Tekton and Screwdriver Pricing Nonsense

Why does it always seem that it’s Tekton where I find this type of nonsense.

I am looking for a single 4”, #2 phillips driver in black oxide to complete a set. Tekton has them on closeout and is out of stock through their website but lots of retailers also sell Tekton so I wasn’t worried about finding one.

The Tekton store on Amazon apparently has them in 2 piece sets. Perfect. The full retail price for this set of 2 drivers is $12 and the clearance price is down to $6.50 on the set of two.

Jump on Amazon to order and the 2 piece set is priced at $25.51 In the Tekton store.

That’s nice. Over twice retail.

Anybody know where I can get a 4”, #2 phillips with the hard handle and black oxide blade without getting raped and pillaged? Will happily pay full retail for a $6 screwdriver that sold for $3.85 but twice retail feels wrong to me.

The driver I’m looking for is model DSP11002.

Thanks and sorry to seem petty. I know it’s small money but I hate promoting this type of screwjob dollar amount be damned. I’m sure it has something to do with Amazon resellers setting their own prices, the ‘Tekton‘ store not really being a Tekton store, etc.

Amazon isn't the seller here. Tools are an anomoly for this seller who clearly has overpriced it. Someone (P.T. Barnum had something to say about that) may want it bad enough to bite.
Good luck, I like these handles too.

This. TEKTON is excellent on pricing:
- buy direct and get points, but pay shipping at <$25 order
- buy from amazon/Home Depot (from tekton), and shipping is free, but no pts.

You are frustrated that a 3rd part seller is selling at a different price? Thats like going to FBMP and buying used and being upset at *** company for the pricing some individual is asking.

I think you owe TEKTON an apology 😀
If you are frustrated TEKTON discontinued a screwdriver line, that’s fair.

I’d wait for Tekton.com

Sir, I’m gonna have to ask you to calm down. LOL.

Ignore this thread.

I have no idea why I have 2 of the exact same threads going. This looks like it was posted before I finished typing the first thread.

I clarified in my other thread with the exact issue. Zero blaming Tekton. Frustrated that I have a 19 piece set of these drivers with the 4” #2 phillips as the only missing driver to complete the set. Forcing myself to pay $25 to complete this set has hurt me deeply enough that I’m complaining about it to strangers on the internet on Thanksgiving.

Dup thread?

Weird. Looks like that thread was posted before I finished typing it.

People over there beating me up for Tekton hating. It’s the opposite. If I hated Tekton, I would not have just purchased 18 new screwdrivers from them in both hard handle and high torque handle.

I already bought the driver that completes the set in chrome. It was $3.85. The other 18 are black oxide and the token chrome driver will drive my OCD crazy. I paid $31 for the 18 drivers. Killer deal. One more for $25, not so much.

^ You can find third-party sellers peddling their wares at outrageous inflated prices in any brand. It's not exclusive to Tekton.

FTR: it's Thanksgiving - a National Holiday.

Really kind of doubt anybody at Tekton is at their desks reading emails today.

Puzzled that you would get all lathered up about this when Vessel makes such a better screwdriver.

They replied yesterday without issue or hesitation. The answer sucked but they were nonetheless prompt.

I already have the compo Vessel set and the megadora set. I’m not buying Vessels at the moment. I’m buying hard handled US made Tektons.

Don’t be puzzled. Move on.

Maybe buy the cheapest Tekton handle you can find in another tip and swap out the shank with a quality #2 Phillips from another vendor. Fixes the quality problem with the Tekton drivers, and provides the handle you like. The US manufacturing workers were paid long ago. I hope they found other work for the workers when Tekton dumped them. I don’t think Tekton or their sub-distributers should be rewarded for doing that. I certainly understand the psychological damage caused by being one driver short of a set, even if I knew I was never going to use them!

nope... they sure don't.
their top-of-the-line "Power Grip" "hard handle" is 100% made in Japan. (y)

The Germans and Americans might figure out how to catch up some day.

In the old PF comparison test for accelerated wear of a P2 driver, Wiha and PB Swiss tied for #1 in durability; Wera was #2; Vessel was middle of the pack at #3 with Craftsman, Felo.... Tekton USA was #5; HF Pittsburg was last at #6.

Funny how some people are so worked up about an inferior screwdriver line becoming NLA just because it had hard handles and was made in the US. I don't own any Witte screwdrivers, but I'm guessing they're going to be a significant improvement over the previous Tekton product, since only HF Pittsburg was worse. Somehow inferior blades are fine when paired with hard handles and US made.

^ That sounds reasonable to me. I have never held a Wiha or PB Swiss or Wera or Felo or Pittsburgh, so I can only go by the comments from members on this website. In regard to The first three, the comments are overwhelmingly positive.

Screwdriver production is a highly automated process these days. The few people that worked there probably just got tasked with another job.

Funny how some people are so worked up about an inferior screwdriver line becoming NLA just because it had hard handles and was made in the US.
It seems like the selling point for many people were the handles, which is understandable, because unfortunately there aren't many manufacturers left offering classic hard handles.
If they had bought just the blades in Germany and then put their own handles on them in the US, they probably would have become bestsellers.

Duplicate thread happens sometimes. No, both threads merged, original posts merged and edited to deleted double material.

I’ve wanted hard handles for years. The reason is because I don’t currently own any. I already have soft sets from Vessel, Wiha, Wera, Witte, Tekton, Craftsman, Husky, Icon, Kobalt, PB Swiss and Stahwille. Probably others as well as I know I also have a few Kleins and SK’s laying around. I have a lot of screwdrivers and buy them to have moreso than to use. I buy and sell them constantly. The last driver in this new Tekton set is more to complete a collection rather than to complete a working set. That’s why it being black oxide vs. chrome matters (to me).

95% here will not understand this but it doesn’t matter. I do the same with guns, guitars, and a few other things. OCD and the enjoyment of the hunt. If you’re friend or family, you’re probably getting either a screwdriver set or an ammo can filled with goodies for Xmas.

Socket sets are another issue…

The original list price went out the window when they became obsolete. The new value is based on going from a once consumable to a now collectible. The supply and demand ratio changes when products cease production. If you are trying to complete a set, I would go ahead and get the one you need while its still to be had. $20 is not a hard pill to swallow these days...

Like Pet Rocks, Beanie Baby’s, Hummels, and Tulips?

My wife’s uncle has four thousand beer cans I can probably hook you up with in a couple of years, since he’s past ninety now.

That reminds me of the story with the Malco Eagle Grips. After production ceased because they couldn't sell enough of them, a bunch of Influencers caused a ruckus and the prices on remaining stock exploded. The tool market these days is a Circus.

Even if you pay $25.00 for one your still at $56.00 for the whole set which is less than $3.00 a screwdriver.

James
But then your OCD freaks out about the extra screw drivers from the set. You can not just toss them out, too good to toss. You can't just give them away, my God it is an incomplete set!! You can't keep them because they are incomplete. So you spend the rest of your days looking for that one screw driver to complete the set you bought to replace the missing screw driver in the set that..........
:ROFLMAO:

I have a buddy that is like this. Some days I make him crazy! I few months ago I bought a new set of screwdrivers to replace a worn out set of Snap-On screw drivers. When he heard I tossed the Snappies, he about lost it. Fortunately I was able to talk him down!:ROFLMAO:

He should just go to Walmart, buy the cheapest screwdriver available with a red plastic handle, and fill the empty space.

95% of the population will never notice.

Sort ol’ like one of those what’s different puzzles that used to appear in the Sunday comics.

Curious.... Have you tried the Williams? Something like this

Some of my favorite... I understand wanting the full set...

I just grabbed the 1/4 and 3/8 small body stubby ratchets from texton. Took a look at the clearance and picked up hex screwdrivers 2,3,4,5,6mm @ $2.69-3.65ea. No 2.5mm avail. And I need for my mtn bike. $15.16 from a 3rd party seller. Damn Texton 😀. IMG_9835.jpeg

Thought I had an extra one I’d send you but it’s the chrome shaft w black oxide tip. Not the full black oxide shaft.
