Estate sale ($32): CVA Philadelphia derringer kit (45 cal. blackpowder, nib); Tyco lego phone; Tomoe soroban; 1/2" snap on socket; 18" hog splitter cleaver; Daisy 1000 (Rogers, AR); Daise 25 bb gun (Plymouth, MI - Plastic Stock Var. 8)

This one was a real digger. Thought the derringer was a model and was surprised that when I got home that it will actually might come in handy next time I'm riverboat gambling. The soraban is neat as it's frame is made of ebony, rods are bamboo and the beads are spruce. The cleaver stamp is largely lost, but it ends in "NA". The Daisy 1000 turns out to be produced for Western Auto. The Daisy 25 is a cork gun, which is cool [update not a cork gun, just missing the shot tube]. The really odd things about the bb guns is that gave them a little oil and they both fired up. Go figure.

Agree - BMW ***** on the magnifier Dazor.

CT I Had a pump like you found when I was growing up. one of many things that were "handed down" to other families when I "grew out of it" (after all once you have a hunting licence and use real guns, who needs a BB gun? :wtf: )

Agreed. Cork gun season is pretty short here in Iowa and honestly it doesn't help that it overlaps with the suction cup bow season.

I had a good year and a half of buying knives from estate sales. I ran out of room in my kitchen and bars to store them.

If you have a huge kitchen, you could find an aesthetically pleasing vintage butcher block.

Here is another small haul from the guy emptying the shop. Snuck in briefly Sat before noon, then went back around 4pm yesterday. He is still sorting stuff, so a few items I had he took back, but no biggie. I suspect he will be sitting til the last minute, and a ton of **** will be on the free pile.
L-R, box of 18g galvanized brads, various brands, sizes and styles, look like the all fit my guns. 1/4" chrome vanadium spinner, pliers with an interesting handle pattern, Husky 1/2" drive impact driver, 1/4" hex to 1/4", 3/8" & 1/2" square drive, box of 7/64" inch letters and numbers, 4 casters w brakes, 2x *********** Adjustable Clamps, and an illuminated magnifying glass on an arm, nice in that you can change the angle of the light.

The lady of the house finally opened a bag of craft supplies that she bought at an estate sale a while back. These two "tools" were in with the usual stuff.

The dirty one looks like a bone strapped to a piece of carved wood. The other one is string wrapped and looks newer/not used.

What the heck are these?

Google Lens says a peruvian Carbara fin, used as a necklace, or a hand carved centipede from deer antler. Only looked at the top image

Mislabeled as a Star Wars Stereo poster, picked this up for $5. Bonus points to all of you who have ever used a CED before. We used to rent the machine and movies from a video store the next town over. IMG_1962.jpeg
Very cool piece!! I still collect Laser Discs and still have my Pioneer from when they first came out. I just thrifted a few disc awhile back for $1.99 ea and also scored this as well. It’s now a wall hanger.. :)

Pectoral fin spine from some species of catfish. If the photo link holds, look at the lower left. Plausibly from South America, but who knows?
“Cabara” may be a local name somewhere, or just seller BS.
Looks like the dreaded Candiru...
"Candiru are South American catfish of a parasitic or scavenging niche. The species known as candiru aren't always closely related, though they all are of interest due to their impact on human health (both confirmed and anecdotal)."

Candiru are also about an inch long.

The picture is an armored catfish in the family Loricaridae. The spines shown are also a good fit. If you have a home aquarium, you're probably familiar with the Plecostomus, another member of this family.

Barcalo tack puller, Swiss file set, 4 brass tubes, security Bit set, and a Knapp 1" blade block plane. Just 3 3/16ths long. Aluminum, I'm guessing from a "toy" or "first" wood working set? but have not found any leads

Finger plane! Not a toy, but currently only a specialty tool; anyone can use them, but they're targeted to instrument makers. I guess they used to be a more common general handyman thing.

I'd have thought 30s, but that one is from a good decade later at least:

I just repaired a CED player not that long ago. Good times.

Make sure the correct disc is in there if you decide to sell it. Sometimes they get mixed up, or they are empty.

Todays find at the market, new but dusty, £2 ($2.70) each so I had all three! I couldn't buy one for that price! I can never figure it out when easily searchable price current tools are sold cheapily, but I’m not arguing 😉

(The Bahco is a better grip btw, but far too small for an average hand, my metal handled Hultafors HMM junior is the better as its broader).

Stopped by a garage sale today on my lunch break. Cool guy, retired gunsmith from Colorado, worked for Herters for years before that.

Picked up

* A bag full of US dies, mostly Craftsman with some Ace, and a forged die stock, all SAE

* A bag full of thread chasers, make and female. No visible brand, all SAE, all marked US.

* Several boxes of SAE taps, Butterfield and Standard. All brand new, old enough to have wooden inserts.

* Craftsman brake spoon and Utica brake pliers

* Cal-Van USA spark plug boot pliers

*Craftsman 32oz ball pein

Asking price was $56 for all of it. He told me to make an offer. I had $60, told him to keep the change. Prettt cool stuff that I will keep for myself this time.

Thats some pretty cool stuff! Good on you for the offering price, I would have started at $30, LOL.

(Yes, I'm kidding... OK, $40...)

I got an email yesterday from a local "Earthwise Recycling". They had a double-faced yellow plastic hammer that I thought interesting, so I called them and asked them to hold it for me.
I drove over there earlier today and wandered around their several buildings full of all manner of widgets which have been removed from old homes - everything from doorknobs to drawer pulls to doors to deep freezers.
I found a few loose items that looked interesting.
Then I found a green box that had a mix of stuff in it.
green box 091125 01.jpg
I looked at some of the contents and it looked interesting, so I picked it up and tried to carry it.
It popped open and dumped all kinds of stuff all over my foot. So I carefully picked everything back up and put it back into the box and took it all up to the front counter and asked the man how much I owed him, since nothing had any prices on it.
He gave me a fair price for the lot and I paid him and brought it home.
green box 091125 02.jpg
It was really quite the mixed bag, so I sorted it all out
green box 091125 03.jpg
As with every other used tool box full of stuff, it contained the usual assortment of detritus: black plastic tape, old rusty hardware, and always - always - the sheet metal screws.
green box 091125 04.jpg
The box is the standard tackle box like Dad had with a coat of rattle-can green over the original finish

I got it all sorted out and after tossing out the old faucet washers and broken wheel weights, it looks like it amounts to:
