Harbor Freight Framing nailer

Does anyone use a HF framing nailer? If so, which one do you recommend? I want to get one for general use on a couple of projects around the garage, and i was looking at this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/10-gauge-6-in-1-air-framing-nailer-98751.html?p=2

I have one (okay, it's my neighbor's) and I'm very pleased with it. I'm almost done framing walls in my basement and my neighbor used it to put a one-stall addition on his garage. Still works great. I've never experienced a double-fire like some of the "better" brands. Occasionally it will leave a nail sticking out a bit but it's usually just before the air compressor kicks on.
Highly recommend. I'd buy one, but my neighbor has one...

For the money, I would go look at Home Depot, Menards, Lowe's. I have seen deals where you get a framing gun, a finish gun, and a stapler in either Bostich, Porter Cable, or Senco for about $200. I'm personally a Paslode guy, but the Senco, Porter Cable, or Bostich will be a lot better guns than this. Actual of the three discount packs i would go Porter Cable and they will probably be the cheapest one as well. I'm not just talking out of my **** either, I have owned my own consrtuction company for 16 yrs and ran more nails through a nail gun than I even care to think about. Bostich would be the least desirable of the ones I listed because Bostich makes their guns so you have to use their nails where the majority of Paslode, Hitachi, Porter Cable, Senco, and others all run the same clipped head nail.

I don't even remember why I bought it, but I did some very crude carpentry w it (the only type of carpentry I do), and it worked fine. But in typical HF hit-or-miss fashion, after maybe 100 nails or so it halfway died; it just wouldn't fire a nail more than 1/2 way into a 2x4. I threw a few drops of air tool oil in it w no change.

I no longer had my receipt so I bought another one and then w that receipt returned the first one the next day. I tested the new one with 2 or 3 nails but haven't used it since.

I was running on my shop air = 80 gal compressor regulated at 90 psi so no, air delivery was not an issue. My air is dry.

I agree I've since seen deals at Home Depot, etc that included a stapler and seemed to be a much better product for not much more $. Now w Xmas coming up there will be all sorts of sales like this.

I borrowed one from my BIL and while I had it is stopped recoiling.... It was I think 2 years old. I just had it replaced at the local HF. They said if I bought the service plan they would be nice and replace it now. The old ones came with a plastic case so they let me keep that. It worked fine for building my shed before it broke...but it was used on a lot of projects before I had it.

I got a factory reconditioned one for about $150 and it is really nice.

I've got the 6 in 1 nailer. I haven't used it yet. I bought it at their parking lot sale. It was on sale for $79.99 I used the 20% off and got it for $63.99. Not a bad deal.

I did just buy a Bostich on Ebay for $100 shipped. Between the two I should have no problem framing the garage in the spring.

get on CL or ebay for that price. Framing nailers are all over the place. I picked up a dewalt framing and roofing nailer in damn near new condition for $120 on ebay. Even has a cool hook on it that allows it to be hung from a truss or 2x

looking at google, lots of activity in cheap nailers between $100 to $150, then mostly bad prices on cheap nailers up to $225 where the better brands start out.

OTOH construction season is over so maybe lots of good used on the market.

I bought my framing nailer from HF a couple of years ago to do a small framing project.(studding out a room for remodel) I am not sure of the model# (at work right now and can't check). I paid a round $60 or $70 for it. If I remember it is a 28 degree nailer that uses clipped or full head nails. I have since used it many times with no problems. I also bought 3500 nails from HF. They work too (I mean come on, its a nail), no jamming. I have been satisfied with the performance of this gun. Its a little heavy compared with a "name brand" gun, but I don't use it for hours on end. I have gotten my moneys worth out of it on the one project I bought if for and everything else has been a bonus. Definitely worth considering.

Good Choice on the Porter Cable, they work very well. If I had to buy a new nailer for under $200.00, that would be the nailer I would buy and I have used them on a daily basis for the last 20 yrs.

can you recommend a good nail for this gun for nailing joist hangers with 2x4's into existing 2x6 beams across my garage? i am going to put some plywood over the 2x4's and store some light **** up there out of the way.
