Took advantage of the HF parking lot sale last week and upgraded from a 30-5 cart to the full bank because my 30-5 cart was bursting at the seams.

No pretty pictures of the full bank organized yet because still I'm still working out the details but it's got enough extra space that I can store some more tools in it like my engine assembly stuff, and eventually pick up a pneumatic impact with a proper set of impact sockets.

Running some diagnostics on my new-to-me '93 explorer, only to figure out that the previous owner replaced the ECM with an incorrect/incompatible replacement. That explains all the weird codes that correspond to options that the truck doesn't even have, lol. Ordered the correct one, and parked it outside until it comes in the mail.

Oh yeah, while I had the truck inside, I took out the driver's window motor, and found another cheap replacement part that no longer worked. Took the motor apart and found that it had one of the leads touching the shaft inside, and had burned the insulation off and grounded itself. Fixed that, tested it on my bench power supply, and it runs. It ran so well it flung grease up my jacket, lol. I put it back together, installed it in the truck, and it works.

Then tracked down a weird creak/squeak in the front of my van. Part of it was the front sway bar bushings. The other part was a big rubber/plastic air dam inside the bumper rubbing on something. I just sprayed white lithium grease with a straw down in there until it quit, lol. It's a '94, there's no electronics to ruin in that old-*** bumper. Just metal, plastic, rubber and rust.

Oh.....about 4 oil changes in this Seadoo that got sunk. Had to pull the fuel rail and engine harness to get the intake off, it's snail shaped and has to be removed and rolled around to dump all the water out. Then unhook ALL electrical connections, blow the water out of them, and also siphon about a gallon of water out of the fuel tank.

"mikeGT4 - Check out Swain Tech for actual insulating coatings on exhaust manifolds/headers if that's your main focus. It's not the prettiest (white crinkle coating is the best way to describe it), but it works very well for thermal insulation."

Thanks for the link Outlawmws, it looks like they have a service that I may be interested in. I had been considering a white exhaust as Ferrari used them on most of their racing cars in the 60's-70's. Some examples from back in the day, of course my exhaust is well buried in the engine compartment. Video is an in cockpit ride around the LeMans circuit in a 312P (one of the photos), the exhaust sounds as good as it looks with a 11,500 rpm shift point.

As mentioned in earlier posts, I'm in the middle of a rear camera repair on my truck. The wiring harness arrived at the dealership yesterday, so I drove into Houston and picked it up today.20251015_174252.jpg

Two of the connectors are under the bed, while the rest are in the actual tailgate. I removed the old harness, installed the new harness, and now I have a rear backup/trailer camera again.

I think its been almost a year that I've gone without the rear camera, so it was darn nice to see an image pop up on the screen when I put the vehicle in reverse. Now that it's fixed, I'm not sure why I waited this long to tackle the repair.

Yesterday was cold and wet, so I spent the day giving the shop a good cleaning. I've been dealing with mice so I tried to get as much stuff as I could off the ground and onto shelves, racks or the wall. Makes sweeping under everything easier....

After 5 days in the mountains hunting near 6000 ft, we came home early as the show in camp piled up 4" in as many hours, (Got out of the near quarter mile camp jeep trail access road without having to resort to chains - barely!), but the "Emergency camp breaking" meant a lot of very wet/somewhat snowy tarps crammed into the van on top of everything else means a LOT of drying stuff out today and tomorrow after unloading...

Tarps are easy if I have a place to hang them a bit. one of the oriental carpets may need a power wash as well as drying. I
l see how ell the vacuum does once its dry enough... Easiest of all was the privy "tent" just set it up and a hour in some breeze and its done.

What I can't figure out is where the swelled part on my ankle when I got up this AM came from? At first it was simply uncomfortable to walk, later it was "I need a cane to take the weight". After some Tylenol and an ace wrap, and periodic "keep it elevated" (like now, while I catch-up Email & forum stuff...), its better mostly... inside, just forward of the inside ankle "point" joint but not under; more on top...

Eventful past few days.

As some of you know, I recently decided to adopt a dog we were fostering.

20251014_181240.jpg

Thing is, a cat had apparently made its way to living in our backyard.

To summarize, I'm extremely allergic to them, and while I did not "get rid of it" (due to coyotes and the sort on the other side of my fence), I tolerated it for a few days while posting on social media and the sort.

With no one claiming it, and no chance to take it to get microchip scanned, I had to wait it out until my hand was forced earlier today.

Some pics from the last 2 days -

So why am I posting this here, and now? My wife got out of work today at her normal time but let's backtrack.

This morning my wife heard a lot of "meowing" and thought the cat was near her car, or even in it. I let the dogs out back and sure enough, the stray was still there so she went on to work.

She later said she thought she heard meowing from the parking lot (she's a teacher), so I told her to check it out before leaving work. She heard nothing else.

Then she got home and heard it again so I immediately popped the hood and YEP!

Tucked in between the subframe and splash shield, came out another cat!

20251015_150728.jpg

Thing is, it had the same flea collar as the other one and they knew each other! It dawned on me that it could be her kitten and maybe both of them were dumped in our neighborhood together.

20251015_151029.jpg

20251015_161710.jpg

I didn't want to take them to a shelter (they euthanize, it's where we got our dog recently), but I couldn't keep them so I rushed quickly to city hall to get them scanned.

No microchip, no owners, nothing.

Finally found someone to take them in so they're no longer in my hands. They were so friendly, and even came up to my dogs but seeing as how I'm crazy allergic (and not set up for owning cats), they're a no go for us.

Updated the spare tire carrier on the tilt trailer. Did not like the crowded area trying to get the pin and out for the tilt feature. Studied and realized I could combine the crank leg side and the tire holder on the opposite side saving space and freeing up the access to the pin. Did require 7-16" bolts as the chinesium bolts were 11mm. Also added a wider etrack stop and two rails as the sxs is wider than the atv. Both fit now so it's multiple choice!

never heard of this, looked it up and found out it's native here in AU
Yup. And it's evasive here. The park we stayed at had it really really bad last year. It covered 90% of their pond. They had to blast it with herbicide to knock it back and then introduce a bunch of carp to eat it.

You could still see some of it this year in the shallower areas, but it no longer covered the surface of the pond. The park rangers think it'll take another year or so before it's mostly gone. It'll never be fully gone, so they'll always have carp in the pond to feed on it and try to keep it from getting out of hand again.

My lake back home had it introduced and had to introduce carp to take care of it too. The lake was too big to use herbicide, so it took much longer to get it taken care of.

The other evasive species we're dealing with around here are the zebra mussels. Those things **** almost as bad as the Hydrila.

That goes without saying. I also learned how to ask for the bathroom in high school. I just thought it was cool that he had that cerveza sign up in his garage. It looks like license plate pieces strung together.
It is license plate pieces. The wife picked ot up for me several years ago when she and her girlfriends spent a long weekend down in Mazatlan̈. They had all kinds of signs from old pieces of license plates

We had a Hydrilla infestation on our 3,600 acre Lake Cypress Springs early on in our 27+ year ownership. Given it’s the county water supply, they had to be circumspect with how they treated it. A combination of carp and herbicides finally knocked it down over a couple of years, and we no longer have any issues. But it sure was a problem early on.

Went to the junk yards today to look for some old Ford Explorer parts. Came up with nothing. I did take a seat belt buckle out of a ranger to see if I could make it work. That was the minimum I could go home with. I at least needed that, lol.

Got home, and it's just a limp belt with no hard plastic sleeve to keep the buckle upright. I cut a piece of clear nylon high pressure hose, folded the belt in half length-wise, and used a hook to pull it through. That stiffened it right up. Bolted it in the truck, and it works perfectly.

Finally a little bit of time to cut.

Started off with the pipe roller, but this one was a quick mock-up as I realize I should've measured my own pipe jack before cutting it out.

20251016_124938.jpg

20251016_125454.jpg

It's ok though because the new Rigid pipe jack my friend bought me should arrive today so I'll have that to measure the 'V' on.

Also, he requested a vise mount for his service truck body. Thing is, they sell for over $345 before shipping and taxes which is ******* wild. The worst part, which makes me sick as a fabricator, is that such a premium product maintains sharp as hell corners.

PassengersideViseBracket.jpg

I won't even mention the ugly *** welds.

Anyway here's my version cut and bent in the same 3/16" mild steel.

20251016_124953.jpg

With the smallest radius that'll prevent anyone from stabbing their hand or getting their arm sliced up or their clothes.

20251016_125153.jpg

Still have a lot more work to do including finalizing the pipe jack heads as I got an order for 6 of them, 3 dino kits, some motor bike parts, and 4 large custom MOLLE panels for a customer of a customer.

Kudos to you.

I just don't understand people who dump animals. It's cruel.

Welded the rim up and ground it down inside and out. I filled in the pock marks with more weld and ground it down a few times and it looks like it was never there. I put some tile tape on it (very slippery on the surface stuff) to smooth it out even more once it was painted.
2025-10-16 08.04.54.jpg

How much baby power should I put in there ? Yes.

Exterior of the rim after a few hours of use. My eyes said the welds were fine. The camera shows otherwise. Good thing I don't know too many of y'all so you can't call me and make fun of me :lol_hitti

jblnut - I'd plan to replace that rim and/or expect it to crack again, not necessarily at the location of your repair. Welded up many like that for farmers and it'll get you through the harvest, but it will crack again. Some replace them before they crack again and keep them as a spare for less downtime the next time it happens. Some paint them red or circle the repair so you know you're putting on the spare and don't forget :).

Very nice! Only reason I'm walking the earth today is because of a Corvair. Ralph can pound sand! I am a fan of the 65-69 models. I never really cared for the looks of the early bodystyle BUT I would love to get a Lakewood or a Greenbriar.
Our city att. Had a red Corvair convertible. Custom liscense plate was “R NADER”.

Still cleaning up and putting away. I was able to dry the oriental carpets and just sweep and vacuum. Lanterns, stoves and the heater were refilled/prefilled for the next trip, and are all put away, clothes duffels, hunt gear put away, Fuel fill station is refilled and that is put away with the Pantry/Stove/lantern/fuel box. got the van empty enough to go refill it. Privy "privacy tent" dried out and put away, canopy stakes, ropes, shock lines, dry and put away...

I still need to clean mud/dirt of the canopy poles and put them away, and most of the canopy traps are tomorrow. I should have time for some of the mods I want to work on for some things.
