No known problems. Guy said nothing leaked and it worked fine. Just bad battery. There's a sketchy hose for the triplex stage needing replaced but i know a guy who can get me a hose cheap...

Seals are dry. It's clearly sat inside all its life except for the little bit of rain i had it outside. With the time change it's dark when i get home, i've not had time to bring the battery or charger inside but that's happening this weekend since we probably have snow coming.

So half day work today, spent some time this afternoon moving the namco further into the shop so it's not blocking the doorway and lift. Mission accomplished. I followed up by bringing the battery in, and the battery charger. I've been looking at the charger and i think based on the only manual i can find online, it should be possible to rewire to single phase. So that's one thing.

The other is, i pulled all the caps on the battery, and measured voltages. EVERY cell is within 0.01V of 1.99V with most all being 1.99. Total is 35.95V. I am thinking this battery is ok. so i have to wonder, why is the guy selling it so cheap. I think i'm going to make an extension cord for the battery and plug the thing in and test it out. Before i worry about the charger. It's fairly involved to manhandle the battery into it, so i'm not doing it if the battery is somehow bad. If it works fine, i'm going to get the charger going and go for full Vs.

Good deal!! Hopefully the quick wire job will allow for some quick testing...

I have a skid steer down for the count, and waiting on some parts to try before digging into the issues too far. Im hoping it is simply the water separator is plugged. We shall see. Just finished reseating a popped tire bead. Took longer than necessary, but still easier than dragging to a tire shop, which was my back up plan.

I would definitely try a couple charging cycles, usually I find one at zero or one at .6 volts and then you know there is a problem. I am sure it will never have "new" capacity, but if it is used for an hour over the day it will probably be fine.

So haven't had time to work on the forklift. Friday afternoon found a cracked wheel on my car, it was bleeding down over a day or so. Tried to find the crack ends to fix it but monday night gave up and put snows on. Turned out to be a good plan, there was black ice all over the place on the way to work.

So a quick update, i have been working on the wiring, i've gotten the EV-1 panel swung down so i can see everything, and i moved the negative off the EV-1. Then connected to the other wiring it normally would connect to. Confirmed that the pump motor and contactor work good and ran the lift all the way up to the ceiling. It'll punch a hole right through the ceiling if i'm not careful.

Now i need to troubleshoot the drive motor and controller.

I suspect the ******* manager has none, they never do.
@83VillageRepair, many people believe IBM stands for International Business Machines. Those who worked there knew it meant Idiots Become Managers. I was one of those idiots with the secondary skill of IA (Incompetent *******). The higher I rose, the more I dulled my IA skills.

Sounds like a lot of folks got promoted to their level of incompetence!

Massive news incoming before too long. Stay tuned. Same bat channel.

Ok, can you give us a hint? Is the "massive news" related to:

-Work?

-Burner Season?

-Forklift?

-F350 Dually?

-2028 Presidential Ticket with 86 and Strouty? Your slogan could be, "Make diesels great again!"

Any further trouble shooting on the controller or the drive motor? Any way to bypass the controller to check the motor?

Thank you. Thanksgiving was good, family time with sister and mom. The rest of my vacation, not so much.

Kid's truck back on the lift, he's had a transmission issue for a while, clutch slave, and input shaft seal leaking. I pulled it no problem but getting it back in has been a bear. I'm getting alignment pins tonight and will keep at it.

The real problem is he's not gracious about me doing all this work for free. Constant complaints and door slamming about how long it's taking. He's not even helping. Nothing he can really do to help anyway.

I just want it done and gone

Oh, Interesting..... ug.

I think it would be finding him "something" to do productive to help.... washing dishes, cleaning toilets, sweeping the shop floor, sorting fasteners, etc in exchange for working on his truck.....

...if not cooperating, lower the truck off the lift and start rolling it back outside...

I know, I know, its your kid.... ;-p

Hopefully the alignment pins help. Picture of the transmission issue?

summary - the trans input shaft doesn't want to slide into the clutch disk. i looked at it with bore scope, the clutch splines line up. it's probably slightly misaligned and not dropping into the pilot bearing.

if he has no truck, he has no job. it gets worse for me too. i have no solution but finish at this point.
i don't have to do it next time though.

That's no fun. Had to wrassle a very reluctant 4x4 ZF-5 recently and had the same issues. Ended up using some all thread instead of bolts to get it lined up so I could jiggle it into place.

Glad to hear the shaft lined up and progress towards completion.

You're in a catch-22 situation with him, damned if you do (no gratitude) and damned if you don't (no job for him and he's back with you).

Perhaps you could get a rough cost estimate from a shop, and present him with a "bill" for the repair? Then he can either work it off doing odd jobs for you, or show some genuine gratitude for the effort you're putting in for him.

Parts washer with dirty parts might be a job for him! Any amount of progress he would make would be better than before, and hard to screw up at the parts washer.

Looking forward to updates on future forklift progress!

Hopefully that other thing called the "day job" is moving in a positive direction.

Yeah, one of the problems is the area we live in, has rust issues. Most shops around us refuse jobs on vehicles over 20 years old. So my support is almost required. We bought in Tennessee and it's been fluid filmed yearly. Rust is not an issue. Shops don't care.

A lot of shops these days can't figure out how to change the oil without plugging the scan tool in so it can tell them how to do it.

I am figuring 86 is similar to me, I help everyone to a fault, when things go sideways, I essentially blame myself and stick with it to make sure it is fixed/done/whatever.

Or it is elder abuse....

I have got just the opposite problem, my boy's raid my shop and seem to forget to return tools and equipment
back to where it belongs, or start a project, finish it and leave a big mess for me to clean up. But they are here
if I need help with something or especially help with their mother. I think I will keep them.

So winter is really starting to hit. Probably a month early if i'm being honest. I've still had no time to work on the tractor, so i've been relying on the snowblower on the zero turn. As many of you know, that's a prescription for being covered in snow every time you blow. I've been looking for a cab for the zero turn. run of the mill Grasshopper cab will fit the woods. Bought one a few weeks ago, that turned out to be fabricated, and i didn't feel like doing the amount of work needed to get that to fit right, so i found another factory built cab that was about 200 miles away for a good price.

Sunday the wife and i got in the car at 6AM and drove through a snowstorm to get it. With trailer in tow, over 4 hrs one way. At 40mph on the Interstate, surrounded by people with flashers on the whole way. We get there around 10-30, it looks perfect for the need, purchase, strap down and head back home.
We flew as fast as possible, so we could get back home in time to unhook and give the car to the kid so he could go to work for 3pm.

It was cold and windy, and i was tired from white knuckling it for hours. i didn't do much other than a few things around the house.

At 1130pm when the kid gets home, he raises hell about nothing being done on his truck while he worked.

Apparently, him not having his truck done is the only thing keeping him from conquering the world. He's a legend in his own mind.

I'm so ready to be done.
