On Thursday I had an appointment in the city to the south, so I hit the Restore and a good thrift store while I had the chance.
54845252462_d20c63e36c_b.jpg
Two Bessey clamps, three Hindale sockets and one Snap-on socket from the Restore, and some good books from the thrift shop.

Today I hit two sales
54846371798_5a553df85b_b.jpg
From the first sale a pair of shelf brackets, Cornwell driver, and Snap-on hex impact with Snap-on socket. She gave me all this for free, as she likes me.
The second sale was a major tool sale, with a ton of Snap-on, which was priced appropriately. In other words to high for my tastes. But I found a vintage Craftsman box with newer ratchet, SK torx set, Sheer Tumico precision dynometer, and Wardmaster ratchet.

Slim pickin's here lately. Finally saw a couple of sales with tools yesterday. First one turn out to be off-shore **** and model trains. Second was run by a guy notorious for dumping tools in a big pile on a table or the floor. I arrived late and there where 10 people in line. Word was they were only letting eight people in the house at a time. Guy in front of me said the first part of this sale was the week prior;
the tools had been mostly off-shore;
half the garage had been off-limits but would be opened up today;
until an employee said not until the following week.
They had only let in two people in 30 minutes, so I went home and finished painting my fence.

And now, an unrelated word to the wise rant:

I found a vintage Starrett S264WB Center Punch set on the first day of the 4-day Wild Warehouse Weekend a year and a half ago. As noted then, it was missing the smallest punch--1/16" I've had a fruitless alert on ebay for the last 17 months for a single 246A--fruitless until last week! Listed as new, the seller and I agreed on a price of $10.
When it arrived, I broke out the set and was confronted with the realization that the bastages at Starrett had apparently standardized the barrel size of the set's punches without consulting me! Foolishly, I failed to heed the true words of Doc "Bones" McCoy--"Engineers, they love to change things." I'd been looking for so long to complete the set, when the goal was finally in sight, I fumbled the fact that vintage design ≠ current, no matter how similar it may look in a photo. The real issue is that it didn't fit in the factory drilled hole in the wooden storage block. My solution was my 1/2" Forstner bit. Not pretty, but it is complete. \rant.

Just finished unloading this seriously funky set of four Fisher Scientific lab cabinets. All steel, made in the USA and heavy duty drawer slides. Been on the hunt for some workbench storage for weeks and couldn't resist the super cool multi-color look. I have some damaged solid core doors at work that should make for excellent bench tops (after a very heavy cleaning).

$100 for the lot, plus another $67 to rent a van.

Return visit to the same estate sale from yesterday. It was 30% off day and a bit less crowded. Nothing really of a need ,per se but I spent a few bucks anyhow. I think the apron might serve at work when I am cutting fiberglass panels ,keeping my clothes cleaner.

A packing up seller at the car boot sale, and a little but of bartering netted me this little lot for £13 ($17.30) I think I came out ahead at less than 50p (67cents) a spanner 😉 A little scrub up and I’m well chuffed, they even threw in the tote!

Now is when the rainy season starts in earnest, here south of Portland, and this dries up the garage and estate sales like nothing else. So, knowing this, I checked out a local farm auction. Here, I found two lots worth bidding on, and won.
First lot:
54848150084_c677c2a3e7_b.jpg
one complete Truth socket set, in original box. Not as cheap as I would like, but not common at all.

Second lot:
54848150880_bcbb07e860_b.jpg
one bucket of burned ratchets. This lot went cheap enough that I figured what the heck. About 1/3 of the ratchets were Snap-on, some a bit expensive, and thought I would take a stab at getting them working.

And while I was out that way, I thought to stop at an estate sale, and here I found this:
54847904161_d451b185e7_b.jpg
An American Watch Tool Co. lathe. The estate sale company had no idea what it was, and when, after paying, I told them they still had no idea what I meant. Oh, well.

Had a great evening last night and started today off the same way. Last night was one of those Fridays were you just wanted to kick off the work boots and plant yourself in your chair. I might have made it 5 min before the race was on. Saw this listed on FBM about 40 min away. I was the first to answer and made tracks fast. Guy that had it was a stand up no BS guy, and was cleaning house. This vintage full Craftsman set also included additional sockets from Wright, Proto & Challenger. Also came with a SK extension & KoKen ratchet. The rust is dust… wipes right off. The box is a bit worse for wear, but ot will be restored soon. Right before I carried out the sockets, he said I needed a vise ( Columbian 604 ) too. I replied I just raced my *** here and didn’t bring a dime. He said it’s the same price…. Free. I hung around for another 1/2 hour BS’n…All came from his father who was a heavy equipment operator. That explained the dirt & rust. Stand Up Guy.

This morning I head out to pick up 2 boxes because of the sockets I see sitting inside the Stanley. Full set of 3/8 SK SAE sockets and a nice partial set of SK 3/8 Metric. A ten spot took it all.

While on that side of town I reached out to another FBM ad for a vintage 3/8 Craft set… Wow is it nice. Spot on to a SK set…. Another ten spot for this…He had a few Plvmb sockets, ratchet and breaker bar I just missed, same price….What’s on for tomorrow???

Steve

Cleaned up most of the interesting stuff. There's still a few bits but here's the main stuff in focus from post #4752. Probably won't post much else from the lot since most was basic stuff but drawknifes, crescent wrenches, and a few other bits will probably be shown in the final cleaning update.

Ridgid Al 6" pipe wrench
Stillson's Wrench 6" broken dynamic jaw
Snap On prybar

Wiha 4mm flat head driver
1951 Snap On LDH-322 1" 3/4 drive socket
Snap On TA-3 1/4-3/8 adapter

Mechanic's Pal 6 feet tape measure
2804.jpg
2805.jpg
Lg Allen and Sm Eklind hex key sets
Wester Bros Optimo 2 scissors
Diamalloy MS54-3 fine cutters
Truck bed clamp, didn't know what it was but figured it clamps stuff so it'll potentially clamp something someday
Snap On bit driver with wood bark finish from drying out, destroyed
Helios leather pouch with Lufkin No.1611 and takedown tool, paint spatter on outside of pouch after cleaning but I would rather the pouch be intact than immaculate and the leather is hydrolyzed(I think that's the word they used to use, coated with a hydrophobic coating or something that gives it a more rubbery feel) everything else is fair condition and in spec.

Also figured out pics again since they weren't friendly; crop and you're good so just crop out the toes instead of intentionally avoiding them in the first place.

The bed clap is for clamping a shell to the top of the bed.

From this weekend.

Snap-On prybar, MAC distributor wrench, couple of Snap-On driver bits, MAC pliers, Snap-On sockets, Vulcan spark plug socket.

Barcalo wrench set from a private estate sale. Was pictured in the sale photo's but initially couldn't find but sniffed it out eventually, looked like someone tried to stash/hide it away but obviously found it. Picture taken after cleaning it up.

ALINC, I am digging on that Bonney box. Very nice!
I was the 3rd person to message in the first hour. Not sure what the other two were thinking. Looking at the catalogs on ITCL I'm speculating 1927 to 1933 based upon the logo. I'm amazed many of the wrenches still have partial stickers on them. Also amazed at the weight and size of some of the wrenches. They didn't look that big in the picture. Years ago, I found a lot of Bonney with the stickers on still. Seems they last pretty well. I ended up shipping them to LesserSon in a trade for Hinsdale stuff.

It's been awhile guys, but here's my most recent haul from a yard sale Saturday....
MRH1.jpg
L to R - top to bottom:

*Partial set of sockets & bit...the sockets are Kobalt branded....
*DeWalt case with double ended Black&Decker bits....
*Taiwan pair of rusty vice grips with an L bracket welded to it and what appears to be a antena mount (CB radio?)....
*Battery powered (two AAA) General Tool brand screwdriver that takes the 1/8"(?) bits....
*Random assortment of small drill bits, a small ball-end hex wrench, and a long sheet metal screw....
*A rusty China pair of needle-nose pliers....
*Lastly, a DeWalt and a no-name long magnetic bit holders....

Once I cleaned and oiled these pliers, they work smooth as silk (extreme tight tolerances for an import)....

I installed batteries and tried out this General Tool screwdriver with a 1/8" Kobalt set I have and it works great....
MRH4.jpg

Everything cleaned up nicely....

hit up a sale yesterday and scored this 90's craftsman bbq tong set and also this cman high vis Torx driver.

IMG_4563.jpeg

Also hit up a local antique/ flea market type of store and found this unused license plate topper and this unused Stanley handyman Plane in its original box. All told this part of the haul was $45 but it was worth it for 2 minty items.

Another recent find, and £5 the set ($6.70) these double open end USAG metric spanner set, well almost - I’m of course missing the 13mm! A quick google shows the 252N is unobtainium over here in the UK, but will keep an eye open regardless! Quite weighty anyone know the facom equivalent if there is one?

Stopped at a garage sale about a half mile from my house. A 1/4”x11mm deep Snap- on socket and a Allway Tools steel putty knife.

He tried to give them to me for free, but I told him that I had to give him something for them… so he said a dollar. I gave him $2.IMG_5300.jpeg
