Bob, that is so true in my life. Our Company is large enough, that I've worked with a few foreign, turned US Citizens, and they all have been great. Very hard workers, and the stories they could tell from their old country are just amazing. I haven't been out of the United States in my lifetime... At least not yet, but won't until I retire. Possibly then, we can travel to another Country. Possibly Canada or Mexico, for starters...

I went shopping at Best Buy, the other day... Looking for something for my son, Travis, for Christmas... I went to the store in Maplewood. We had just bought him a 3-D printer for his birthday. It's a Bambu A1. That store was disappointing... They only had about three spools of PLA... Not what I expected to see. So I ended up buying him a $100 gift card. While there, the gal I talked to really suggested to go to the store in Oakdale, instead. Much larger store. Plus, he could use the gift card online, to Best Buy.

I live in a city of about 250,000 here in the U.S. A few years ago, the death toll (all weapons) was 47. Back when the city was half this size, it was more like 20-22/yr.

@Squankum, seems like the death rate hasn't changed. Double the population, three to seven more may mean more bad people or more deserving victims. One innocent victim is too much but gang shootouts or family fights may mean something else is going on. We have two .22 pistols we've never fired, an ancient .32 Beretta taken off a dead body in Europe (damn, it's my age) and a Civil War muzzle loader officer's pistol. Just doing my best to be an American.

Bob, here's a song from a band that is a descendant of one of my favorite "seals barking over jackhammers" bands, but it's pleasant. Guy can't sing, but it's pleasant!

Bob, you never cease to amaze me... (Ohoh, what did Bob do now?). You said something that really struck me as a nice thing to say. Since I'm so computer illiterate on Android side of things, I couldn't "copy and paste" just part of your writings... To comment on. So, I took it in my best interest to write your thoughts down, in long hand, in cursive, so I could just type it again... If you don't believe me, here it is...

Rick, I limit the use of my Android phones so anyone receiving a text or phone call from my primary cell phone is shocked and always asks: "Who is this and what do you want?" For an additional $6 a month I have a secondary phone so I can fill out that "required" number for sites I never want to to contact me (I don't even turn it on). The third cell is a flip phone hidden in the compartment under the PT Cruiser's front passenger seat. In the event she needs to call me, she can hand it to someone who won't let her use theirs and let them turn it on and place the call. I certainly do believe you write stuff down in long hand cursive. My 'Geezer Book" sits on the desk between my keyboard and the monitor (a half-dozen more filled ones live in one of the office cabinets). Because of an ad that appeared on my monitor, I skipped the $18 and printed a label for less than 1¢.

I grew up traveling with my parents in North America so wanting to see more of the world was a natural thing for me. I'm always a little sad to hear people say they'll travel after they retire. We started traveling outside North America when we were 32. We took our last big overseas trip when we were 54. We live within 50 miles of three major international air and sea ports so it's less hassle than most places but between the chaos of departure and return, it's a lot of stress and it's over too soon. An Australian friend of ours who turns 77 in February is still traveling. In May she is departing from Sydney, Australia on the Crown Princess cruise ship and returning in September. The cruise is visiting 48 destinations, 31 Countries and 6 Continents.
I guess it's never too late.

Santa Cheryl gave me a SiriusXM radio receiver for Christmas. Along with an Android tablet, to hook up to my stereo, without the use of my phone. Sirius is now installed on my new tablet, (an app) but not the actual XM radio receiver. I need a cord to hook the XM radio to the tablet. (Reason is to support Bluetooth to my stereo.) I could hook my new Sirius radio to my Denon receiver, but it came with a short cord. So I'd have to put the new radio very near the receiver... Not what I want, and I'd lose Bluetooth on the stereo, for using Spotify.... Too far away, I'd like it on my workbench, instead. My new tablet is set to go, but can't get a wifi signal in the shop... (Faraday cage...). And can't hook up to Bluetooth on the stereo, probably lack of Wifi signal... I tell you, one step forward, two steps backwards. But feel that we are making progress. I'd prefer to look at this, in such a way, that we're making progress, with a few wrinkles along the way. I think that's a better way to think about things. We'll get there eventually.

I don't like using my phone in the shop to run the stereo, as it does so many more things.... If my phone takes duty to run the stereo all day long, I have an app to count my steps, for example... I can walk around all day long and don't get credit for that. I have my phone hooked up to my Mom's Ring doorbell camera, and she always gets visitors and I get alerts just in the middle of my favorite song on the stereo.... My music gets lower in volume, and that's ok, but if a visitor actually pushes the doorbell button, well use your imagination as that makes a ding-dong happen on my stereo, of a few hundred watts, and six speakers cranked up, slightly.... I don't need that. I can adjust my phone to not get alerts from her doorbell camera anymore, but she screwed up her phone, so the work I put into her phone, by hiring the Geek Squad, from Best Buy, doesn't work anymore on her phone.

My last phone didn't get traded in on the current one, and like you I'm not a real fan of tying my communicator up when Spock may be trying to find me/beam me up, so I keep the replaced one in the workshop, with all the apps still functioning except the phone app. I had to get a network extender put in the workshop window, as like your place, my shop is pretty much a faraday cage at 5G frequencies. Also, since Sirius is available to stream, I get my monies worth, running the Sirius app on the old phone and using a bluetooth appliance to link to the sound systems in my workshop and barn.

Gerry, nobody wants my phones when I'm done with them. Probably because I replace my phone when the network no longer supports the technology (waxed string and tin can phone went out first). I keep them around to use as a camera when my hand is filthy dirty. I kept the last one just to have a live number to put in the Phone #: [Required] field, knowing calls and messages from them are never answered.

Thank you Roger and the same back to you. Nine of the multitude gathered at our second grandson's place in Boca for a nice roast beef, lobster tail and sides with homemade tiramisu for desert. At the moment, sitting up is uncomfortable so I'm going to lie down for a 'long winter's nap.'

I don't really have a personal thread I just interject comments from time to time. With the way things are going I might be taking the dirt nap before you. But it is the Holidays and try not to dwell on that I just up the approved pain management medication.
We are due for 8 inches of frozen creek today.....

Bob, I agree with you on the fact that I don't use my Android Smart-*** phone to its fullest extent. I do have to depend on it, to keep me safe and honest... That being said, I do have an app on my phone that watches my position, on the Earth. It is called Life360... I don't normally use it, to check on Cheryl, but our immediate family has this installed... The only time I use it would be to see if Cheryl is away, and I thought of something that she could pick up, if she is very near the closest Walmart. One time, Cheryl wanted to track my progress on my way home from work, (in inclement weather) and the software told her that I'm screwed and I ended up at the bottom of the St. Croix River... I made it home, just minutes later, but she did have some concerns about my safety... I did get a big hug from her that evening... So, the software isn't perfect and I can imagine the bad weather really affected things. But it mostly works, most of the time...

I'll disagree to a certain extent, I compare my over the ear headphones to what I got out of a good set of 3 or 4 way floor standing speakers like the Infinity's I just gave away. I cannot get any where's near that same quality out of ear buds.

I would have to agree with your thoughts about home stereo equipment. Sorry, that it took this long to respond to your writings.... But, I agree with you, that a home stero, with a few hundred watts of power, and floor-standing speakers are the way to go. In my case, I have three sets of speakers, stacked up, within inches to the ceiling, in my "tin can" of a shop.( Shipping container...) I agree with you, with your dislike of opera. I really don't do (see) musicals... Type of movies, either, unless you consider the movie... Grease. That one was my exception. I still own the book, have the album set, and watched the movie several times, and have the VHS version of it in a box, somewhere in this house. I don't normally like Broadway shows, but was "forced" to go to one in the Twin Cities, since the Rockettes came to town, and my niece was part of the show. That one put some tears in my eyes, watching them (and my niece) dancing. When we first got there (it was a sold out show) I had to sit in the balcony. After half-time break, the Rockettes asked for a volunteer from the audience... Of course, my niece raised her hand, and they picked her.. ( it was pre-arranged, and the niece had been practicing with them the prior few weeks..). So, I could take her seat for the second half of the show, a few rows back from the stage.
