I had to order a new actuator for one of our powered louvers today:

Grainger was WAY cheaper than anywhere else! When did this happen? I've always used Grainger when bidding out a job, then bought elsewhere to come in under bid and make myself look good. I guess that won't work now.

I've bought a few things from Grainger on the civilian side as they were the only game in town for what I needed when I needed it. I use them mainly on the government side, sometimes they are cheaper and sometimes they aren't but I still use them as it's less purchasing paperwork for me to do than to not use them. But now I'm going to check a little more often to see if they have it and are cheaper than the next vendor when I'm personally looking for something.

I was on a job once and I spent a lot of time hanging out in an office shared with a shipper/receiver.
I was checking out some of the paper work and the company was paying between 40% and 60%
less then the suggested retail price in the catalog.
I had an account with Grainger for when I was working out of town. I would place an order over the phone and pick it up behind the store after hours. I almost always paid list but I could bill it back to the client.

Before 2008 the Grainger in a nearby town would only sell to commercial accounts. Along about that time they basically started advertising for walk in customers on the local area radio stations. They must have needed groceries. Not much longer after that the location closed. Zoro is the Grainger subsidiary for the common man these days and prices are usually much lower.

Pricing error in aisle 6...

I once picked up high flow pneumatic fitting barbs at Grainger because they were the cheapest at the time - but only because it's hard to find, and everyone else would incur shipping. The BASE price was more expensive at Grainger.

EXACTLY!

Hell, a month or so ago I looked for a picture of foam-filled utility tires for a post here, and fount that Grainger had them for 1/3 what I paid in town--after shipping!

Life will never be the same.... :(
What size tires? I keep debating doing some of our equipment in foam filled.

When you have a commercial account, they are quite a bit cheaper than listed prices.
They can also price match on some items, and source parts not in their catalog. I do this often through our account rep.

My former partners, later clients had national accounts in Can and USA. If you just took the pricing for the account, it was generally a fair bit higher than competitors, To get decent pricing we had to go to account rep and get a quote. Even then: when working out of our Minooka IL office my hotel room looked out over a monster Grainger service center and we could get almost everything and anything we needed from the "will call" desk an hour after ordering. Would be really nice to have that level of convenience with market leading prices.

As an enterprise, the company i work for probably orders a couple million a year from Grainger. We have our own sales rep there, even. We don't pay anywhere near what the list value is.
