I have an acre to seed. I am not very physically capable right now

I just want to get some cover crop / food plot seed down to cut down the mowing.

We have a couple of Scott's seeders. But abused them, by using them for fertilizer.

They're ok for a little patch but we pushed them too hard

I thought about trying to make something out of a Dewalt or Milwaukee battery drill.

The pull behind spreader is said to not work well because of the tiny seeds involved.

I am amazed that this is a thing.

Couple different ones available.

I just found some on a Google search.

Back when we bought the Scott's they were all that was available.

Any thoughts on which one to buy?
I haven't started reading the reviews.

Being able to use it with fertilizer would be a huge bonus.

I think the Scott's would have been fine for just seeds

No clue. I hate lawn.

Worx is a known brand. I've had good luck with my electric 10" pole pruner and 16" chainsaw

If you're going to use it a lot, get something that uses a battery that can be replaced.
A lot of this chicom stuff uses an internal or custom battery and they are basically throw away when it dies.

For an acre, I'd look into hiring the work out. It's a one time expense but it may be worth it considering your condition.
I tried that. I can't anybody to hire. I wanted to hire someone to plant sunflowers and sweetcorn on the scre, early in the year.

I have some mechanical work. Nothing terribly complicated, that I would pay to have done.

If you know anybody trustworthy, close enough to Clifton illinois. send them my way.

I had a guy helping me sometimes. But I didn't think he was knowledgeable enough to leave on his own.
I pushed too hard to take advantage of help and ended up down for months- combined with chemo really kicking my ***. As it is now. I'm not sweating properly, get overheated and can go down the tubes rather quickly.
My wife had to drive the car to the edge of the yard and pick me up one time. I wss only making it about 25' at a try and had another 100 yards to go.
I frequently carry a light duty aluminum lawn chair so I can sit wherever

For an acre, i wouldnt use a hand spreader. I've had good luck with Scotts spreaders in the past so if you want a cheap one, i'd pick up another. Now i use a Spyker spreader which i've been relatively happy with and is much better than a Scotts.

If price is a concern, ignore what I'm about to post.

I sure would like one of those robots big enough to cover 8 acres or so.
I need to get some projects done around here first

We killed our Scotts battery spreader with fertilizer. They just aren't heavy duty enough for fertilizer.

We have a 160 lb pull behind. It doesn't work well with small seed like food plot & cover crop.

It works better if the seed is mixed with potash, pelletized lime & / or fertilizer. About 150 lbs per acre.
I'd definitely go that route, but I'm not up to mixing the seed and fertilizer.

The small seed still tends to settle to the bottom

Right now we can't get the little tractor or anything else out of the shed until I get the fuel tank changed on the backhoe. I'm not up to mixing the seed and fertilizer anyway.

I'm not hardly up to spreading the seed with an electric had spreader

I don't go out at all. I quit sweating, several weeks ago
It's kind of dangerous
I can go out for short bits
But I overdo it almost every time. It takes me hours to recover.

I ordered one of these. I don't know when I'll be able to use it. I can't be outside for very long at a time.

My first choice would be to hire someone and get some stuff done. That hasn't worked out.

How about a seeder that straps around your neck that you crank.
My hands and feet have peeled. They're very tender.
I have a couple hand seeders
I thought the electric seeder might be faster and I don't have much time

One acre a day, done in just over a week.

Farmer down the road has some kind of solar powered weed sprayer. I'm sure the robot spreaders are coming. 20 years and no one will be mowing anymore, their roomba style mowers will be doing all the work. I love mowing, but still want a robot to do inside my fence and around the grandkids swing set. Plus having a robot mow my lawn while I'm at work frees up a hour or so a week to enjoy the pool.

It takes us about 8 hours
