Suckage to all of yous:
Some nice scores guys!
This morning I left the house a bit late, but with a plan to go to the tiny flea market.
I only made it to the corner when I spotted a yard sale sign on the next block. Something told me to check it out.
I pull up to the house with the sign and see one small table of stuff out back.Another sign read “More stuff inside”. Things were looking up. It was about 8:30 and the sale looked dead. I pulled into the next driveway to make 3 pt turn and park. Suddenly a work truck comes barreling down the street before I can even back out. I assumed they were passing through but no, they slam to a stop facing the wrong way exactly where I was about to park.
Two guys jump out of the truck and rush into the backyard. I was slightly irritated but parked and followed in behind them.
No one in the backyard. Just a table of misc. household stuff, and the guys hustled to it. I saw a sign “Just walk in” by the back door. I opened the door with the two guys right on my heels. I was greeted by two nice older ladies who said come on in and a room full of household goods and collectibles for sale.
My eyes shot around the room and stopped on a big tray of tools at about shin height right in front of me. Big neon green sign read “.50 each”. As I’m bending to look, the two guys barely through the door behind me, I see a Snap-On ratchet handle buried in the mix. No way! Here? Knowing I needed to act quick or step aside, I blurted out “How much for the whole thing?” One lady jokingly says 100 bucks. The other says, “Hmmm, $8.”. SOLD! I wasn’t playing around with those bozos after they tried to beat me out.
The one guy asked if there were any more tools. The lady said no that’s all they had and the guys immediately split. I thought they might go mess up my car.I felt slightly bad but hey, I got to them first.
Anyway, it was almost all ladies stuff. My wife and I went back this afternoon and dropped 25 bucks on some nice clothes and jewelry for her. The women were super nice and prices cheap. I think she left with about 20 items.
A further look through the tray of tools and I was quite happy! Turned out to be a long Snap-On 1/4” ratchet, several extensions, an S-K extension, Blue-Point screwdrivers and socket driver, hiding in there too! Others are Craftsman, Stanley, Commercial Electric, Vaco, Gearwrench, Diehard, Klein,etc.. I made a good quick decision for once. The flea market after yielded nothing, but the sale certainly surprised.

Monthly Col Flea for me today. Hot day too. so a few sellers didn't show, but others made up for it in volume. It didn't matter - slow day overall there for me, but a nice score in one case made up for that.
7-1/2 lbs of Cerro Bend low temp casting/fill alloy -I believe mostly bismuth. This stuff will melt in boiling water easily. Cost me $20. it retails for that per pound generally, so I'm happy. this stuff would probably really help for bending odd-ball bent lantern genny's.
and a Irwin Bell System marked #3 Phillips driver for a buck:
Off to Estate sale #1:
Spent $15 but:
2 large Jorgensen/Made by Adjustable Clamp co. (after the buyout/merger) Wood clamps:
And - taking the hose nozzle collecting in a different direction - 2 Fire hose nozzles, a hydrant wrench (I have others in bronze) Craftsman ignition wrench, and a Proto driver.
First yard sale just outside a dud of a block sale:
I saw this: and opened it:
Hated the rust, but flipped the ratchet and saw long C Craftsman and took it, I added the 3 bigger tools from the $1 table and she added 2 for the box and constants. $5 out the door - Rust mitigation starts today...
Another YS, a TOO, and this surfaced for another $5:
Spintite set, another Fire hose nozzle, with adapters, a Robertson drive driver, and some odd cutters - more on those later.
The Robertson is stamped on the shank:
ROBERTSON CO. LIMITED
MINTON ONT. CANADA
SOCKET SCREWS No. 4, 5, 6
PAT'D IN CANADA 1933
I'm really happy with this find, I have a few Robertson drivers, and have made some - started that way - this is my first from the company itself and I'm guessing its early!
On the odd cutters - Somewhat of a "whatzit" - I figured it out - any guesses?
And off to the last Estate sale: "everything is a dollar! even furniture!" - I'm guessing they had a horde there at opening, but the leavings were decent:
First thing I picked up an LP Coleman 5120 - my second - I should buy one of the adapters... vent is perfect!:
Globe is not - I've never seen a globe crack 'internally" - neither end goes to an edge!
Ordinarily I pass on unmarked axes these days, but I suspect there ARE markings under this because the haft IS marked "Wards" - I've been experimenting with heat on rust for rust bluing conversion (take something like this and boil it, and it converts and with "carding" you get a nice blued surface) I've been having good luck heating with a torch? Not sure water is needed, but boiling water is likely safer that a torch for some things (like gun barrels...) to avoid warping
An apparently NOS Corner clamp and a NOT NOS heat diffuser, but I was looking into these after a post about keeping direct flame off the Pyrex "flame ware" and I'm watching for Pyrex coffee pot for the ladies of the house...
And a "cooling rack" I'm planning on making into an oven stand for a Coleman oven on top of a single burner stove like a 400 series with nice "simmering" adjustment. can also be used for a light weight campfire grill

Scorching morning walk at the bootsale today, scored well too! So what did I get?
8” adjustable Bahco wrench is SAAB branded (I’ve seen Volvo ones before) and has a tyre lever cast into the end of it. Mine for a paltry £1 ($1.35). The 10” Eclipse Sheffield made saw blades were double that for the bunch!
The compact Record drill vice I’m very pleased with as it seems a very rarely or carefully used vice. Just a few marks on the face. Model 412 and dimensions as shown. Barcode on the box (but no website address) so at a guess between the early 80’s and the late 90’s when Irwin took over.
£10 ($13.50) firm and I was happy to pay that.

Found this Millers Falls 701 yesterday and couldn’t let it sit. This is absolutely pristine and for all intents, never used. These may be actually made by Goodell-Pratt as I’ve seen some wartime literature on how they saved time & increased production by putting the decimals on the thimble. Either way, proud to add this mic to my collection. Very light and incredibly smooth movement.

I snagged this very nice GE vintage fridge on marketplace for FREE. Thanks to the guy before me that wasted his time. It was bought new around the 40s he said and been in the same place in the basement ever since. He had already brought it up for the previous guy lol. I just backed up and loaded it up. Does anyone know if you have to wait to plug these in after they have been on their side??? I’m waiting to plug it in. I can already taste the garage beers!![]()
First solid score of the year. Delta/rockwell skill saw with stand. Was a free find on FBMP. Goal is to get it cleaned up and running.
I picked these items today at an Estate Sale for $20. When I walked into the garage, I saw a mirror that looked like the passenger mirror for my 62 Impala. Mine is floppy. Sure enough it was and I just went from there.
