Has anyone here had any experience dealing with OnlineMetals.com?

It's hard to find good pricing in Alberta Canada for locally available, small quantity, stainless steel. I deal with Metal Supermarket, and they have what I want, however their pricing is outrageous.

Doing a price comparison between Online Metals and Metal Supermarket I can pick up the same metal, and have it shipped to my door, for 45% less using OnlineMetals.com

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say?

Thanks!

Gord

I've had nothing but good experiences with them...they carry a wide variety of stuff, and you can order small quantities, which is really handy for the stuff I use (like making spacers for use on my project car's suspension, etc). They've always shipped fast, and to me, the prices are very reasonable - the cuts have also been exactly what I asked for.

Thanks MeentSS02 and Jason. I'll put a small order in and see how they do shipping it across the border. I appreciate the input.

Reasonable, and based solely on wieght. That said, UPS fees have gone sky high lately. I by aluminum from them, while I make my steel purchases locally.

They do good - Ive ordered from them lots over the last ten years - if I can't justify buying a full piece from my local metal supplier...then I'll get it from them -

Definitley let us know how it works. I see on their site they have a deal with UPS and show much reduced duty rates. If that is the case it could be a great deal as usually UPS rapes us (Canadians) on duty for anything coming up from the U.S.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I placed an order this morning. I admit I was very nervous about using UPS, I have had nothing but bad experiences with them. After reading the positive information OnlineMetal has to say when it comes to shipping, I am willing to give it a chance.

I let you know how they do shipping to Canada once I recieve my order.

Thanks! Their little comparison chart goes to show just how much UPS usually screws us on brokarage if a company doesn't negotiate a better rate with them.

Nice to see some U.S. companies finally realizing that it happens and doing something to change it. I am like you I will not order from a company if they only use UPS to ship unless they are the only choice I have.

I ordered some titanium sheet, and a few piece of thick aluminum angle. Found out this place was about 15 mins from me. Went and picked up what I needed, they cut it for me on the spot. I would def shop there again.

So this is an update from my original post.

I put in an order for two 7 foot lengths of 304 stainles steel hex rod. I put the order in on November 4th. On November 5th I revceived an email stating there was no stock but that it would be shipped when they recieved inventory. I emailed on November 8th requesting an ETA. They responded to my email very quickly and stated that they should recieve stock on November 9th (the next day). On November 9th I recieved confirmation that the order was shipped. On the morning of November 12th the metal was recieved.

I would have to say I am very pleased with the whole transaction. I was nervous about shipping with UPS but when the metal was delivered there were no extra costs. The exchange rate was great, the metal and shipping costs were $98.29 USD and I was billed $101.29 on my Visa.

The service was great, the shipping was fanatastic, and the product is exactly what I ordered.

I will be using them again.

Thanks everyone for your input.
