler.

C. Menards SKU: 6895780 is what I would use.

4" SCH80 Coupling (Female), 4" x 3" PVC Reducer Bushing (SCH40), then 3" SCH40 Pipe or Coupling

If you're concerned about pressure rating or mechanical fit, you can order SCH80-specific bushings online, but SCH40 parts are often fine for drainage or low-pressure setups.

Menards carries DWV reducing couplings, SKU 6892076

I wouldn't bother with a sch. 80 coupling, just use a 4x3 DWV coupling. This is just for the waste line connection at the septic tank. I'm surprised he is using sch. 80 PVC, I've only seen sch. 80 PVC used for underground drain/waste once and the engineer specified it due to traffic loading.

I think the issue is that the OP has purchased a 4"SDR (around sch. 10) x 3" sch adapter as other posters mentioned. The receptor drawing posted above shows it to have a 4" Sch 40 outlet. Both 4" Sch 40 and Sch 80 have a 4.5" outer diameter, so the hubs would fit each other. OP just needs to get a 4" sch x 3" sch reducer.

If using a Furnco check your local codes, Many require shielded couplers to be used underground.

Edit: Didn't look at the above sku initially, but we are both basically saying the same thing.... (OP has miss-identified the outlet as sch. 80 due to buying the incorrect part and needs a sch x sch reducer)

No eat I'd put a fernco rubber coupling underground as a permanent fitting.
Some may do it . Idk.
Unless it was a last resort then no.

There is a correct fitting in most every place you look. It's a common fitting.

Eta

The new auto correct is worse than the old one.

Eat = way
