How about using construction H-beams? Are these also in short supply and super expensive?
Alternatively, you can use H-beams. I plan to use this one.

I don't know how to properly call it in English, we call it a channel (швеллер). The wall thickness is approximately 5 mm. Or alternatively a square tube of 60X60X3 mm.

Winter has come, and it started unexpectedly, as always :) That's the picture we had on the track a week ago. I returned safely, having given up the idea of going to the village.

I've made some progress on my tractor. I had some old wheels that I found a few years ago in a landfill. I pumped them up and it turns out they hold the air. For now, I will use them to build and test the tractor.

Here in Mi, we had our first snow on Nov 9 and pretty much has not let up since ! Last week we had about 10” of snow. And temperatures have been oscillating crazy from +5 c to -15 c .

But then again, this is typical Mi weather. As the saying goes “ Michigan weather, if you don’t like it, wait 10 min and it will change.

Using the old tires for the mockup is a great idea!

I just wanted to wish you and your family a peaceful Christmas and New years festive season.

Thank you for all of your posts and sharing a small insight into your life in Russia with us out here in a different world, populated by people who are actually all the same.

May the new year bring you many spare parts and easier access to the internet and communication systems like WhatsApp.

Take it back puppy. I cut my teeth on that.
You and me both. Learned to drive in the white stuff in an old Ford F-100 and Dad refused to put any weight in the box. Only saw him get stuck once, when the road was super icy. The truck slid part way through the intersection, with the front wheels were on one side of the crown and the rears on the other. Mom, bro, and I got out to push. When Dad dumped the clutch, we pushed it sideways 90* so it was facing the direction of the road and off we went. Me, not quite as good, but I've still only been stuck about 1 handful of times. And usually because I was out having too much fun.

Stay warm Vlad, and I hope you and yours have happy holidays.

Myself as well.
I learned to drive in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
I lived in Munising on the shores of Lake Superior for several years.
We got the lake effect snow there in spades.

Vladimar, Merry Christmas!

Minor changes to the tractor. I bought the material for making the frame, I managed to find only 1.5 meters channel and about the same amount of an I-beam, also 10 cm. I had to shorten the gimbal as much as possible, otherwise the tractor turns out to be very long. So far, I've only fixed the rear axle and transfer case. It turns out something like this, and it's not a fact that this is the final version, there may be some more alterations.

Vlad, cat is awesome! Tractor and steel, make me ask are you having trouble finding other bits, like welding rod, and fasteners. Also noted 2 books, what do you like to read. We're about to get another dose of cold weather, was 64f yesterday dropping back to the 20s. More typical, Stay warm and well!
Thanks! There are no problems with finding fasteners, welding electrodes and other things. Besides, I have a stock of bolts and nuts. I don't throw away fasteners when I'm disassembling something. I use the electrodes from the Turkish company MAGMAWELD. Very good price-quality ratio. A package (3kg) costs about $12. I use them if I need to weld thick metal.

The tractor is coming along well. Great job!

I have said this before and I will say it again. IMHO , those who build something out of nothing with limited resources and tools are much more creative, talented than those with ample resources. And therefore deserve a lot more admiration and respect.

As for the cat, that is very funny and amusing posture.

Here just before Christmas, the temperature was hovering in teens during day and single digits at nighttime. Then it shot up to 50 degree or so and all the snow melted. Yesterday, all day long it was raining cats and dogs.

Then in the evening and over night the temp plummeted and right now is 14 F with 20 to 30 mph wind and blowing snow. The polar vortex has once again descended upon us!

Here is a view from backyard

I worked on the tractor frame a little more. Now we need to fix the engine and think about how to make the front axle. I originally wanted to make all-wheel drive, but unfortunately I have axles with different gear ratios, and the transfer case that I use does not allow me to turn off the front axle. So I abandoned the idea of all-wheel drive. I also got a hydraulic pump. I bought it inexpensively for about $12. I think this is a good price for a pump made in the USSR and which was stored in grease.

I went on vacation to my house in the village. We have a snowstorm here for the second day.

The New Year holidays are over. I returned to the city, worked in the office again, and continued working on my tractor in the evenings. I've made a mount for the winch, lifted the engine, and am starting to attach it to the frame. So far, I'm doing all the fasteners for marking. After I put everything in place, I'll take everything apart again, weld all the welds well, paint the frame and continue the assembly. At this stage, the project looks like this.

Thank you all!

Yes, the rest was peaceful. The only thing that caused some inconvenience was the bad weather. Snow and blizzard almost every day. And it's still going on. And once the city was attacked by drones, but they were all destroyed by air defense calculations and there was no destruction or casualties. I drive the Oka car to work because it's small and light and it's much easier to get it out of a snowdrift. This photo was taken this morning, it gives an idea of the amount of snow that has fallen and about traffic jams. Usually this intersection is passed without problems, but now you have to stand for a while letting cars pass.

I disassembled the tractor frame to properly weld all the fasteners. In the process of rust removal before painting, I found a number, now it will be the number of the tractor frame ;). We have severe frosts, and the temperature has been below -20 degrees Celsius for several days. This is what the smoke from my neighbor's garage chimney looks like.Номер.jpg

Well that is cold. We're on the cusp of 10 days of below freezing with one possible exception. I'll be building a big pile of firewood and burning outdoors, as we have snow cover and frozen ground. Gonna be chilly here riding around on the tractor. Stay Warm!
