Extreme SE Missouri, NE Arkansas, or NW Tennessee. It must be flat. The only hill I want to see would be a watermelon mound in the garden. That will put me 4-hours drive from my parents and family, with a number of acquaintances within 30 minutes.

I already own a nice rural piece of land in FL that we could build on which would put the wife 3-hours away from her family when we're down this way. She's having trouble getting her mind around it, but when pushed we will see what happens. As you mentioned life is too short.....

....to deal with suburban nonsense. I have a very nice house, much like your place in AZ. The lots are all 2-ish acres, one side of my lot is bordered by a very dense housing development. It hasn't been a problem minus a situation or two but I won't miss it never driving by it again. The day I arrived home from looking at those houses I woke up at 2 AM because the neighbors flood lights came on and shined through my hallway and I said "I'm done". The real kicker is that in 6-7 years I will pay as much for mortgage/insurance/Taxes that would pay in full a house I'm looking at, of course it's a smaller house but bigger lots and barns. Think about that, and I say that knowing full well the monthly outlay on my 3500/sqft house is less than 1-bedroom apartment rent just down the road. It would enable a significantly earlier retirement, among other things.

Anyways don't want to slide your thread, but while my wife says we're living someone else's dream, I believe you're living mine. Keep it up buddy!

Ohhh we have had some major derailments here through this thread journey, your not messing anything up 🤣. My vote would be TN. Beautiful country. Don't give up, keep moving forward no matter how slow or no matter what, you will live your dream!

I definitely like where your mind is, that's a beautiful house and there was a time I had strongly considered buying in Jackson, TN. It's a pretty decent smaller town, but good news is coming.

After our exchange on Thursday I pulled up Zillow again to look around the area I had been monitoring. Something new popped up, something almost exactly what I had envisioned - a smaller house that needs some TLC but has solid bones, a barn, and a big yard. It's in my budget and I have the money to do all the needed repairs. The even better part of it is that there's nothing around within 1/4 mile, a "regional" city is just 15 minutes away (HD/Menards/Walmart/etc), my parents place is 4 hours away, the places I spent my childhood are just a couple miles away, and I have family about 30 minutes away. I prayed on it, slept on it, mentioned it to the wife who suggested I explore it, and finally put in an offer. It was accepted quickly and now I have the opportunity to begin a new chapter.

Here's a teaser shot, I'll start my own thread once we get to closing.

That's awesome and congratulations 🎉! Definitely start a thread. What area is that in? Only reason I ask is that the reason for our TN trip a few weeks ago was to look at property.

Thanks! I'll be in far southern Missouri, right on the bootheel at the MO/AR line. What kind of place are you looking for in TN? I like the TN area better but I'm from MO so that's a plus for me, as well as TN will be just a 30 minute drive now. Plus it has hills.

Actually......as of tonight we are under contract on a water front house on Kentucky Lake. So North West TN. It's about 6 hours from where we live in IN. 👍

Summer and whatever other random long weekends we want to go down. Maybe some no girls allowed fishing trips with the boys!
We're getting close to wrapping up the summer at our place in the AZ White Mountains. 6500' elevation and only 2.5 hours from the 5th largest city in the US. You being 6 hours away is more of a travel commitment, you probably won't be able run back and forth like we do for doctor appointments, etc. But Kentucky Lake really is beautiful.

Look forward to seeing pics of the KenLake house. Went there a few times as a kid, it's a great fishing lake and that whole area is pretty awesome - Paris, Union City, Paducah, Jackson. Look forward to exploring it more in the years to come. I spent some time at Pickwick Lake each summer and aspire to have a place down there.

I'll try and take some better photos later this week when I'm there. These are just a few teaser pics from the listing.

Ya know B, since this place will only be utilized occasionally you really need a full time curator staff. And since the wife and I have been considering relocating to that area, I’ll offer up our services free of charge. The wife’s a hell of a chef and you know I’m a hell of a wrench but the bonus is i look hot as f in a French maids costume sooooo whatta say??

Looks good from my house. I don't know that I'd want to see this from much closer 🤣🤣.

Are you guys really thinking about moving ?

I'm trying..... oh what the hell. Cam, how did it come to pass that you had a french maid costume on your body??

:headscrat

I know I'm going to regret this.

Well, back when @PugetDude was advertising for a maid service I figured what the hell I'll try anything once.

On the way to his place, I got lots off whistles soo..

What I don't understand is why Scott ran off screaming like a little girl when I got there - go figure?

Ya we are. The wife has decided Prescott isn't the final resting place for her. And I've always said I wanted my retirement to come with a boat dock which isn't happening in Arizona. What will seal the deal is if our daughter and family move back there, which they keep threatening to do.

That's awesome! It's a beautiful area. Most of TN is. We are looking forward too if all goes to plan business and otherwise to be able to spend hopefully 1-2 months out of the year there. Then back and forth as much as we can.

Whew! Since Cam invited me to this thread, I have spent a bit of time going back and reading all 3,986 posts.

All I can say B is, "WELL DONE!" The house, the shop/barn, the kids, the property........

Question, did you ever get your internet issue taken care of with the barn? The reason I ask is that I had a similar Faraday cage at our last place. If you haven't gotten that far yet, how's this for a possible solution. Put a window into the side of the barn facing the house. You now will get internet, light and ventilation. Just a thought.

Hey, thanks for joining us and thanks for taking the time to read everything! This has been quite the adventure to say the least. I never thought we would be where we are, doing what we are, but it was God's plan and a lot of right place right time and maybe a bit of dumb luck 🤣

The window is not a bad idea. Now you've got me thinking.

Welcome to TN boosted! I love it here. Im a lifer but when I lived in Texas I was so homesick for curvy roads and mountain views. We love lake life bit I love my house andnproperty too much to move to the lake( not that I could afford to) but if a little piece ever comes available on a river I want to build a nice weekend cabin.

So, is this your neighbor's company or something else?

This must be the company that he is leasing from and having do his account billing and collections? I assume he's not going to personally mess with monthly bills, maybe part of the lease also includes collections and then they pay him rather than the other way around.

I have no idea to be honest haha. I'm kind of over trying to figure it all out. It's all out of my yard so it's really not a concern of mine 🤣. The prices also don't line up with what he told me so it's more expensive than what I have now which works just fine.

Well it's soccer tournament time of year so that will keep us busy this week and next as well as my Grandma from AZ is coming in for a visit so it was a sad morning of preparing for hibernation.

B if we just worked out this curater gig in Tennessee. Your toy would always be clean, fueled and ready to rock at a moment’s notice…

Well as long as I wasn’t already up lake or something 😏

Unfortunately. After much deliberation, some non-disclosure by the seller, some inspection items, and some due dilligence on my part that revealed some facts and things I just wasn't comfortable with for our situation, as of last night that deal was killed.

Yea sorry.

I guess the thing that makes me most upset is the non-disclosure. I asked very specific questions in which I received very specific answers to. Then after my own due diligence research found that answer to be not true and when questioned about it that's when the backpedaling started. Ohhh yea now I remember let me dig up that info. And then just straight up non-disclosure of another item which clearly benefited one side vs the other.
