i like the extra long slide on that AS #500. redeeming feature for an exposed screw vise.

I have a 3” Lake Side V6/V7 like that on the welding bench

Here's an exposed screw vise that caught my eye. It's marked Walworth USA Boston, which was a manufacturer I hadn't heard of before, but there are several examples shown on GJ. It has interesting styling and a pretty massive screw! Not mine, but for sale on-line semi-locally.

Definitely a hard life, as confessed to by the seller, asking price of $60 Cdn which would only be $42.50 USD, but perhaps a bit far away.

A 'Gipsy' has been on my BOLO list for a long time.
They're not that hard to find but it took time to find one that wouldn't cost me various limbs.

I like that too, just watched a U-toob clip on one, it's different, don't know why they regarded it as a Steamfitters Vice thou, but now I know what a steamfitter is -

Usually a steam fitters vise has a couple of big notches in the back for bending pipe. maybe that was protected by patent at the time these were made?

Just bought this, been looking at it for a while, did some research but couldn't find anything, looks similar to a lot of the US vices posted in this thread with the pipe jaws, hoping someone has an idea, but basically bought it as I like the rounded handle mount and don't have many, could be missing a swivel base also. the price was good and my brain has yet to kick into gear so could be another early morning error of mine,

What I'm currently working on now:
A c.1940s Montgomery Ward Eclipse 84-6826 3" swivel vise. It appears to be a rebranded Columbian Red Arrow, except with replaceable jaws. I'm not a vise expert, so if anyone knows for sure please advise.


The jaws and other hardware are in a jar of evaporust.

Edit: I found this 1938 ad on Vintage Machinery, and it shows the Columbian Red Arrow having replaceable jaws. The 1940 catalog only has the 4" having replaceable jaws.

I don't think it's a red arrow - look at (and for) the stepped "eyebrow" above the main screw head.

For reference, here is my Red Arrow. I repainted mine with an industrial gray color and decided that a red arrow vise should feature an arrow painted red.

It is retired from active duty and enjoying itself surrounded by quite a few of its distant cousins up on shelves in my basement “vise museum”.

Picked this Wilton which has had hard life. Need to get parts to hold the dynamic jaw to the screw. The seller said a neighbor gave it to him so he didn't know why the slide has weld on it.

Slide prbably came loose from the jaw - is it welded both sides?

And looks like a snap ring groove from here

I guess I've never posted these lovelies. The tiny red one with the mangled handles was my first vise. Purchased at Vaughan Lumber (74th & So. Tacoma Way) when I was in 5th or 6th grade.
