Extra conduits run under the slab? Man, you get some kind of award for that! PLAN AHEAD.
Where I ran one I ran four. I think there are a total of something like 60 conduits under the floor lol. I started digging them in with a spade and said **** it after about 10 minutes and got the mini and dug a 2’ wide trench everywhere I ran conduits lol. Figured you can only do it once !! I think I’ve filled at least 10 of them after the initial electrical install.

Christmas vacation shop projects continue. I had a drawer of pliers that was….not organized.

IMG_3098.jpeg

I used an idea someone posted on here many years ago to make a custom holder. Some 1/4” all thread with pex tubing cut for spacers between some pieces of 2”x1/8” aluminum flat bar.

IMG_3100.jpeg

It doesn’t quite hold everything that was there before, but at least I can find what I am looking for.

Once I get the other drawers done and everything put in lace, I’ll add labels to the drawer side as to what is in that slot.

Nice work there, I would have rounded off the sharp corner on the dividers to eliminate the chance of cutting myself.

Put together a Christmas gift for the youngest granddaughter last night.KIMG3400.JPG
Early career training?

I got the fire going at Rocky's shop. Hoping to swap out the clutch and pull the axles and CVs off the wheels today. New CVs are predicted to be here on Tuesday next. I'll check the rear wheel bearing while I'm back there.

Still taking it easy, light duties only and yesterday it rained a little, so nothing outside.

Leaves are mostly dry, or drying out, so more raking today. Detail hand picked the oak leaves from plants in the under window planter, and starting to edge from the front patio to the side yard opposite the Alder tree side (Allergies on that side...) for more oak leaves - lots of mushrooms over there...

I got the axles off

55002217038_dd7d450299_o.jpg

and brought them over to the TG shop, where I have good lighting and a bench I can work on. I'll save the best-looking two for road spares.

I opened the clutch box to find out that the new clutch isn't--but the receipt for the new one was still in the box--one year old. I'll hang onto this one, as it's plenty good enough for a spare.

Got started on the beginning of the start of the timing belt job. I made a flywheel lock so I can pull the crankshaft pulley.

55002052766_23289b33da_o.jpg

Just like the ones we used to use for VWs. That only took about a half-dozen trips back and forth between the two shops. I'll be using the rattle gun to get the pulley bolt out so the lock doesn't need to be particularly stout.

Got the muffler clamp bolts off so I can get the muffler, cat and heat shield off tomorrow and maybe even get the job done.

I hit them all with an abrasive disc in the die grinder so they are more rounded than they appear. I thought about putting a nice radius on each, but this was already more of a time sink than I wanted it to be.

Congrats on retirement!

I've almost completed month 10, and am still acclimating a bit.
Congrats to us all, I also retired earlier this year and while I was still working, I had a countdown timer that I looked at everyday. Funny thing is, it's now counting up how long I've been retired.... :lol_hitti

After drilling out the spot welds and removing the remainder of the cut up panel, I spent what seemed like an entirety cutting that piece and the scrap piece a clean edge.

Try as I did, I had a very hard time getting the exact cut on each piece for an absolute zero gap, but at the end of the day we had a new bedside, mostly fusion/autogenous welded. There were a couple blowouts where I had to get ugly with the filler, but very minimal and I used MIG wire as welding rod. Yes - the top looks out of level, that’s because it’s raised higher on that side via the black sawhorse, but unwieldy due to the Swiss cheese factor.

IMG_3902.jpeg

The lows were working out well with the hammer and dolly.

IMG_3904.jpeg

I did leave a little strip up at the top that I’ll be trimming down to fit up in the final gap. Ran out of steam and had to duck inside to wrap presents.

IMG_3903.jpeg

Next up I’ll be finishing up the top of the seam, continue hammer/dolly, then I’ll sand a bit to see where we stand.

Waiting on parts after that.

Congrats Mark!

I had one my youngest sent me like that, but I had built in a day counter in my diary I keep in Excel, and inverted it for days into retirement: 298.

I *finally* hooked up my air hose reel! NBD, except I bought the thing years ago, hung it up, but never plumbed it. I ponied up for the heavier Type L copper pipe ($$$) and hooked it up. I was kind of forced to, as my elderly red rubber hose was leaking like crazy. No more hose laying all over the shop floor! I also bought a little under-counter fridge from our neighbor, so I now really have no reason to go into the house all day.

Looks like it's going to be a TG work day. I checked my emails this AM to find a list of a half-dozen things needing to be dealt with around the pub and kitchen.

Adjust the thermostat on a prep table--apparently, the idea that the thermostat setting and actual temperature don't have to agree, as long as the thermo is set to make up for the difference.

Clean or replace the vent fan in the pub bathroom. I hope I can get it working with a cleaning and oiling (it's screaming), as there's not much chance of buying a new one today.

Feed the cats. What? They're cats. Can't they just devastate the local wildlife? Oh, well, damned pampered pests....

A bunch of other fiddly ****.

Plus the hose reel in the shop, which likely just needs an o-ring or two. I think ACE is open at least part of the day and has a good selection of o-rings. I also need to pull the hose off and cut the end down where it's started to crack badly--but I'll do that on a day when NAPA is open so I can have them hydraulically crimp new ends on.

Since we're closed today, it's a good time to just wander through the plant listening for more air leaks. When we're up and running, it's just too loud to really hear anything.

Then work on a Rinnai again--oh, joy... I'm hoping it's just a temp sensor, but I may need to tear it apart and replace the secondary HX. Fortunately, I have a spare.

We have another Pacific storm blowing in this AM. We're already seeing gusts over 65 mph @50F. Not good for the snowpack at all. Hoping the trees all stay up this time.

I've been wanting a nice desk magnifier. I picked up this Luxo-Vision 5x LED magnifier.

25-12-23-Luxo-5x-Magnifier.jpg

My desk is an antique that doesn't have an edge I can clamp on, so I made a wall mount for it.

25-12-23-Magnifier-Mounting-Bracket.jpg

A piece of 1/2" x 2 1/2" aluminum drilled and tapped for 10-24 screws then attached to a longer piece of 1/4" x 2 1/2" aluminum so it could be mounted to a stud. Works great. I think I am really going to like this magnifier. It sure wasn't cheap, but it is crystal clear with variable brightness LED's

Fixed a hole, or better put in the process of fixing a hole in drywall. Seems a weak spot or defect from 50 year old DW gave out. Broke it away until it felt solid all around. About the size of silver dollar and the DW isn't the regular thickness in that spot, hence why it gave out.

I go to my garage and rummage through my supplies.

Stout cardboard, check

Drywall mesh tape, check.

Tools, well putty knife and bar clamp, check

String check.

spackle.......... huh, yeah but no good as it's pretty old, So I go get some, local hardware store was open until noon. It's pink and should turn white when ready.

I have some powder that I could've mixed up and some of that "rock hard" puddy to mix, but that's not for this, really and it is pretty old too. That rock hard material is a pain to sand down.

So, I make up the cardboard and mesh tape plug and fish a string though it. Butter it real good so that'll stick on the inside and fold it into the hole. Then pull it tight and keep it in place with string wrapped around the bar clamp attached to the hand rail for the stairs. I'm not done obviously and will need some more smoothing later on once it's dry and I can cut the string out.

Plugged my new innova 5610 scanner into our 17 santa fe. I got the scanner from the hot deals thread. My youngest is home, srs light is on. New scanner can read it. Code b149000, seems to be a RF seat sensor issue. When he comes home in the spring I'll pull it apart. New toy is fun. The bore scope and circuit tester they sent work too, was messing with those as well.

Then I cleaned some stuff up, threw some junk on FBMP, then rolled 4 more rolls of quarters in my slow moving coin rolling project lol.

Oh, and did quick modifications to 3 inflatables lol
