A couple months ago, I picked up some 26" toolboxes- 2 middle (riser) boxes, and one top. Today I shuffled them into my toolbox stacks. I had to move a wall-mounted cabinet to make room, but it's worth it to have the extra drawer space.

I haven't decided what is going in the new drawers yet, I just wanted to get them in place. I was tired of squeezing past them on the floor, lol.

Brought home a decent near clean hardwood pallet to salvage the wood from - the good news ls no glue and bright common nails so will come apart easily. I made 2 finger jointed camp boxes from the last one...

cut 2 scraps of 1" aluminum tubing for the 4" canopy leg extensions and then 4 pieces of type M copper that will become the slip in part, and wire brushed those and painted them to slow, if not stop galvanic corrosion. Waiting for thwat to fully sure under a heat lamp.

Slow day otherwise.

One of the inflatable Halloween decorations stopped inflating. Took it to the shop to see why. The power cable broke just inside the inflatable. I crimped the cable back together and it's back up and running. Also wired up 2 new inflatables.

Then I finished the first coat of poly on the wife's shelf. Now I just need to flip it over and sand and put a second, possibly 3rd, coat of poly on the top side.

Finally, I put out two rodent traps in the shop. I baited them with pieces of slim jim based on some recommendations online. We'll see how they work.
Raw chicken skin.

Played being a Sparky today.
I got tired of plugging and unplugging the 220 for the mill so I could use the tablesaw.
Removed the twistlok receptacle.

Added an extension box.
1761009356812.png
Hard wired the mill cord, (Already has a disconnect inline.) and the extension cord.

Also moved the compressor to where you see it now.

Not much time lately but did have to break out the battery trickle charger for my daily driver. The OEM battery is 5 years old now so will need to be replaced.

Since it was out moved it to the next truck in line…guess I hadn’t driven it in a bit. The Schumacher smart charger thought it was a 6v…jumped it and ran for a few minutes. Now it was correctly charged up as a 12v AGM battery.

On to the next vehicle and it started the Desulfation cycle. I’ll check on it when I get home this afternoon.

Somehow, this isn't getting through: This is the Most Useless Fruit on Earth (MUFE, trademark pending).

We have several crabapples on the pub property. Most are at least somewhat edible and one is excellent.

This tree is not one of those. The crabs appear to be made of an inorganic substance. They take a couple of years to even decay. They have no juice at all and are utterly flavorless. They would make a decent underlayment for a road, but not applesauce.

There's a spray that can be used to prevent apples from setting fruit. If I can recall what it is, I'll apply it next spring.
I bet there's a saw that will prevent it from setting fruit too. All that mess on the ground is the reason I keep saying No to the Mrs when she says she wants to add fruit trees. I have plenty of other things to do than to get rid of ground fruit. We can drive to her folks house if she wants to pick some fresh fruit.

be careful with those so called smart chargers, they sometimes get really stupid when left unattended......

Flip side is that it's the best looking tree on the property. In bloom, it's a knock-out.

Just need to find the anti-fruiting spray.

Built a bracket out of spare red iron so that I could install a wall mount for the TV. I was able to install it while watching the Seahawks thump the Texans last night, which kinda sucked. The wall mount was purchased from Sam's club and allows the TV to extend out and rotate to the side if needed.

However, it's primary function will be for schematics and diagrams once I hook the laptop up to it. I know I might have gone too big, but its worth it for the occasional foot ball game.

Wife decided she wants to move away from pods. She wanted somewhere to put the cup. I found this design on the web, but the original was too small for the tide cups. I modified the original and printed this roday.

I've been using those as well and printed some for others. There's one out there that is sized and sorted for the different brands and threads on the containers. My only issue is that after a couple of months the threaded part cracks open. I need to print it on another orientation. Just keep your eye on yours.

Who is the ****** that came up with that game time?! I'm west coast, so started at 7. But ****, I gotta get up at 5:30. At least my guys pulled that off after watching the Mariners miss.

I had a similar concern when I was looking at the first print. If this one works, then I think I'll print another in ASA but rotate the part 45 degrees and use supports where needed.

I hear you, it was a complete ****** move by the NFL. I was up past midnight watching the game and didn't get wound down until 2:00 am. That was a boneheaded decision by the NFL to start that game at 10:00 PM Eastern.

Your Seahawks look good, and exposed my Texans for the lackluster team that they are. Congrats on the win.

It just needs a bit of support at the threads - take electrician's tape and wrap that real tight a couple of times, then once with no pressure and it will probably last forever.

This particular crabapple is truly the Most Useless Fruit. It's hard as a rock, nearly as dense and has even less flavor. Nothing eats it--it barely even decays. Walking on it is like walking on golf balls--and the damned tree produces metric **** tons of it.
My dad use to spray an fruiting inhibitor on the ornamental olive tree to keep it from fruiting.

Gardeners may generally use a hormone spray containing the active ingredients ethephon and Napthalene acid. Ethephon is sold under the commercial name Florel Fruit Eliminator and Napthalene acid is sold as Fruitone or App-L-Set, and is generally recommended for apples and pears.

Might be worth a try.

Had 2 screen inserts for full length storm doors stored in the water heater closet that had never been used. When the new water heater was installed, I realized I am not likely to ever use those, so this morning I hauled them out to the shop, disassembled them and used the materials to repair 2 windows screens - one on the house and one on the shop that had damaged fabric.

Made and installed a plane stop in one of my benches today. Was a quick and dirty job but it works well and was left somewhat under sized so I can add a proper 3x3" one to it one of these days. Ofc making a 3x3" one will be much easier now that I have a place to plane the sides flat haha. The current one is about 2x2.5x12". Eventually I'll make it so everything recesses flat into the table top when not needed, but this works for now. And yes I did use a chisel to cut the mortise by hand, but only because 2 of the screws stripped out when I went to take the bench top off to cut it the easy way lol.

Thanks, Leonard!

I remember using gibberelic acid to thin the fruit on orchard apple trees, but couldn't recall the inhibitor's name.

I think I'll order some right now so I don't forget again by spring.

Cleaned up, filled the recycling and garbage bins. Sanded and primed a section of handrail that I should have installed 25 years ago. Top coats tomorrow and the next day. Moving on, I unboxed a 10” puller that I ordered from Bezos. I had 10” and 9” aluminum impellers that needed removing and wouldn’t you know it, the 10” puller could only open up to 8-1/4”. Grrrrr. Looking back at the listing, the outside capacity was listed in the fine print, but I still feel it was misrepresented. 12” cheapie puller ordered because I need a 10” puller….

During cleaning the shop, I came across a Yamaha tuner purchased from eBay years ago. Remembering why it was consigned to the garage - apparently, the previous owner was a heavy smoker and it still stunk. The cover was removed, cleaned with alcohol, as was the rest of the unit.

Flipped the handrail over, primed the underside and ran a few loads through the ultrasonic cleaner. Wrapped-up by cleaning a Bosch 12v reciprocating saw that my old boss gave me. It was caked in dirt and paint - works great! I don’t need it, but it was so groady, I just had to clean it.

More winterizing. Our front porch at the pub gets enclosed every fall, giving us four more four-tops (or two eight-tops) in heated spaces.

54871385100_ca82e42ecc_o.jpg

Plumbing the propane heaters is my job.

54870200922_155476fa55_o.jpg

There are two more heaters in the other half of the porch behind me.

In the past, we've used twenty-gallon propane cans to feed the heaters, one for each side of the porch. Yesterday, the gas man came by to hook up two 250 gallon tanks to the porch. No more changing cans at 7:30 PM in ten-below weather!

When I decommissioned the heaters last year, I carefully labeled them for location and zip-tied the hoses to the heaters. When I went to install them this AM, the hoses somehow didn't fit. Took about an hour to get everything figured out. I have no idea what the hell happened.

The warranty-replacement air dryer from IR finally escaped shipping purgatory! About five minutes to get the old one out and the new one in:

54870200927_365808c754_o.jpg

Dry air again! I'm hoping IR lets me keep the dead one, as I think I can salvage parts from it and the one it replaced--which seemed to be broken in a different way--and make one runner for a spare.

One of our antique light shades for the porch broke when a coworker washed it:

54871355915_94cd8decc1_o.jpg

It's the second time this globe has done this--the first time was years ago when I washed it the first time. The water was barely warm and the damned thing just split in my hands. It broke in a different place this time.

Fortunately, I've taught my coworkers that, if they save the parts, I can make it

54871295183_6437d6e8a2_o.jpg

whole again. It'll look fine from my shop. I barely even cut myself in the process.

Beer thirty, then some more knife sharpening.

Loaded up 10x of .308 - Federal cases, Federal large rifle primers, 44.2 grains of Varget, 168 gr. Sierra Match King bullets. Still doing load development; will go to the range tomorrow and shoot 2x groups of 5 at 100 yards. Hope to have 2x groups under 1/2 inch.

I like it! What are your plans for the Corvair?

Thanks for your service, BTW. I'm an Army guy, but I spent some time underway on the USS Georgia...
Thanks.

I plan to remove the front suspension and drivetrain as complete assemblies and set them aside.

The body, an empty shell, will go on the rotisserie for the bodywork.
It is a lot rougher than I originally thought - a lot and I mean A LOT of metal will need replaced.

I am having a 24' X 24' pole barn put up next to my shop in December that will be used for storage. I am waiting on that to be completed before I pull the drivetrain and front end so I have a place to store them out of the way while I do the bodywork.

Long range plan is nothing too fancy - fix the body, rebuild suspension and engine. No real performance work other than replacing the carburetor with EFI (I have a deep hatred of carburetors)

I am retired and I am under no pressure to get it done. I work on it when I feel like it.
I tell folks that ask when I will be done that I may never finish it but it gives me something to do and that was my goal when I started.

All things being equal, I wouldn't have even considered a Corvair but then I saw what rough 67-69 Camaros, 65-67 Chevy II's / Novas were going for. Forget about a 68-70 Mopar.

The Corvair ran and drive when I bought it. It was even registered and I got it for next to nothing by a guy clearing out his Grandpa's barn.

This kinda sums it up ...lol

About 2 months ago I discovered i buggered up. I have a Bobcat Compact tractor, a CT 335 with a number of implements, including a 3 point hitch finish mower.
There are 4 caster wheels on the mower and I assumed due to their size they were on bearings on the axles... wrong.
The wheels had steel bushings that were supposed to be greased. Oops.
I had the mower up in the air to hook up my turd buster 3000 drag and gave one of the caster wheels a wiggle and thought that the play seemed excessive pulled the axle and found one of the bushings missing entirely and the axle wore 1/2 through, again oops.
All of the axles were worn in a bad way the bushings were equally bad. Called bobcat and they wanted $900 for axles and bushings. Ouch. $150/axle and $25+/bushing. Wait almost month to find out the axles on this 15 year old mower have been discontinued even at the highway robbery rate of $150 each.
Here is a sample of the wear on the axle.

I decided that I always wanted to by a lathe and this was reason to pull the trigger. Brought a vevor metal lathe and some tooling off Amazon.
