hello:

I was given a medium sized rotary vane compressor. 220volt 18 cfm @ 15 psi.
I have no understanding of this type.
I cant run air tools on it due to low PSI. BUT can I spray paint? I am thinking the high cfm is good?
should I add a tank to it? Its just the pump now. dont see why a tank would help.

any advice appreciated.

its an industrial compressor. not made specifically for spraying. but I would call it High Volume Low Pressure. didnt know if anyone has used or seen one.

I have a gast rotary vane pump that is used for a fresh air delivery respirator. Not sure how this particular pump (if that's what you have) could be used for HVLP painting wouldn't you need some sort of bleed-off valve since it runs continously with no tank/reservoir?

well it does have a max psi of 15. i would think that is a bleedoff valve of sorts.

I'd call that a blower--HVLP or air knife.

Ok, completely in line with what @Beerhippie says, industrial applications. Having the Brand names makes it so much easier, check out uses classes down page.
