Not much today. No hangover, just feeling unmotivated with this gloomy weather.

As long as the woodshop is all discombobulated, I spent some time figuring out improved dust collection. I had some bits and pieces laying about, but like any plumbing project, not enough of the right fittings.

I’ve also come to the conclusion that electrically controlled blast gates would be optimal, but the ones I’ve found so far are priced a bit too high for my taste. This will require some more pondering…

fiddling around again with ubuntu, we upgraded our Imac to a laptop and I am using the old Imac in the shed, its mainly been a time waster / pita but I'm getting there...........constant WiFi dropouts has made me start a return for credit on the new router I purchased a little while back, just got the old router re-installed and getting ready to package the new one up ( I only rescued it from the garbage bin in the shed last week)
Its Friday here and supposed to be a normal work day but freight has been a little quiet and new years eve the boss said "just give us a call on Friday morning, I did that and they said have the day off ! , you beauty, another 4 day weekend for me

Now I'm trying to figure out how to mount the two shelves I made for the beer cooler the other day.

I tried to find a couple of studs. No luck. Drilled a dozen tiny holes where studs should be; nothing. The walls are OSB, so no use in a stud-finder.

Then I recalled that the cooler walls are off-set 2X6 on 2X12 plates--so 4' between studs on the inside. The shelves are 3' long and will sit right in between two studs. I'll screw them into the 5/8" OSB and use some Liquid Nails for insurance. They only need to support a couple of six-packs each, so that should be plenty stout. I hope I never have to move them.

Used strut channel spanning three studs to wall mount a TV today. The 2008 52" 79 pound TV, seems like it was a flagship model back in the day, now it's freely given away! If a larger TV comes along the TV mount can be shifted over.
Attempted to give the angle grinders a home. Pulled the doors off the cabinet and mounted the bent sheet metal Amazon special.

Looking at the prices now I think one would be much better off just running some flat bar/angle iron along than paying $15 per slot. With a DIY solution the angle grinders can sit where ever, as with these holders you can see a handle is crashing into another tool.

Easy paced work on the drill press. Finished cleaning the hardware and sourcing replacements as needed. Assembled the quill with new bearings and clean parts. Pretty happy with it, need one more large o-ring that functions as the bumper for the return of the quill.

Roughed out the plate to cover the holes in the base to keep debris from falling through. I'm in the R&D phase of 2 spring/ tension fasteners to hold it in place.

Researching blast cabinet options, decent one on C'list for a OK price, but it's just far enough away to hold me up from making a call.

Thought I took more pics, just 1 evidently.

don't you go showing me up !
And here you go. In order from left to right.
The old handle. The rehandled iron. The lightly fixed iron.
IMG_20260101_114538.jpg
And a baseboard heater that I prepped for the owner. Lots of white lead.
IMG_20260101_125409.jpg
And I also burned a whole herd of creches for painting and assembly.

Finished putting the Krag back together, although I still need a couple parts. Not sure if I will order them or make them.

Also packed up junk, contemplated the newish lathe and it's motor. In other words, I am not too happy with it. Nothing wrong, per say, but I think I have a better one, at least wiring wise.

Uh, Kay? Are you aware that Christmas was last week?
Silly boy, I'm now way ahead of the curve.
Actually, my health being what it is, what would have normally been a few days in October, dragged out to a few months. It is what it is. And what it is, looking on the bright side, is prepared. I've got to get the rest of the counts from Judy, so I'm done burning for the rest of the year. Then I can churge forward-ish on a CAD and 3D print project. Then I can move on to the next page in my to-do list.

how did you mount the handle ?
Mine is a little loose and I was thinking of gluing it with epoxy or making some little cuts in the shaft like sharks teeth that go in the opposing direction to the pull of the handle

I saved a few bucks on my new house by having them hang sheetrock, but not do any finish work. Well now I get to pay for it.

I spent the last two days taping the walls of my 1250sqft garage, and just got started on the ceiling today. I have a long way to go.

Disregard the giant pile of ****. ;)
I don’t envy you, drywall finishing is not my forte, I would rather pay a pro, better job and way less time.

Continued on cleaning, flinging, and putting away. Workbench still has too much stuff on it, but less. Some of the tools from dad’s house have their new homes, others are still being looked at to decide where they’re going to go.

One way to get stuff off my bench is to actually do the thing that I bought the supplies for.

So, my 5D MagLite got converted from D cells to 18650 Lithium cells today. That gets the 12” PVC pipe fragment, the 1/2” PVC couplers, the 1/2” copper pipe fragment, and the copper pipe caps off my bench and out of the way.

One new thing I did on this one was to take a pack of WalMart sinkers and pound them round-ish so that they would fit in the copper pipe. This provides some of the missing heft and balance when removing the D cells.

I ground spiral groves on the shaft with the corner of the grinding wheel, then epoxied the handle to the shaft. It's more than enough for a torch iron.

Looks like a ballroom or event center with that size and a nice bar off to the side. Will it be a cash bar? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

In my neverending search for more floor space, I decided to mount my hydraulic press on the wall so I can swing it out of the way when not in use. I fabricated some mounting brackets and an adjustable leg for the outside edge. The weight is primarily resting on top of the concrete frost wall and the wall brackets, which are secured with 3” lag bolts, don’t see a great deal of load. I made a bronze spacer to carry the hinge load and removable pin at the top so the whole thing can be removed relatively easily. I went from a 5 square foot footprint to almost zero.

You aren't talking about the new Logan right?
yes, it is cheap, just a trigger guard screw. But, waiting, and I am hemorrhaging enough money lately (Xmas and my B-day is in a couple weeks), so feeling a little skinflint.

And yes, the Logan. Mostly thinking that I have an instant reverse motor of the same size (3/4hp), but I want to see if the wiring is of the same type as what I have in there right now, which I do not like; flag connectors, which I could go in and change out, but I don't want to cut back on the internal wiring if I can help it, as that always come back to bite me in the ***.

While I want to get the lathe squared away as soon as possible, as it is taking up the middle of my tiny shop, I don't want to do this twice.
Silly boy, I'm now way ahead of the curve.

I hear you about the health. I have MS, which makes everything twice as difficult. And three times as long to do.

I plan to move in a few of my cars in and enjoy it with family and friends only . The bar area was a former retail counter for an appliance store from the late 1930's to mid 70's. I had/have no plans to public use of this area but it does scream bar to me as well. Maybe the next owner can decide when I finished playing with it:)

Had a great day of just puttering. Got the TV mount cleaned up and tucked in the corner, with an HDMI feed from the laptop. Purchased a mount with a gas strut to allow for up down motion, which will allow for pulling the TV down towards the counter top when working with schematics and what not.

And got a few snow plow souvenir's hung up :)

By the way, that C4 looks really nice. I love black but won’t have another black car myself because it turns into a job trying to keep it clean and shiny. My current vette is red mist metallic tintcoat.

Decides to start tackling one of those someday projects. I took the fastener from my Dad's house when he decided to downsize.

Combined my fastener horde with his and use my wife's label maker.

Got the hex head bolts, nuts and washers from those two clusters sorted between 1/4" - 1/2".

Hopefully some things will be true going forward...I'll never need to buy carriage bolts, 3/8-24 hex nuts and 1/4-20 bolts again.

Also I'll be able use my time and energy on my projects not hunting for fasteners or going to buy more.

The wiring harness for my wife's explorer finally showed up today. So I soldered it on to the ol' Alpine CD player's harness, and it's ready to install. I'm having a hell of a time with carpal tunnel pain today (and all this week), so I think I'm done with manual labor today. I'll finish the install later.
