What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Not really "IN" yet. I called around today to get contractors that will do spray foam insulation in my 30x60 garage. I only want the roof done. I'm not sure how this price stacks up but I was told to do the foam on the roof only would cost me $5k. With the outside temperature at 90 AND an exhaust fan pulling the air out of the gable end peak the temperature inside the garage was still 98 degrees! I need something to knock the heat down. I think this will help. I'm just not sure about the price. I'm getting ready to install another fan in the other gable end.
As far as I can tell, the only real advantage of spray-foam is as a near-100% vapor barrier--which matters a great deal in cold climates, but not in hot (unless you're building a cooler). Reflectix over fiberglass batt with a ventilation channel between the Reflectix and the roof deck would be my call. Foil-faced rigid foam sheets over (under?) the rafters with eve and ridge venting would do wonders.

Finally, got those rusted ******* bracket bolts out. Impact gun would not touch the top one. Sometimes you have to get creative, and hope for the best. I turned the jack with my impact gun, and kept my distance just in case. 2 1/2 hours to get 2 bolts out. Mercy.

I thought I might rebuild that caliper, but I'm not going to have time I have to get the back wheel off next, and then start hauling wood. Maybe this winter I'll rebuild it. Always wanted to try that. Kits are cheap enough.

If that's what I think it is (Ford PSD) don't bother with that caliper. Just go get a fresh one from the vendor of your choice, and throw that one in the box for a core. I had one seize on my '04 (CA truck), and broke the SS ring off the top of the phenolic piston trying to extract it. Not worth the time.

I read that as Ford PTSD on first glance--from which I suffer.

Converted an old (well, 1980s) dealership sign from tube to LED on a budget. £16 worth of single LED strip. I didn’t tend to light this up previously but now with its own remote control and various dimming functions etc, I’ll occasionally flip it on for some background lighting as I have a Peugeot of that period in the background. Who can guess what it is.

As the strip is around the perimeter the centre is ever so slightly duller, however the photo makes it look much worse and the white plastic carries it quite well and I’m happy with it as it’s now functional and cheap to run.

And here's a quarter section of one of the more challenging partsIMG_0451.jpg
All formed cold. All high strength steel - 60 or 70 KSI Min tensile. 2.5mm (0.098") to 3.4mm (0.134").

If you have a Ford, GM, Stellantis, Nissan, Toyota, John Deere, Cat or many others, you have our parts in your vehicles.

Man, I do NOT miss the pressure.

While I was building the pull out trays for my latest project, I found it useful to improvise a right angle jig to hold the side pieces square while assembling the tray.

I first used the fence from my drill press table and the extension fence from my miter saw bench.
This worked, but was fussy to set up for each drawer. Also easy knock out of square.

I decided to try and make a couple of fences that used the dog holes to speed up the process.
Originally planned to make them out of wood. But then I found the red fences that I think will work better.
I bought a couple of 8” (the 14” were sold out) extruded aluminum fences the were being cleared out for $8 apiece.

Unfortunately when I built my bench 20 years ago I had no idea what distance to space my dog holes. Hindsight, I wish I had made the holes 6” apart instead of 8”.
Over the years I’ve added more holes as needed.

Yesterday I started to add a series of holes between the existing 8” spacing.
IMG_5703.jpeg
I made a spacer jig to reference off the existing holes and locate two of the new holes at a time

So far this is working well. 109 yesterday afternoon when I bailed on the project for the day.

Isn't pressure necessary for cold-forming?

Trick question, the mirror distorts it. Not that I would know 1 Peugeot from another.lol I’ll say a 504.

Today I was able to make my wife happy...
Awhile back a thread posted on GJ described some rollerblade casters...
I ordered 5 of them and replaced the double wheel 2" casters on my Herman Miller Aeron chair... They were pretty shot...
Perfect fit.. Super improvement...
My wife uses a Steelcase caster chair that has a hard time rolling around... Same 2" type double wheel casters...
Searching on Amazon did not bring up the rollerblade caster without the stem attachment... All of them had the standard stem...
I got some DOM mild steel tube with a 3/8" ID 3/4" OD x 1-1/8" long and bored out a 7/8" depth opening up the 3/8" to 7/16"...
This left a small section with the 3/8" ID to fit the chair stem that I partially removed...
IMG_5041.jpg
Cut the stems on the chair base...
IMG_5042.jpg
A little MIG welding the spacers on the swivel chair base...
And a splash of paint...
IMG_5043.jpg
Finished...

Yesterday I finally dismembered an old PC tower to recover various parts and the HDD. (2 TB!)

Also started fabricating parts to modify the clamp on lantern hook for my "camp flagpole" (I goofed the last mod somehow as it didn't fit right)- today is to hot to be welding...

Completed getting things out of the van from camping, that are not staying there, and got it out of the drive way, giving SWMBO's spot back.

Today was busy so far - mostly; smalls:

Disassembled metal bits off of some salvaged hardwood bed frame parts,

Cleaned the deck off of leaves,

Re-bent my "tie & suspenders hanger" so it no longer addresses ties, (all but 2 ties are gone and those moved..) so it fits the remaining suspenders, carry straps, and ankle straps plus one angle flashlight better without sagging.

Reorganized the "oil change" shelf and fit a new load of oil jugs, lost the old parts for the old villager we no longer have from off it, and got 5 gallons of oil jugs off the floor in the house from Monday's WM oil run.

Extracted 6 wood dowels from the loose slats on a folding wood chair I picked up that i'm liking for camping. very compact folded, light and was comfortable at ocean cove then regulated the slats and soon as that is dry, I'll drill one size larger dowels and get those in. I may add brads from the nail gun brad nailer. - I was going to re-glue it at Ocean Cove, but had not planned on those dowels!

Put tools and stuff away.

Ordered a replacement hub assmebly for the 2015 ram 2500 from Amazon due to the local dealers charging more than list price for the part. Replaced the assembly and wouldnt you know it I smashed the ABS wire while not paying enough attention to driving the the caliper bracket bolt in. DOH!... Pulled the old sensor off the old part and put it on the new one. Also found one of the lug studs was bent. Drove out an old one and installed it on the new one. Lisle Wheel Stud install tool for the win on that one. Got it put back together and test drove. Short drive last night and will drive farther today to make sure no codes get set for the ABS sensor.

More like in the kitchen.

I hate that not one, but two orders are delayed.

First off, my cable sleeve is delayed by a day which ***** because I had just started on them a little bit ago.

20250821_095811.jpg

20250821_102431.jpg

But now the adjustable feet for the shelf I need to weld up are delayed by two days.

Means I'll have to focus on cutting parts today and do other work in preparation of.

Thinking I'll cut out the 6 feet bottoms as well as an additional 10 mounts for the butcher block top.

It's why my arms are at his hips :ROFLMAO:

Although he did sit on the stool for a good bit doing the 1-2 lesson on each drum

How's his double bass footwork coming along? :lol_hitti

That's awesome! I played the drums for about 15 years. Bought myself all the Metallica and Godsmack books I could find, and taught myself for the most part.

I'll add an update to this - his lesson went well but for anyone that has kids, they'll all say that children mimic their parents!

So I actually signed myself up for drum lessons starting the first week of September. I only played for a short bit but that was over 15-20 years ago.

Without ever receiving the proper instruction, I'm sure I picked up some bad habits. But starting all over again after so many years means I'll learn the right way.

He'll get to come in and watch sometimes, or simply watch me at home when I practice which would let me show him proper steps I learned.

We all agreed it'll be more effective for him to learn the very basics at home, and pay for lessons for him at around 3 years old.

I took my last two days of vacation time off and spent them in my garage. I wired in 12/2 for some switch operated outlets and then in the outlets, I put Harbor Freight Braun brand shop lights (10 @ 5500 lumens each :shocking:) and brought light into my formerly dim garage. Before, I had four lights powered by extension cords and plugged into some sketchy wiring.
