All of our associate race teams are on the same page. Whenever a car gets put out to pasture, we all ask each other whom wants what, and then figure out how to assist each other. It helps everyone involved.

This car has a LOT of cool stuff done to it.
still waiting on the build threads..... ;)

Yesterday - Moved some mower parts and misc other things around and changed the oil, adjusted tire pressures, topped off wiper fluid in my daily. Need to refill my oil filter supply. Checked out possible location for some aux lights. Wiped down the door, hood, hatch weatherstripping with some silicone.

Finally got the shelf project done:

55020040371_60e4fa550e_o.jpg

Only two screws per shelf until the PTB give me the OK. Once I glue them down with construction adhesive, they're pretty much permanent.

They're supposed to be for beer samples for the employees to taste. Boss wants a section for each employee with their name on the front.

Yesterday, I screwed around with stuff I get paid for, then got something useful accomplished:

55018655660_61ba9627ae_o.jpg

Cleaned the Vanagon axles up and slapped a few coats of Safety Red Rustoleum on 'em. I think the red looks sharp--and it's what I had on National Hangover Day, when all the stores were closed.

Hit the VSS sender plate while I was at it:

Back to waiting for parts....

One side cut out, painted all inside surfaces and tacked together then cut just to slide a 42” back on. Hated the gap at the front from prior to the wheelbase stretch.

this weekend will see cut out properly and fender flare riveted on somewhat as it will need to be removed for final welding, smoothing and primer/paint. Other side is to get done as well. Another rattle can for this year then when I get one year of seat time it will see a Toyota color in charcoal for a real paint job with Endura clear coat over it.

Continuing on the cleaning, flinging, putting away, and finishing things I started a while ago…

Cut some scraps of PVC 1x2 to mount a small plastic “hand towel” bar under the shelf that goes over the deep sink. This gives me somewhere to hang things like paint brushes that I want to drip dry.

Of course, I meant to do this back when I was painting the house,b garage, and shed. That’s all done, no painting planned any time soon. But now I’m ready.

A while back, I asked for suggestions on keeping the tension pin used as a hinge from walking out of the hole.

IMG_8452.jpeg

I’m trying some “bearing stick“ Loctite, since I have it, it’s been on my bench since I fixed my shop vac a few months ago.

IMG_8453.jpeg

We’ll see if it works. Won’t know until spring, it’s way too cold to be opening windows now.

And now I don’t have bearing stick on my workbench any more.

A trip to Salvation Army got rid of some tools that needed to go away.

Attempted to give the angle grinders a home. Pulled the doors off the cabinet and mounted the bent sheet metal Amazon special.

Looking at the prices now I think one would be much better off just running some flat bar/angle iron along than paying $15 per slot. With a DIY solution the angle grinders can sit where ever, as with these holders you can see a handle is crashing into another tool.
Didn't happen in the garage, but beside it in the utility room. Hope that flies with you gentlemen. Today a ladder holder was mounted and an old hook hanging on by the skin of its teeth was removed.

I really like the design of the ladder holder as it's just one piece of sheet metal bent into a useful shape.
Unfortunately the stud is within the swing zone of the door. Was really hoping there would be a stud closer to the outside corner but alas no amount of stud sensor action/magnet on a string/knocking on the wall could make one appear.

Looks like there's plenty of room, would a bolt with a nylock work?

Working on the Queen City grinder. It's wired for high voltage and I need low voltage. It will need new heaters also.

It's been a long time since I've worked with one but that might be an Allen Bradley 709 with type N heaters. If the type N are not available, usually these can be converted to type W which are readily available.

I would also look to see if it's rated for the HP at then lower voltage.

Has "N17" in it and I need N25 for 240V @ 5.97 amps.

Made 2 covers for the drill press base. Made from stuff around the shop, so no real money invested. Scrap plate aluminum, magnets, hardware and handles from screw drivers that were collecting dust. I looked for something more low profile, but couldn't come up with something that had any character/ personality.

I don't have a preference yet. Magnets hold it in place way better than imagined.

It was ignition tune-up day on the Vanagaru engine.

I think it will make a difference:

#4 plug wire. How the hell did I do 75 on the Interstate and pull 65 up a steep grade on three cylinders?

Coil pack contacts were badly corroded and the center electrodes of the plugs were nearly down to the ceramic, so even those three weren't doing all that well. I can't wait to take it for a spin now!

Back to waiting for the transaxle to come back from the shop....

Painted a few cabinet backs, shelves and drawer fronts today.

@KamiCrit - My solution was to use the Gladiator track and hooks for my ladders. Easily spans studs and allows adjustments.

@manwithtools - Nifty drying rack for the parts.

Some ******* thought he could do a silver paint job on a model after not building one in many many years...

There's a few runs. I'll need to do some sanding tomorrow and give it one last coat. Then put some clear on it.

...looks good! What is the contraption holding the body? I need one of those for my future model building.....

You have lots of patience. (y)
-------------

In the garage shop two days ago:

I had spare time from my unusually-busy retired work schedule to weld together a somewhat-looking?? silhouette of a '66 Impala(36'' long). This is my first try at a silhouette project, so it may not look exact.
I flung flat-black paint on it and called it good'nuf to hang in my home office. ;)

Looking good. I admire your work.

I like the '64 Ford full-size 2-dr about as-much as the '65 Bel-Air/Impala

I once owned for probably 15 years (and it was 14 years old when I bought it from one of my fire/rescue co-workers, and a first model year), a 1st generation Econoline pick-up like the one in the back, but mine was a single window instead of the 3 rear windows model here. It had a 170 cu.in. & three on the tree, and nearly every time I drove it, someone either wanted to buy it or wanted to know "did you make that?" :lol2:

Several hours of creche parts painting. A few hours in, I noticed I was getting cold and discovered the metal shop garage door was mysteriously open. Closed that. Recycled my paints. Washed up the brushes and pallettes.

Since lightburn dropped Linux support, I installed lightburn on WinBoat. It's a sort of VM environment for Linux machines. It was a drawn out experience, but after all the foolishness, it works.

Some of the 4 bazillion creche parts. It's amazing how much detail I put in those things, and what a ***** they are to paint. Assemble tomorrow.

Continuing the basement shop cleanup, I made a bigger mess for a while.

Back to the project of adding soft closers to the kitchen drawers. I got five more drawers done. I had to make a spacer for one of them, which took the bandsaw to resaw a scrap of 1x3 to be a bit narrower, and the belt sander to clean up the cut side. Another one required a minor modification to the drawer slide.

Between these two, I finally figured out how I’m going to do he last two drawers, but that needs the tablesaw. It’s 19F out, so that’s going to have to wait, supposed to be near 50F on Tuesday.

Cleaned up and put the tools away.
