Over the last couple of days, I’ve seriously toyed with the idea of buying an ego mower or lawn tractor. I know there are a lot of downsides and they are very expensive compared to a gas mower. But the quiet and absence of exhaust appeal to me. I would like to think I rebuilt my last carburetor. I could charge it out at the place of solar. Couldn’t be easier.

I checked out the reviews and read some of the customer service stories. Pretty clear there’s no after-sale customer service.

Then I called the main number and asked where the nearest service location was. I’m in Austin, and the service center is in Brenham. About 100 miles away.

Too bad. The battery stuff is pretty good for trimmers and even push mowers.

at this point, I’m going to start looking for used tractors. Just a mower and a loader. I’m driving to Houston friday. There’s several places I can have a look.

I first bought an Ego string trimmer with the 54Volt battery. Like it a lot. Later, I bought a self propelled 21" mower for doing a small hilly area where my wife can't get to with the small lawn tractor, but is too big for the trimmer. I like it too. Uses the same battery. The battery died last year, so I bought another. I took the old one to Batteries & Bulbs and they accepted it for free. Couldn't believe. Later, I took an 18V battery from a drill and they charged me $5. Both lithium batteries.

Have lot of EGO tools replacing electric or 2 cycle engine alternatives and I am happy with them. Don't think I would do the lawn tractor or mower. The batteries do not last forever and they are expensive to replace. A 4 cycle engine is reliable and will last for a very long time.

Ace hardware takes care of service for Ego. Do you have any of those?

We have a couple, but the guy on the phone was very clear. Only the authorized service center for the mower. I’m surprised a brand like ego doesn’t have a better support system in place.

It’s clearly important to their customers and the basis for most of the negative reviews.

It was a useful exercise to pretend like I bought it and then start calling to see where I could get it fixed.

There‘s a few places online that sell EGO parts. I just had to replace the wiring harness in the handle on my self propelled mower. I called EGO tech support before to get some idea of what it might be and they were totally useless.

Interesting to find they have better support than Husqvarna. The website says my local Ace is a servicing dealer, as is a 4-wheeler dealership a couple towns over. Husky--an hour up the road....

I recently bought a trimmer and blower combo pack, and honestly--I like them.

I like Ego as well. I’ve got several tools and they all have been good.

The price on the zero turns and the lawn tractors is significantly above gas options, which may be fine. But the reviews and service reports give me pause.

My call to their “mower” help line did not inspire confidence.

I can understand that. I made a few calls yesterday to places that say they service. However not the zero turn i want.

So now i wonder if i want to get one just yet. Or wait for a service center for these

I have a neighbor i need to talk to, he has one. Wonder if he knows of a place

I think you're spot on. The tools that work do work very well but I had a bad experience with their warranty on a leaf blower I gave as a gift and swore no more Ego. Basically DOA but a few days past the Amazon return window so they put me through the ringer to get an RMA number then I was responsible for getting the tool to the only service center around that had awful hours and was very backed up.

I know several people that use Ego and they are perfectly happy but I was really turned off by the poor service network and went DeWalt 20v for my light duty landscaping. I'm happy I went Yellow, even if it's just the 20v platform.

Where do you live? I think it’s odd there are so few near Austin.

I have twenty service centers within 50 miles of me. Eastern Iowa.

Several of them are P&K Midwest branches, which are large John Deere ag equipment dealers. I noticed an Ego banner in front of one I drive by regularly the other day.
