Looking for help with an old Red Lion Cement Mixer (model RLX 3, a 3-1/2 Cubic Feet Multi-Purpose Mixer). I have one and it has the all metal mixer tub (instead of the plastic tubs they use now. I got it from a guy a few years ago who "thought" he got it from Harbor Freight years earlier. Anyway, nothing happens when you plug it in. I would like to fix it up and get it going again (we have some little concrete jobs around here coming up so) so I would love not to have to rent or buy one again. Apparently this unit is pretty old and I can't even find an owners manual or parts list for this mixer anywhere on the internet.

Hoping somebody here will have some knowledge and experience with this old mixer (I know there's also a Red Lion RLX 6) mixer that looks the same so I'm guessing that mixer is probably the same with either a different motor or drum capacity. I called the number on the Model Number tag and they are clueless.

Again, let me say thanks in advance to all who assist and offer help, advice, and suggestions

Never pulled a motor off a shaft before, usually deal with motors powering a tool with a belt. Can't be too dificult but I imagine I'll need some kind of gear puller to get it off the shaft? Thoughts?

You might be able to look at the wiring without pulling the motor off. Remove the cover and see if you can check the wires. They could be broken, stripped, etc. Check the connections and take a small, soft, brass wire wheel to them to clean them up. Also, clean the motor with electrical contact spray. I had an old motor that wouldn't work, but it fired right up after I cleaned it.

I can't tell if this has a start capacitor, but that could be bad. I have a motor place nearby that I can take these to and get parts, and they diagnose problems as well. Good luck!

I don't suppose you happen to have come across an owners manual for the mixer? I know these type of mixers need to be lubed but where and and with what I'm not sure. Also, do you have any pictures of the 6 bolts and nuts & locations (that you removed)? I really need to get this old thing going and certainly can't afford a new mixer. Any and all help is appreciated.

Great News! I think... I had to roll the mixer, over some rocks and bumps, across the yard to a better place to work. First I got a screwdriver and started removing all the built up gunk on the gear wheel teeth (attached to the end of the motor that turns the bucket). Anyway, there's still more I could remove but for laughs and giggles I plugged it in. I fully expected it to do nothing as it did before, or to pop the GFCI breaker. Instead it worked!! There is a sticker on the machine that says to lubricate or oil every 6 hours of use... but without an owners manual, or previous experience, I am not sure what lubricant to use, and / or where it goes. Does anyone here know if it take wheel grease on the geared wheel and the drum teeth? Does it take special oil on the shaft on the end of the bucket? Sorry to be such a newbie but thanks again for all the advice and suggestions

Question on a red lion RLX-3 mixer since I can't find a manual online. See my attached pic. I have a hole which I assume is where a grease fitting used to be on the side closest to the motor. Between the motor and the mixing bowl. Can you tell me based on everyone's knowledge if this is a grease fitting (that has fallen out or broke) or is this where people have talked about adding some oil to? Still works well and just wanted to try and maintain it. Thanks for any assistance.

48Y denotes a special frame. It could be anything to do with the mount. You could take it off and compare with a standard 48 frame drawing. You will find frame mount drawings on the Grainger website. It might just be a matter of drilling some holes.

I had been looking for a Red Lion concrete model RL3 for a few months and finally found one on Facebook for $75.00. I picked it up from 100 miles away from home. The man who sold it to me wants to clean out his garage. Everything is running well, and I finished restoring it. You keep looking at the market with patience, and you will find it.

Hey there! I loosened the 4 long skinny bolts that keep the motor attached to the "box" the drive chain is housed in and 4 small nuts fell to the ground and I have no idea where they go and how to get the motor screwed back on to the frame. The motor is totally detached from the mixer
. Recently I lost both legs from the knees down and thought this project would be relatively easy while temporarily in a wheelchair, I could scour, sand, paint etc...redo the whole thing just as easy as standing.
it's been going good till this motor nonsense, I must've tried 100 times to reattach it and I'm about to give up.
Do you by any chance remember how you reattached the motor? Even a sketch of where the nuts & the long bolts go if you don't have pics or manual.
I would surely appreciate any help with this. Thanks, Rick P

Hello. The four long bolts do two jobs. The first is it hold the casing of the motor together. Second is the remainder of the threads ( which is maybe 1/2 in. Or so ) of each bolt goes thru the gear housing.or the box as you call it. On the inside of the housing those four small nuts go on the end of those four long bolts that poked thru and are to be tightened. Those nuts that get treaded on to the long bolts on the inside of the chain gear housing is what holds the motor in place. The must be tight with no movement by the motor or you will have problems when it runs.
