Had these come in today to round out a set for a box I've been putting together at work. Got some new hires coming in. Need to get a couple ready for issue. A little thick in the beam, but not bad for the price. Chrome is nice, finish pretty even. Broaching is clean enough. Grainger house brand to the best of my knowledge. IMG_20250925_223050.jpg

A set of stubby ratchets, an additional Fire Stick for the great room at the lake house and converters to be able to hook up to the Ethernet switch for wired internet to the Fire Sticks. Didn’t know Amazon had these as an option. Our WiFi at the lake is pretty good, but we have fiber to the house and there are switches close to both receivers in the great room and media room.

I don't think I've ever had a time when I said "boy I wish I had a stubby ratchet right now". What are people using them for?
Here's a stupid simple example....

I needed to remove a license plate of all things off a Toyota Camry, so I grabbed the socket set that was in the car and the ratchet handle was too long for me to put a socket on the bolt. if I'd had a flex head or stubby I could have done it. But otherwise the bumper or the sides, because the plate holder was indented, would hit the end of the ratchet handle and I couldn't even get it on.

For sure if I'm crawling around under the dashboard, sometimes that's useful. And sometimes if you have to shove your hands into that engine bay or just get around something you don't need to apply a bunch of torque, maybe there's a hose that's just in an impossible location you need to get that clamp off...

For me it's all about being able to sneak around various fittings, hoses, brackets, etc, that are always in the way of what you're actually trying to get to.

Pretty much every underhood job starts with the longest ratchet that I can fit to break a fastener free, then a stubby to spin it out quicker.

They're not absolutely necessary, but they keep me from messing with old fragile plastics and make jobs just a little less annoying.

Not a tool, but I just got "Pat the Cat". My wife had a PetSmart coupon for cat litter, and unbeknownst to either of us, we were pulling up to an animal adoption event. There were around 20 dogs and just one cat with a tag on the crate that said "Pat the Cat, $50". We inquired about his story. The woman hosting the event told us that the window on her SUV broke in the down position, and when she went outside the next morning he was sleeping in the drivers seat. He had been at the animal shelter she operates for several months and was brought along to different adoption events, but nobody wanted him. We took a chance and he's turned out to be a very sweet boy and gets along great with our three other cats. He prefers to stay downstairs in our finished basement and has become my new workshop buddy!

New to me Snap-on hose picks. Bought off the Snap-on truck used yesterday. Old mechanic had cancer and passed away and gave all his tools back to Snap-on so his family didn’t have to worry about them so these do have a special meaning even though I didn’t know the guy personally but still good to know the tools are being taken care of. I plan on cleaning the tray out and making it look nice. I was going to buy a single one which was like $50 or $60 alone and he’s like I’ve got this used set $170 retails nearly $250 new so I’m like yeah might as well get the whole set. Probably worth $170 because I break cheap ones that’s why I needed these. Also bought 4 pairs of socks too. I was going to buy all that he had but I didn’t want to be greedy lol.

I had an oil filter cover in a tight spot where I needed one. A Pittsburg worked just fine, for the few times I needed one.

Who make is it? I’ve virtually killed all my 1/2” swivels. I sure wouldn’t mind spending for a quality piece.

I'm catching up, so sorry if somebody else mentioned it. Koken makes something different that may well be stronger, but I'm not sure. It does do more degrees of bending, and also seems to work more like a constant velocity joint than a U-joint.

Vaper Blow Gun set from O'Reilly.

I have another blow gun, but no tips that get into anything.

First thing I blew out with this set up was the rear derailleur innards/spring on one of my bikes. They're hard to clean, not that it makes much difference. Anyway, I tried with the other gun I had at one point and it didn't do much. This one blew all the dirt out. Now it has a nice clean spring.

I'd like to say it shifted better, but it was the same. Bike is a few grams lighter now though. ;)

Those other tips are supposed to be flat and a venturi tip. I have no idea if/when those'll be handy to have.

Please let us know how you like them - I am in the market for locking extensions and really don't want to pay Snap-On money.
I also got a set of the Astro locking extensions a couple of weeks ago... They are pretty nice. I had some issues with other brands of locking extensions not wanting to "lock" onto certain socket brands, which makes them kind of pointless. So far the Astro lock on to everything I've tried them with.

In addition to using them in an impact driver, they also work particularly well hand-held in the new Klein ball grip bit-driver/screwdriver. Socket locks on extension, extension locks into Klein, very nice. I used them again today with the Astro nano sockets, very happy with the set!

You can see a bit more of them in a video I did last week...

I also did a video doing a very quick comparison of the new Tekton/Witte drivers to some of my other German drivers as well as the previous US Tektons...

I hope posting these videos in this thread doesn't come off as spammy. I'm not doing it for any measurable financial gain, it's a labor of love.

Thanks

A couple weeks ago I bought one 3/8" drive 6" Snap-On locking impact extension.
I really like it but I really don't want to spend that much on the rest of them.

The only sockets I have tried with the SO extension were Icon impact sockets and it locked on to them okay.

Now that is absolutely not spammy. That's a really good video. Very well done. Lot of nice comparisons. I really enjoyed it.

As I already stated, I really don't like the new handles but that just has to do with the shape.

I don't think you should stick something in the handle and use that to apply extra torque. That said, it might be an interesting test, but I would expect if you need to apply that much. Torque it might just rip those handles apart. I think all you have is plastic at that point. I attempted the magnet test, but the handles are so thick that pretty much the moment I get the handles the magnet does nothing. So then I took a rather small but very strong coin-shaped magnet and I dropped it through that hole, and the magnet just went straight through and I would anticipate that if there was any metal supporting that that the magnet would have caught on that. So I really think all you would be grabbing at that point would plastic and I would expect it to break.

So you don't have a feral assist off a wrench, and I really think you'll just break your your screwdriver if you shove another one through there and try to spin it.

Also up for show and tell today: a hazet hook thing. I don’t know; drum brake springs maybe? And I got a rebuild kit for this craftsman ratchet I must have bought maybe in the late 90s or early 2000s. So now it’s back in play after years of sitting broken.

I've got an 80's Mercedes that needs hook-things to pull the instrument cluster out of the dash.

I grabbed these at Home Depot in their plumbing department surprisingly. I have no need for them at the moment but have had the need for them before.

I don’t need the thin head wrench often enough to justify buying a set of service wrenches but the need does justify the price of a shaved adjustable.

New (to me) Lista cabinets. I wanted something heavy duty to hold press brake tooling and raw material/off cuts. The larger of these two just happened to fit between the uprights on my press and the price was right. I'm sure I'll find something to do with the other.

I bought two of those thin head Crescent wrenches when I was doing some plumbing angle-stop replacements. I pay a plumber to do those now but still keep going back to those wrenches for many things around the house and garage. They just have a very nice feel to them.

Couple of body hammers from ebay.

Left one is Fairmount Cleveland 167-G and don't know the brand of the other. It says either HF-14 or IF-14.

I know that Metalmen (detroit), early Bluepoint, Bonney and Fairmount had similar offset dinging hammers. Model number for Bluepoint, Bonney and Fairmount don't match.

Only Metalmen model number I could find is from Edw. G Budd MFG Co catalog and it doesn't match. But it sure looks similar.
