Nice job on the boathouse, its coming up better than I would have expected.
Thanks Geoff

The side we painted and the rear still to do, are the better sides. The opposite long side is shot to bits and the cladding needs to be replaced.
It’s on the very long list

We met the bin men this morning
They arrived on their barge, how much fun is that.

Certainly beats getting shouted at by the impatient rush hour commuters.

Steve,

I like how you used the term

“we scraped and painted one side of the boathouse”

The job looks good so far. I’ve did my share of scraping and painting by myself and with help from others. Last time my brother and I scraped and painted the carport and front porch ceiling at my mother’s house, we got it finished in one long day. It would have takes me 4-5 days if I did it myself. As you know, scraping and sanding take most of the time so it looks good at the end.

I have a two year old grandson who is obsesses with the garbos as we call them. He would be very impressed with a nautical version.
Ha, how to tell me you’re Australian without telling me you’re Australian
Garbos 👍 along with drongo and “that’s not a knife, this is a knife “

I do get a little obsessed about getting the bins out on time, so it seems I’m in great company.

Nice paint on the boathouse. Black, indigo, deep charcoal. I can't decide. looks great. Very European. hehe.
Matt Black, Bedec barn paint.
I wanted and always use satin but this is what happens when you send the wife to get the paint.
She did buy £200’s worth so I’m complaining very quietly and to a fella who lives a long way away.

I think the boat shed was originally coated in creasote, a loooonnngg time ago.
We both sanded it then both painted it, probably a good five hours in total.
Probably the same again for the end.
But that’s next week.

This weekend is being spent at Carfest.

Gave it away, did I? Can't say the term drongo is something you hear too often, more something from past generations. As for Croc Dundee, while Paul Hogan may be the quintessential Aussie, I think he's more of an American these days.

Some very nice cars in those last couple of posts. As a Ford man I've always regarded it as a tragedy that Corvettes are a GM product. That blown Chev powered Willys is beautiful, while John Steed would be right at home in the Bentley.

Yeah, I think there’s a good chance we’re of similar vintage.
From what I’ve read the Paul Hogan thing is a little sad , he’d like to come home but his son has issues so he’s staying in the US to be with him.

Back in the day when cars were cheap I had all sorts Mostly fords but also one ‘vette and then the
Jags, triumphs and MGs, nothing very exotic but just plenty of em. I calmed down to low and slow in the VW’s
There are some stunning cars here.
🤣John Steed🤣 showing our age again

Steve🍻

Also most forgot about this one
New corvette which started up remotely from the phone of the 12 year old standing behind it. I’m guessing it’s his dads.

Thank you for sharing the car show pictures!
No problem, my friend

Last couple, haven’t looked up these guys, not sure what they’re about, could probably guess by the name

A quick word of warning, when walking back to the car late at night. DO NOT show the wife the
Silent Disco or this happens and it’s a twenty minute wait.
It is very funny to watch though.

Good to see the Pampas grass gone.

Horrible, pointless plants.

Years ago I bought a house (the one I sold when moved to England) and it had a bush that the root bundle or “stem” was at least half the size of a traditional Mini.

I guess whoever had planted it, had long since vacated the house or lost control of it.

Took me near two days to remove.

Leaves then stump.

Probably the worst part was splitting it into manageable pieces to manhandle onto my trailer.

Horrible things.

Well done.

Thanks Rian

Two days is about right, it was quite a struggle.
We’ve got the rubbish barge guys coming today take the last of the garden waste, then we should just be able to maintain it better and make it look like someone cares about the place
Will need two tons of earth to fill the hole the damn thing came out of though.
Now just need to find someone to deliver that.

We’ll be back there later today to carry on with a few things till Saturday

Cheers

Yup……

I had a big hole too.

Lucky a house was being built a mile away, three garden trailer loads later I planted a tree there.

Quick hijack.

When i bought the house it was neglected and had been vacant for 2 years.

Much work, rebuild of the existing swimming pool and turning it to a salt water system.

When I bought it, I visualised the garage to add to the existing single garage.

Existing garage and servants room and toilet in Green.
Garage I added on in Red
6 meter 18 foot closed carport with door in rear of extended garage in blue.

It was possibly the best setup I ever created.

Put in the market on a Thursday and signed, sold by Tuesday.

The trees I planted out front have flourished.

We left Whitchurch yesterday morning, a very nice smart village, not much going on but very well looked after. Loads of hanging baskets all over and even knitted bonnets on the bollards
IMG_1155.jpeg

Interestingly though only 15 minutes drive from
Winchester so I dragged the family there to follow in the footsteps of the famous fellow that is
Bob @Bob Heine although there is also a statue of Alfred the Great.
The visionary king of old that brought together the different warring factions to form one kingdom that was the foundation of England.
And mightily impressive it is
IMG_1162.jpeg
IMG_1159.jpeg
I did speak to a couple of locals who remembered
Bobs visit and they said that they’d only just put the bunting away, such were the festivities.

A quick turnaround and we’re back in Norfolk for the rest of the week.
Boaty being put to good use

Looks way better

Painting and yard work have really improved the value and taken your new acquisition up a huge amount in appearance.

Is or has water made its way into the house or its crawl space?
Hi Drives

Thanks, it’s gonna be a long slow process, but we’ll get there eventually, and thanks, we think it’s looking better already also. In truth it wouldn’t have been hard to make it look at little move loved

No water gets into the house it’s up way high enough, even after the big flood of 2023 the house remained dry, many didn’t.
Plenty of water underneath though and I reckon the water table is about 6” under the grass.
The hole we dug to dig out the pampas grass is full of water
We’re going to have a load of soil delivered to raise the ground level and keep some of the water out. This is something that should have been standard practice but the neglect of the previous owners keeps trying to bite us.

In the spirit of trying to smarten things up.
This was today’s work
Sad little shed. plenty of rotten timber and the glass was falling out.
IMG_1176.jpeg
Replaced the rotten wood and fitted a new window and some trims, the girl child and I knocked up Monday
IMG_1177.jpeg
Fitted some correctly sized fascia’s a good sanding and the first coat of paint.
Second coat all round tomorrow and the door back on
IMG_1179.jpeg
This is possibly the colours we’re going for on the house.
Hamptons Beach House, maybe.

It all looks very Escape to the Country pleasant, Steve.
Hi Geoff

It is a very pleasant place to eat and drink, watching the boats go by.
Until you turnaround and “holy ****, what have we done “

What is good fun is that when people hire the large motor boats they get given a lesson in how to turn the massive things around and it’s usually right outside us. Makes for interesting watching.

Like the Chevy pickup trucks!
They sure are nice, there’s a good number of American motors but it is a quintessentially English show.
A few we saw today

Magnificent, enjoy the heck out of it. Looks like loads of great things to see and do!!

Looks like a great time.
Thanks fellas, that’s Friday over I’ve done my 10k steps x 10 I recon.

Just about every single person has made the effort to look the part, it’s quite impressive.

Both the cars and the racing are fantastic.
It appears our tickets, along with all food and drink included also give us paddock entry and
Pit lane walks and pit lane roof access to watch the racing along the start/finish straight.

A beautiful Jag
